Noob with Cayman S
Discussion
Just picked up today from BubblesNW on here
Having set off on a search for an R I was getting nervous about pricing and as a Lotus dealer the old instinct was nagging away thinking prices were a bit high at 45k ish. Anyway a well timed email from Darren and it threw a big spanner in the works with a Cayman S PDK with the following spec:
LSD (priority for me)
Carbon Brakes
Active suspension (retrospectively realise how good this is)
Switchable exhaust
Buckets
Spider Wheels
So basically a Lux R (Flamesuit at the ready!)
First impressions very very good. I have a little test route I take cars on as I'm always benchmarking stock I get in just to make sure my Elise is the right one to be hanging onto and it performed incredibly well on a mix of A road and challenging B roads. The tighter suspension settings are a bit harsh for road use so the ability to retain the sport modes and return the dampers to road mode is much welcomed. LSD is well balanced not aggressive like it can be in M cars. Nice noise, decent pace, good ride. Cant fault it.
Looking forward to getting some more miles done unfortunately work commitments mean its no parked up for a few days.

Your experience matches my own.Quite a few Lotus owners I know like to say, "981 may be mid-engined but the handling can't touch a Lotus". I found the car to be the closest thing to a Lotus in terms of handling that I've ever driven, accompanied by the benefits of being engineered and built for global volume sales. Brilliant cars.
Enjoy!
Nothing much comes anywhere near Lotus cars for B road and track driving. I've been bored by some impressive cars through the years I can tell you but this ones doing better than most at this point!
Oddly the nearest thing to a Lotus with 4 seats? Mazda RX8. Maybe an R26.R Megane (cheating due to lack of rear seats)

Ha! I knew someone would spot it straight away! No we have some stocking finance on it at the moment for my business so as part of the audit procedure I have to have a live advert up. If someone wanted it for that they could have it but otherwise the ad will be cleared as soon as our next big unit moves!
Very nice mate, just sold mine this afternoon!
Get Michelin Super Sports on it asap if you haven't already.
Way better than anything else this side of Cups.
I'd also get the geo checked/sorted as well if I was taking over a new car. Even from the factory they can be a bit shonky and being a little more aggressive over the standard set up can transform the car.

Previous owner had the geo done recently
Whats this solenoid then? I guess this will save having to switch the exhaust button on every time I get in the car?
Not only do you not have to press the button but it means the exhaust bypass valve are always open. Even at the low rpm where its restricted. You notice on start up the valves are open and you get a nice thrum, then the valves close until you go past 3k rpm from memory. I wish I still had mine just thinking about it Whats this solenoid then? I guess this will save having to switch the exhaust button on every time I get in the car?
