I collected a Mercedes a number of years ago from Germany. Had a great trip through France before heading home.

Mercedes paid for flights and four star hotels, as well as a week's insurance. Shame the car was crap.

Does anyone know if this is an option for GT4 / Spyder buyers?

Typically, how much does it cost? Is there a reduction from RRP for collecting your car?

Is anyone planning to collect theirs?

Cheers

You're hopeful! Factory collection has (at times) been an option - but Porsche CHARGE for the option - a couple of grand was mentioned in a previous post... If you search the forum you might find more up-to-date info and what your extra might include.

I did the Porsche one in 1998, I seem to remember it was in lieu of the delivery charge, don't remember paying extra for it but could be wrong.
Business class flight and priority Eurotunnel, a bunch of Deutschmarks for the taxis to the Stuttgart hotel then the factory, and a meal/wine voucher for the hotel.
Had to carry my own UK number plates with me, really enjoyed the experience, my first new car.

Just been reading the book I was sent about the Spyder.

Factory collection is listed (Page 51). If you want to collect from Zuffenhausen the option code is 900 or S9Y for Leipzig, which, the book says, includes 'dynamic driving instruction'. I'm guessing the pickup point depends on where they are/will be built

Small detail BUT not available in the winter months (presume tyre regs issue?).

Hmmm - where does it say that? I have a stuggart factory collection specified on my GT4 order which a production date of Oct, but this may or may not slip to Jan subject to the LWB seat delay at the time. At no point have I been told there will be a problem if it slips to winter, but I am aware of the potential issue with the tyres.

That said as far as I am aware it is not illegal to drive in Germany in winter with summer tyres, just in "wintery conditions" so as long as its a nice day and not freezing/snowing it should be OK?

By law it seems fine to use standard tyres in winter BUT the bizarre law states you become instantly illegal if the weather turns wintry and you can be fined. My understanding from local OPC was that they stop collections for overseas customers in the winter. A call to the Porsche factory seems to illicit a quick and helpful answer. Hope they are helpful as they can be.

I have just called and checkrf with my OPC and he has confirmed that factory collections are available all year round (I am obviously a non German customer collecting a RHD car), including winter so P11 will not cause me a problem - other than if it is "wintery" on the day of collection I may not be able to drive it. Im sure its a problem I can work around at the end of the day. Lets hope P11 delays go away by then and the problem is removed.

Fingers crossed all goes well!! I was prevented from collecting mine as I live in Guernsey and was purchasing my BGTS VAT free through a UK OPC.

Cracking cars!

Do you mind saying how much is the factory collection?
Just wanted to check before trying to add to my Spyder spec.

I'm doing factory collection of my BGTS from Stuttgart this time next week. It's only just been re-introduced (wasn't an option when I ordered the car initially in Jan). Cost is £600 to the dealer, and ~£1,000 to the travel agent organizing it (I was led to believe) - although rather worryingly I haven't had any comms from the agent yet despite us presumably travelling on Sunday....

I received paperwork from Porsche that said factory collection was not possible in August as the factory was shut down (presumably holidays) and that (from memory) you could only collect from April onwards. The sales exec had to check with HQ I think to confirm this - it may be different for your vehicle but I'd double check if I was you. It all seems quite new and not yet properly up and running.

Will do thumbup

As an aside, also useful to know for anyone considering it: the car is collected on temp plates (ZO plates?) which are only valid for 9 days i.e. you have to be back in blighty to give the car to the OPC to register it in the UK within that time. We were originally planning a 2 week road trip in it before we found out so had to amend our plans

Fair enough, I did double check but Im not sure if they actually phoned the factory to double check themselves. Clearly there is 0% chance of me collecting in Aug, but your comments on "from April" does imply a winter embargo. Ill be speaking with him later this week again so will triple check.

Yeah, best to I reckon. Everyone seems to get slightly different answers. One gets the impression that their process isn't as mature as you'd like / expect and that dealers here are a little in the dark.

On a positive note, I did speak to the travel agent today organising transport etc. was v helpful and everything is now basically booked. There's no fixed price as such, they just give you options of flights/hotels, let you choose, then presumably just charge some commission in too. Flights to Stuttgart on Sunday, transfers to hotel, 1 night in 5 star hotel, transfers to factory and return flexi euro tunnel ticket came to about £800 (so total of £1400 for factory collection) for 2 of us which I think is fairly reasonable given the short notice and the fact I didn't have to do any of the leg work

I collected my Red 997 GT3 on 9/11 ( Nov ) 2007 at Zuffenhausen. It added about £1600 to the car. INcluded a flight on a German Wings BAC 1-11 which was not business class but we were well treated ( includes 2x flights). DInner and B& B in the Marintime Hotel, collection from STR Airport and delivery next am to factory. Tour , delivery and hand over and lunch. Euro tunnel next day to Dove.

Possible problems, your scheduled build day is not as planned but you've booked flights etc. And this does happen, IMHO this is the reason that Porsche do not make it easy for you.
