I have a recent thread about specification for a Boxster S, but with this query thought a new thread best.

I have paid initial deposit on a Boxster S and lockdown is Friday (two days away). As my spec was quite high it was suggested I try and get a GTS, a play on the configurator shows I would only have to pay £2k more, but my OPC can't get a GTS. However, I enquires at another OPC and explained the situation to them and to my surprise can offer me a November build on a BGTS!

My question here is about the differences between the S and GTS, I know the spec differences, but haven't driven or been in one. How different is the refinement between the two - assuming PSE and PASM is fitted to the S? In normal mode is the GTS similar to the S in road/exhaust noise? From what I have read it's a bit different with PSE on and revs up, but that's fine - in fact great!

I'm keen to know this as a fair bit of the time we won't be pressing on - just having a pleasant afternoon drive or perhaps cruising on M or A roads and Mrs Gorsh will never forgive me if the exhaust is rowdy all the time - hoping to introduce her to it a bit at a time, gently increasing the revs until she gets used to it!!

its a serious question though, if the normal mode refinement is similar then the GTS option is a no brainer - hope it's still there in the morning when I have agreed to ring back, but I don't want to rush into it and buy a car that is wrong for us.
thanks
Gordon.

GTS is a no brainer against high spec S, as you have been suggested yo look at it.

Plus it keeps the value better.

Hi,

If you have been offered a BGTS allocation for November then you are very lucky. I have tried everything to get one, but nothing available.

I took a long test drive in a BGTS last month, without PSE activated I thought it was quite civilised. Once PSE activated you can really tell a great difference, best of both worlds in your case.

I would take the GTS allocation you have been offered, but if you change your mind please let me know. I would happily fill that space. Been tying for a spot for nearly 2 months.

Regards,
Jay.

Thanks Guys

Can you confirm where I stand having paid my initial (£3k) deposit. I understood I could back out and get a refund until such time as it's locked for build when they will ask for another deposit to make the total deposit 10% of the total cost?

I have been offered a full refund if I cannot get a GTS allocation.
However, if you have been given the allocation for your 'S' I don't know where you will stand.

I have driven 3 BGTS now, everytime I struggle to believe how good it feels.
Have you actually driven one?
There are plenty out on the market to go and have a short blast, you could easily answer all your own doubts.
They are spread evenly across the country too, one will be pretty close to you.

I wouldn't buy anything until I knew what I was putting my money into, unless someone gave me a GT4 slot.
Go and try one, I'm sure you will be mega impressed.

Jay.

Thanks folks

TBH I won't have time to try one before as I would lose this build option. I'm confident the car is brilliant having already driven a S with PDK. Just a slight concern if it's loud all the time or just when the buttons are pressed. Going to read some road tests and hopefully in the meantime a BGTS owner will comment on here.

I didn't find it too loud, especially coming from an RS4 will Milltek system.

If anything there was a little bit of drone at low revs, but nothing major. I would say that the engine noise is slightly louder than the 's' but that is the whole point of the GTS, It is all over a more engaging drive.

Shame you cannot find time to drive one today or tomorrow.

I thought this video gave the best example of the true sound http://youtu.be/gS-QvzbDAqg

I've had a GTS since March. No need to worry, with PSE "Off" the car is quite civilised and quiet. I call it stealth mode, useful for early starts so as not to annoy neighbours! I also use it on long motorway trips, select Normal, PSE automatically goes to quiet mode, the engine becomes a lot less boomy, and let the electronics save fuel with the coasting function in PDK. Once off the motorway press sport, livens everything up, switches on PSE Loud mode and start to have fun! Inside the car it is a slightly different sound to the S, bit more sporty, I believe the sound is piped throughg from the engine, a feature you won't find on the S.

I can't recommend the GTS enough, there are lots of little improvements over the S that add up to make the car significantly better as a package. To my eyes it even looks better, the modified front in particular. This car is my fifth Porsche the last a 997 Carrera S PDK and to me the GTS is yards better than all of them.

GTS has horrid black writing on the back, whereas the S has splendid shiney writing - is a no brainer really?

This is true - can always delete "Boxster GTS" which is what I did, then you've only got PORSCHE in nasty gloss black letters! Looks a lot less cluttered too :-)

I like the black lettering - it goes well with my choice of colour Guards Red, in fact if I also go for the GTS exterior paint package it looks even better with all the plastic parts painted gloss black. Looks like it's a YES just waiting impatiently for a call back after salesman has finished with his present customer.

That is exactly right. GTS has a sound symphoser that basically is a pipe into the cabin which is connected to the air intake manifold. The reason why you in the Cayman you can hear a lot of crackles from the inside (what an amasing sound, really, it is not like the crackles coming from the tailpipes, but more quieter).

I like the black writing on the GTS.

As the black horse and Ferrari logo on some special Ferraris, it gives a very special and racing look.

Love the black GTS logo, the ultimate Boxster and I'd be willing to bet, very sought after in future years.Spotted a German plated example giving it the full beans on the autobahn near Stuttgart recently, sounded truly epic!!

Thanks everyone - order is placed, deposit paid and signed order form received. November build, will lock it in a few days time then should get build date allocation - then I will know it's really happening! They say it may be the last one they get, nobody seems to know if more will be released for early next year, or even if production will end when new models come out.
