It'll provide a lot of shove. But it will be precisely the opposite of exciting.
Apparently Porsche's previous 4-pot turbo in the 944 was quite well regarded.
A 944 with a six would have been much more special IMO. The 944 turbo engine is pretty good for an early 4 pot turbo, but the noise is very disappointing. I prefer the 3.0 16V, n/a is better, but it's still a 4, so not tuneful. Compare the E36 M3 motor for example, or any Porsche 6 cyl.

But all this talk is about IL 4s not flat ones which (to my ears at least) generally sound a lot more interesting.

I agree with this, but would still want a drive in the thing to confirm my worst fears, however I am sure that Porsche will try their best to make a silk purse out of a sows ear !

Moosey, if you were around when Porsche went from the 356 to 911, or long-hood to IB, or IB to 964, or 964 to 993, or 993 to 996 etc. you'll know that Porsche forumistas like nothing more than to proclaim the superiority of an older car over the latest one.

Mainly because many of these forumistas can't don't want to afford the newer one.

By contrast Mr D on the 2.7 PDK thread is extolling the virtues of a Fiesta ST3 (an IL4 turbo!) over a the "boring" 2.7 981.

You can't please all of the people all of the time....

Good man.

OPC salesman today said 'I am not that surprised' today when I said I had no interest at all in the 991.2 so would have to get a nearly new 991 instead.

I get the impression that (of the small percentage of people with any idea about cars), the facelift of this generation of Porsches is seen as a huge step into mediocrity for the brand.
