I think Porsche are getting wise to the people who flip
I'm not so sure. Perhaps dealerships view those who flip via their supplying OPC's differently to those who go to Romans though. Otherwise how do you rationalise the earlier observation that almost every OPC has an "unlisted" GT4? They exist to sell cars; it's unreasonable to expect anything different!iantr said:

The whole thing is interesting - I initially through that "flipping" was frowned upon by Porsche , but thinking it through rationally - An OPC would love it if they got to sell a car twice in a matter of weeks and the second time they could do this on bumper commission - so maybe 3 * the profit in real terms. Also if it went to an Indy , Porsche still get to say "look how amazing & desirable our cars are - they trade at twice the price we sell them at - they really must be amazing" So I wonder if the truth is that Porsche love this as if they didn't they'd increase the supply and kill this practice stone dead - which would be nice as we could all just get on with it without this whole dynamic taking over - I may of course be completely wrong about this RSVP911 said:

It may well be that cars like the GT4 are sold at a loss (once all of the marginal development/testing etc is accounted for). Recovering those costs would require much higher volumes, which would in turn require more investment in more highly automated tooling and production facilities. A step-change in costs like this would require a similar step change in sales - which maybe just isn't possible given the addressable marketplace. If production realities at market volume mean that each unit is loss-making, then making fewer units limits the overall loss. As long as the "halo" effect has a marketing value in excess of these losses it's a valid strategy. I think Porsche are nothing if not expert marketeers and have learned to play this game exceptionally well over the years.
Who's to stop this practise? What we must remember is that the dealerships certainly won't, after all, they are the ones that profit the most from this; and as for Porsche GB, well lets face it, they have absolutely zero power anyway, and in most instances, know less than the dealership of what goes on - remember, Porsche GB don't issue allocations, they find out the same way as each individual dealership does, from Porsche fleet management. Ultimately Porsche GB find everything out when Porsche Reading do.

Christ has anybody (apart from me) bought one to actually thrash the pants off it and enjoy it?
We should form an elite group of actual users. Off to France in mine on Sat to run it in and hoping to get out on Thursday at Donington, its a general test day but its got a cage and I have a race licence. Happy days.
Trying too,the weather has not been conducive to giving it a thrash .We should form an elite group of actual users. Off to France in mine on Sat to run it in and hoping to get out on Thursday at Donington, its a general test day but its got a cage and I have a race licence. Happy days.

Dude the gearings to long to be able to thrash the pants off of it and people are scared of running the engine in encase it harms the resale value. We should form an elite group of actual users. FFS you should know this by now.
I suppose the only plus side to engines not being run in is that they share the same standard boggo engine in the 991 so any faults known, will show up on there
Heard this am that mine has finished build and will be at dealer December 4 th . I have bought it to drive and not to flip . Will be delighted when all the noise settles down and those that really want to own such an outstanding car can get on and drive them . Understand Pistonheads will shortly announce track day at Goodwood December 12 th ....... Might be first outing .
Just read Autocar's 'Handling Day'. They put the GT4 number 4 behind the 488 GTB (winner, no McLaren in the test), the GT3 RS, and the Ariel Nomad.
So what sort of use do you think favours the GT4 over the GT3, and vice versa? (I have not read ECOTY which I gather had GT4, 675 LT, GT3 as 1-2-3).

Ha bks! 2000miles in 3 days and now bouncing off the limiter whenever possible. gearing not an issue where I live. Cup 2's are very good in the wet but still let go with a bang when they go.
FFS why wont you think o the resale value and how it will affect the market when you come to sell.8 for sale now and still hanging around, arse has fallen out
Hi Folks, Apologies if this one has already been spotted & mentioned:
http://www.jzmporsche.com/porsche-for-sale/cayman/... Someone's just paid circa £40k over list (spec from what I can tell is not particularly high). Ouch!

I'm dubious that much has been spent for the spec, but you never know. There are 9 GT4's for sale on here now, some have been there a while. I assume the Wilmslow one sold, rather than being withdrawn? 960Spyder?http://www.jzmporsche.com/porsche-for-sale/cayman/... Can't buy a GT4. Boxster Spyder (370hp) might be the better car anyhow, and its 30k cheaper!!
Don't know about 30k cheaper??http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C683297
