Hi all, I'm thinking about buying a used cayman s 987 gen 2 from a used car dealer with 10 months porsche warranty left on it. Do you think it is worth getting an independent inspection on the car or the fact it is a pre approved porsche just 13 or so months ago it should be ok?
Also, anything I should look out for?
All words of wisdom greatfully received!
Thanks!

I've just got purchased one, great car. Yes get an inspection, depending on the dealer. A reputable independent should bring some peace of mind, Over revs would be the best thing to check as a bad report could invalidate the warranty. Speaking of which, there is a technicality in the warranty where a dealer between two private owners means it could be invalidated (if porsche find out) . soR's are ok, and if you don't believe me ring porsche and check. Could lead to negotiating room if they have put it at risk.

Now, check your spec carefully. Things olike phone and universal audio interface don't come standard and can cost quite a bit to retrofit. I've also experienced coolant loss in mine and its only on 23k so it's in for work soon on the warranty. Just make sure it has all the bits that are important to you.

Otherwise good luck, I'm sure you'll love it when you get it.

As above have an inspection done because even consumables such as brakes, tyres etc, can add up to a sizeable amount.

Unless the car is on SOR, you won't be able to transfer the warranty into your name for 3 months and that's only after having a 110 point inspection and a service carried out by an OPC.

Thanks for the input guys. Dealer said he gets all his cars through BMW trade-ins. Would this affect the warranty?

Is the porsche warranty only valid when sold directly between private seller and buyer? I'm a little confused about the warranty now.

Due to hear from the dealer today about what he will offer for my a current car. Just might put a deposit down pending a positive inspection and understanding of the warranty.

The Porsche warranty is only valid immediately after purchase if the car is sold either by an OPC or between private parties. Purchasing from a non-official Porsche dealer will invoke the 3 month rule.

Yes the official porsche warranty is only transferable between individuals.

Purchasing a porsche from a non franchise dealer = no warranty

Thanks for replies. Real shame, doesn't appeal so much now as the thought of having porsche warranty till 2016 was a real selling point for me.

If its any consolation, the Gen 2 is much less problematic than the Gen 1 and although its still likely to suffer from premature failure of the battery, radiators, condensors and water pump, the wallet-crushing problems associated with the Gen 1 are no longer an issue.

If the car ticks all the boxes, you can put the warranty on it after 3 months of ownership anyway.

Yes but a new engine is still almost £20,000, and st does happen.

For £660 a year the warranty is good value in my opinion.

Hmm, lots to think about for me. I would much prefer a porsche warranty to nothing. I need to speak to the dealer, although I think the deal so far has been pretty good but I don't know if the dealer understands the warranty won't stand or be passed on.
An independent check through Peter Morgan is a must I think.

Ask the dealer to submit the car to an OPC for the 111 point check and if it fails they pay for any repairs, if it passes buy it and put your own warranty on it.

As the others on here say discuss it with the dealer. Gen II engines are far more robust than the M96/7 engines. If the warranty is transferable then go for it. My Boxster puts a smile on my face ever time I hear that flat six wake up. Then you drive it😀

Spent nearly 2 hours going over the car on Saturday morning - and it's fantastic. Managed a decent test drive too, all seemed well other than a squeak from the brakes at low speed, dealer said he would have this sorted along with some other minor issues.

All going well I'm sure to pick it up next Friday afternoon, I can't wait!
