I didn't slate the GT4 at all, in fact I tried to buy one. At list it is a decent buy. My point was that at £105,000 it is not. A 991 Turbo is a monster of a car, and yes I would say some way ahead of a Cayman with fancy suspension. A 991 turbo is a 4wd turbod 3.8 that is in the Cayman does that make it better? It's a shame really that the Pork market has gone nuts, if they would only flog these GT4s at list I would have picked one up and be using it at track days already. I simply refuse to get involved in this ridicules bubble.

and buy and sell prices when you part ex it back are >£15k

MP4 12C was the car I always thought I'd buy. Been thinking about it recently and for circa £120K you can get into one (say 12 plate with 10K miles). And then I started thinking about the potential for further depreciation and the unknown (to me), running costs.
Say what you will, the Porsche is a much safer and predictable place to have your cash, even at £100K - for a brand new one.
People seem outraged at the idea of the £100K Cayman, but compared to a 2 year old GT3 at still circa £40K more it looks the better deal and the only choice if you want a manual.

A 12c is such a different car to the GT4 it's not really a direct choice between the 2 surely? It's a completely different order of performance but also running costs (even if they are nothing like as high as suggested above). A 458 is an alternative to the 12c, not the gt4 (whose main alternative really is the 6/7 gt3 imo).

I'm shocked that PGB allow the dealers to do this. I appreciate they're largely franchises, so have seen an opportunity, but in these cases, they must've ordered the cars into stock with the sole intention of marking the price up £30k+I'm sure they'll tell you they're cancelled orders or cars that have come back from customers, but I can't see that being true this early
It's nothing new, it's happening with GT3 too.
There are no restrictions on second hand cars for OPCs, and ateotd, if someone wants to sell their car I think they would prefer to do it rather than not and let them into the non dealer network. I guess it's a difficult one for them to justify on markup, but that's just what the market is willing to pay and reflects what they have bought it from the customer.
Not sure I get the amazement over the asking prices either. It's very well priced for what it is, it's also very limited and everyone wants one, supply and demand. If you think of it as 'just a Cayman' you are never really going to get over the price. If you see it as essentially a 911 with a lot of GT parts in a Cayman body it makes more sense.

I suspect they will settle around list price forever tbh, but I'm sure there is someone out there will to pay 6 figures to get into one of the first, but that window will quickly close as more hit the streets.graeme4130 said:

It matters not. Once the cars are registered, the owner has the right to sell through an OPC for whatever mark up they desire. Whether the owner is selling for genuine reasons or to make a profit doesn't matter, but is a shame it happens. The OPC's couldn't sell a brand new unregistered (or demo owned by the dealership) for anything above list, so they simply get a mate to put the car in their name! Suspect quite a few of the initial cars we see on the market will use this tactic or have prior agreements with 'preferred' customers, double profits for the dealer, win win!Edited by mdianuk on Saturday 26th September 14:14
