After running a 458 Italia it is not just me who found it nowhere near as involving as a 991 GT3. And at say £160k the car will be twice as old. Hugely more expensive depreciation wise as well.....which can take the shine off F ownership very rapidly. Nice car though.
If you read all the 'quality' tests between the GT3 and Speciale, most conclude they were very evenly matched....mind you, the GT3 has always tended to bat well above its weight as you know full well. Quite remarkable for a car costing half as much to be pitched against the mighty F in the first place. Be interesting to see what the RS can do to the F.....could well be a forgone conclusion......
The GT4 and Turbo S are great cars but apples and pears to the GT3.
If you think a 991 GT3 sits at £120k you would be outbid by £25k immediately......and that's by the trade!!!!

You also think a GT4 will take £25k over list !
I'll sell my slot tomorrow for £25k and let buyer choose spec.
That would fund 2 years 458 use.
I am not sue how much down the line a normal 458 is over the speciale , as I have only driven the latter.
But I,ll take the risk for £25k overs :-)

A speciale is on another level again IMO, but a £135k 458 would be most people choice in the 2nd hand market vs a 991 GT3. At £160k.
A Speciale is more the car to go head to head vs a 991 RS. And I would still take the Ferrari.
Or buy a GT4 for £70k and put £90k off your mortgage. Or get a 997.2 turbo S with the £90k and still have change !
People are a bet screwed in the head to think some of these values are great value !
I don't see any more worth than £120k for a 991 GT3 but that's only imo.

Just wait for the first OPC car to appear.I'll sell my slot tomorrow for £25k and let buyer choose spec.

Seems bizarre that as a self confessed 'old school luddite beard' you openly knock the 991 GT3 yet clamour for the even more digital and tech heavy 458 which is widely regarded as having less grip, poorer turn in, gearbox and steering, synthetic exhaust noise etc etc. Maybe its the delusions of grandeur offered by the Ferrari club that appeals......
One has to have owned a Ferrari, just liked every F1 driver wants to drive for Ferrari.
as for it has poorer every thing, I am not so sure on that one esp steering and turn in.
I have only driven it for about 20 miles but I was quite amazed by it, where I think the 991 is a bit meh, but then 1st impressions don't count for that much.
to quote evo
"I really wish the steering wasn’t quite so immediate, as it turns the nose in so hard you feel the tail get a little edgy in an effort to keep up."
and watching the 5th gear vid with harris , only one car to own in my eyes
every single review of the 458, be it Tiff, Harris or any one else has smiles ear to ear in the 458.

Now in the hands of http://www.thboler.com/used-cars/porsche-boxster-b... if anyone is looking to part exchange or finance the car. Great team to deal with.

That is only true if you value it's image or heritage. If that is of no perceived value (it isn't to me) then you would only consider it if it was the best in class by whatever other criteria you choose. The same is true of any brand.

458 does also seem best in class.
I haven't driven one - but, from what I have read, might accept that as a working hypothesis - but I don't regard a manual gearbox as fundamental to my driving enjoyment. On the other hand you have nailed your colours to the mast regarding auto boxes. So you, if you are consistent, must surely discount it on gearbox grounds alone.
