What's the spec and colour of your car ?

My mistake if you have never offered it on pcgb or any where.
Some people are so secret about what they own, it's hard to keep track who's car is for sale.

No need to call me an idiot though is there ?
I doubt you will post a pic and spec of your car though.

There's no secret about my car!

Here's a picture of it:

Just had new Michelin Pilot Super Sports fitted ready for summer!

It's got PDK and sports seats, which aren't to everybody's taste - but I chose them, as I had plenty of choice when I bought mine (before they were popular!).

The buckets were nice, but too high for me, as I'm quite tall and the 987 is snug enough as it is. PDK took me a long time to bond with (a few months), but now I love it. My daily is 'manuel', so I don't feel like I'm missing out!

Idiot - someone who acts in a self-defeating or significantly counterproductive way. You've got a lot to say, a lot of it is good, but you spoil it by saying things that wind people up. If you take this in the way it's intended, then you might not get so many 'bites' from people - but perhaps that's how you like it? ;-)

Looks like 911Virgin have a car with the right spec. Manual, buckets, spyder alloys, PSE. Low mileage too! In your shoes, I'd take that one!
+1

If I was OP I'd be making friends with the crew at 911V pronto, that car looks pukka.

An honest apology would go a long way.

I also find your posts interesting, and then you go and spoil yourself ...

It's certainly true that PDKs hang about, there where quite a few at dealers when I was looking that had been for sale for while, whilst I wanted a manual and had to move quick whenever they came up for sale.
So were you waiting for somebody to wave the flag for PDK ?? smile

On the numbers platform the manuals New are outnumbered, and I drove both at Silverstone before I made my decision.

And I'm a racer at heart ... and in my dreams smile

PDK gives me more time to think about how the car is moving ... mind space becomes more important with time !!

Looks cool. good or bad I just am passionate driver/car freak, had my Spyder 3 years + now. bought at bottom of market so all good.
got a few more track days coming up, one with EVO and one at Donny, just like driving it. PSS are great, I have moved to cup 2's now, but still have PSS on my R, amazing tyres.

Mine is coming up to 3 years, no plans to sell it. I don't do track days, but do take it to France regularly, where the roads are perfect. Thought about Cup 2s, but sometimes it rains a lot in France, even in summer!

This is undoubtedly true, so are many of us - I'd definitely include myself as a passionate driver / car freak. I appreciate a lot of your posts but you're often way too aggressive in your overall tone but as Homerdog said - maybe that's what you like? :thumb up:

Nope I drove a PDK Cayman GTS at Silverstone and Boxster and whilst I think the PDK is very good at what it does, for a high days car I didn't want it as I missed working the manual.

The number sold new has little bearing on popularity because a huge proportion of Cayman R were specced by the dealer and they loved to push the PDK - that's a well know fact.

I've got no issues with PDK at all, and have no issues with anybody preferring it, and think it's an incredible invention, but I'm old school and the manual gearbox on the Cayman is one of the best I've experienced in terms of feel and mechanical interaction so for me it's part of the cars appeal.

I'm just providing my observations from having sat and watched the Cayman R market for months and months before actually buying one and that's what I noticed, PDK hung about longer.

Matty if you're still looking for a car, PM me. I know of a Meteor Grey one coming up for sale soon (sounds lovely).

What are people's thoughts on 987 Cayman R vs 981 Cayman GTS? I know these two are still somewhat far apart value-wise today, but it surely won't be long before this choice becomes more of a financial reality?

For what its worth, I never thought I would go PDK, test drove one and with so many options with PDK I was very happy to buy it. Each to their own and most PDK with a decent spec will sell, when its time to sell.

Own an R and have had a proper go in a Cayman GTS. I really liked the GTS, it's a lovely car and it's a marked step-up on both the base Cayman and the Cayman S. However, it would need quite a lot of additional spec to turn it into an R and I don't think it's as good as the R even after you've added the spec you'd want.

The R is really a very, very good car and , HPAS, traditional handbrake, an honest engine noise and a passive sports suspension makes it all the better. It's surprising how capable it is.

Interesting stuff chaps - sounds like the consensus is the R is the purer (analogue) steer vs the GTS then. Maybe you'd have to step up to a GT4 to make the 981 vs 987 Cayman comparison properly even? I'm sure we'll see a head-to-head in the Porsche press soon enough!

Personally I much prefer the 981's more 'grown up' styling, so I'd probably be prepared to trade that off against the ultimate dynamic purity of the R - but I have to say it remains a tricky choice!

It was the synthetic engine/exhaust noise that didn't help on the GTS IMO - a bit like being in Grand Turismo

Yes the 981 does look very nice. But the 987 feels quite diminutive and it's ultimately better to drive.
