I am a bit bias but being no 1 on list at opc for a 981 Spyder I would choose the 987 Spyder any day of the week! But i am getting a Gt4. Would I change a CR for a 981 Spyder thats a tough one because same same but different! Are you a coupe or cab type of person! Coupe stick with what you have unless offered G4

Yes I'm thinking about doing that too! Although that's a definite wind up for the Mrs, I'd have to say.
If you're in Surrey/Hants then I can save you the grief and you can park it in my garage and I will look after the keys for you.
Yes I can imagine getting a lot of offers of this nature wink

Have no fear Slippy. My man maths is in perfect working order, there's no way I'd tell the Mrs that we'll never get the money back on mods (I'm not completely insane). Holiday is already agreed - if I get the car it's business class return to Mauritius in Decemberyikes

ETA - might get a central orange stripe too! Although it might be a little too chavtastic!!
Sounds a fair deal to me smile
It might sound fair but it means spending an enormous amount of cash. An unplanned car expense (of about £70k) and Christ knows how much on airline tickets and hotel or holiday home - ouch!!!

It's a really tough call, glad I have some time to think about it! My car is great fun on track days and really suits my needs. I'm not really a huge fan of convertibles per se but I've always enjoyed every convertible I have owned from MGB to Mazda MX5 to Mini JCW to BMW 125i - they have all been fun in their own way and the ones that sounded good were even more enjoyable. The Boxster Spyder appeals because it sounds awesome but also looks stunning! I think it will be a great ownership experience but I'm still not sure that it's wise to get rid of the CR. It's spec is absolutely spot on for me, I have to say and with mods, it will be even more incredible.

i like to think of these type of cars as "roadsters" a roadster is a car designed to be of a sporting nature with no roof originally as the design brief, so i think s2k, z4m, TVR griff etc, i think of "convertibles" as a vehicle to remove the roof and cruise around, usually cars that were never intended to be a roadster in the original deign brief of the car.. The spyder will be perfect for you needs and i feel the game has moved on enough that you won't feel the urge to even mod it ( maybe some suspension tweeks).

You're right there about holiday cost, I just did this trip last month. Emirates about 5k+ for 2, same again+ for the rest at somewhere like this : http://www.oberoihotels.com/hotels-in-mauritius/. Highly recommended place though for total chill out. GT3 profit more than paid for it though so didn't feel quite so bad.

PS - Would recommend Emirates Business as well, Dubai to Mauritius on the A380, nice seperate bar etc and great service in general.

Agree with the above. I think the R will start to lose value once the GT4s land and a bunch of Rs hit the market in the next 6-12 months. I am prepared for the fanboy flack but it isn't that much over a standard S.

The 987 Spyder and 981 even more so are significantly different to their mainstream models to demand a premium over the long term.

Go for the 981 Spyder, it's a golden ticket and sell the R.

If you don't like the Spyder, sell it in 12 months for more than you paid for it and buy another R for a lot less than you sold your current one for. No lose situation in my opinion.

Cue Demon giving his opinion as FACT as usual......
I guess a non owner who always said his car was like a R would say this lol

can you give up your R steering for this

review just posted by an owner in the GT4 section.

"Now for the big disappointment. I expected the steering to feel like a slightly muted version of my GT3’s and it was what I had most been looking forward to: the feeling that your brain is hard wired to the road, where you can just think the car around bends and feel every piece of road metal. The GT4 is nothing like that. It has decent feel once the tyres are working really hard but below that it doesn’t talk to you and it doesn’t even feel razor sharp."

I see what you mean - I could keep both for a while I guess? Spyder should hold its value pretty well, so should be able to get out of it with very little cost?

After much deliberation and umm-ing and ah-ing, I'm going to keep the CR and mod it. It was a tough decision and there are a lot of reasons why I'm still not sure if it's the right thing to do but I've wanted to mod the CR to my idea of perfection for a long time and I do want to see it through.

Also, I've driven a 981 Cayman GTS which has the X73 suspension and although I quite liked it, I thought that the CR's set-up was better.

If it was the choice of a GT4 over mine, then I think it would have been a tougher decision, but with the money I'd need to put down for the deposit I can do a lot to my car and the overall cost to change would allow me to get everything done! So think I'll keep the CR for a while longer!

you should try my Spyder for ideas before you start then.

you might change your mind on parts you want to buy/ or the order.

to do every thing right imo is £18k, how far do you want to take it ?

I'd been thinking about spending £20k but over time rather than all in one hit.

Currently I'm thinking RSS kit, semi-solid engine and transmission mounts, full exhaust system (Capristo or Cargraphics), I'm worried about the noise though for track days! IPD plenum, GT3 throttle body, Brembo braking system and something to improve gearshift feel. Seen a housing that fits under the transmission tunnel, so keeps OEM look and maybe cup cables too. Might get a lightweight battery if there's any change. Would love to try your Spyder, it sounds like an absolute weapon!

I spent about £8k but don't have a brake issue, but you would then see what 6 pots would bring to you, (amazing)
I cannot afford more as the GT4 needs funding. but it would give you some idea what camber and brakes bring, and how 300lb/ft feels like.
