Coming back to the ex GF analogy, I suspect that covering 4-5k miles in 5.5 months she was very well and frequently used over that short period of time and driven enthusiastically...
We all know what type of girlfriend she was - which might be the appeal of getting back there once again
Haha, absolutely and it was still tight when I let it go! Luckily it didn't get the stage where it felt like I was throwing a hotdog down the high street! We all know what type of girlfriend she was - which might be the appeal of getting back there once again

Of course the GT3 is/will be a better car, but will it actually be any more enjoyable to use on the road?
Can someone explain how the new GT3 with manual will relate to the 911R, and what that will do to 911R desirability and values?
The GT3 won't necessarily be a 'better' road car....just different. Subjectively a GT4 and PDK S GT3 could well be the only 2 cars you would ever need. Can someone explain how the new GT3 with manual will relate to the 911R, and what that will do to 911R desirability and values?
Also depends on what kind of driving roads we are talking about notwithstanding the obvious national speed limits. But there are undoubtedly more opportunities to get anywhere near the huge capabilities of the rewarding driving limits offered by both the GT4 and GT3 on 'northern' roads. Thats why most quality road tests head north of course....better scenery and better beer too!
Regarding the 911R I see these as taking a relative fall from grace following the introduction of the new GT3. Imo the winged GT3 looks better. Better higher revving engine. Same 'manuel' box too.
But clearly the R has more rarity factor on its side....essential for overs...and essential for collectors which is unfortunately where most will end up.
But even so in the short term at least the c £430k auction price recently achieved could well look too expensive very soon.

I agree with your logic on the 991R but recent prices being asked for a 997 Sports Classic (£395k) with only 8k miles at OPC Sheffield leads me to believe that 991R prices will remain stratospheric forever. Also depends on what kind of driving roads we are talking about notwithstanding the obvious national speed limits. I think you're right. It seems to me that cars like the 911R create a sort of owners club. The members of the club have such assets that they're unlikely to get involved in any panic selling. If anything cars will pass to others that are capable of joining the club. A sort of high end pyramid car club so to speak. boxsey said:

I wonder how many of them will ever be driven "in anger".The answer I anticipate makes me sad...

What a way to blow nearly £400k! Be interesting to know if any have actually been sold at anywhere near that figure.Truly insane price.
Can't honestly see them at half that figure!

But the market always has 'rewarded' or values low mileages on any car. Always will. Bizarre if it didn't. Mileage equals depreciation. Not rocket science. No one in their right mind would pay the same for a 5000 mile car as a 500 mile car, especially an expensive relatively rare one such as the R.As an example, at the end of the spectrum, take the humble Astra. Totally different car, different price but the principle is the same.
2 year old Astra 165 Elite. Cap clean 3k miles £9575. 13k miles £9075. 23k miles £8550.
So roughly £50 per thousand miles depreciation. £500 difference for 10k miles.
So quite a percentage difference considering the cars value. Entirely down to usage.
Its all relative.
Movement continues, Colchester and Reading cars removed (sold?); Tonbridge and Tewkesbury cars added.

No - just in the UK. It is amazing that given the manual gearbox ratios have been so widely critised that an alternative is so low profile.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULIuS_wO6o0&fe...

mdianuk: I just wanted to say that Ive been following the Sale and Sold update for a while now. Top Job
And indeed, the whole thread is a great source of info
Im a bit of a (positive vibe) lurker...so much so that I "might" be one of those that really tried to be content with a CGTS but got drawn to a GT4 (despite the overs)...
I drove the yellow preprod car at PEC and really really wanted to come away saying..."ah Yes the CGTS is 90% of a GT4 and thats all I need" etc etc....but.....the major imprint that the GT4 left was the steering "feeeeeel".. I realy didnt want to like it so much, but it made the CGTS feel wooden and disconnected in comparison (recognising that the B/CGTS are great cars.
I had 2 718 manuals as courtesy cars and that was the slippery slope back to a manual...
The Man Maths from a (PDK) CGTS was relatively easy: 911 engine, proper GT car, great looking front and rear with +ve downforce, GT3 front end(ish), great wheel design, all new rear suspension, GT3 brakes, sportstdesign wing mirrors, big wing, LWBs, manual, LSD etc
BTW, not sure anybody else has done this: I was thinking of reusing my front and rear frunk/boot liners from the CGTS and neither of them fit - a bit surprising...more mods to the BIW than you would think??...
Just to say (not having a pop) that the white Colchester car looks too good to be true because it is...the linky goes to a car with Sports seats and c2500 miles.
Keep up the good work...

Sorry for not trimming. Pistonheads haven't heard that mobile is a 'thing' and it's impossible to scroll select and delete.

I have the trunk and frunk liners for my GT4 and they're a 981 series part so would expect them to fit. Can you post a pic - can confirm if they're the same. I know the 987 series don't.
I drove the Agate Grey car @ Reading on Friday.... and bought it.
Moving up from PDK X73 Cayman GTS to the GT4. Previously owned PDK 997 GTS 2 Coupe.
I had given up on what to replace the Cayman GTS with, because the 981 package is awesome - it's the right size for the UK and practical with its two boots and decent equipment level and comfort as well as class defining driving dynamics.
Shortlisted and driven a number of cars -
McLaren 570s - was thinking about the 570GT - a lot of car, beautiful drive with so much performance but didn't feel it was right for me - super car lairy with the doors and I'm not that rockstar yet.
Mercedes AMG GT S - fast, luxurious, sounds like thunder but the feel through the helm and chassis is disconnected when you're used to Porsche dynamics.
991.2 GTS - lovely car but I think if I was going turbo, I want the big block Turbo, and that the 3.0l turbos are a mid step before the all new platform comes in
I thought I'd finally decided to keep the GTS for longer - had it from new isince 2014, as my daily, but over recent weeks started to become a bit frustrated with it, as I wanted it to feel more special - The GT4 is special.
Combination of manual gear box which actually I now realised I have missed for driving engagement. 918 Buckets, huge brakes, roll cage, big wing and of course the 3.8 flat six.
I'd been planning how to make the GTS more special - looking at headers and tuning packages, drive train and chassis, but the problem is that I'd be throwing money at it and really what I wanted was some that was more special from the start.
Started to think I'd ask my local dealer to keep an eye out for a GT4 or 981 Spyder and let me know.
I popped into the dealership on Friday for a general sniff of what was new - as I walk through the car park, Tom, head of sales says … "what you here for, T?" I say "general look", he says… "GT3 or GT4?" We walk through the door and there it is right at reception and the keys are handed to me… "take your time… then let's have a chat…"
I have always respected and hankered after a GT4, whilst also being a big advocate that the GTS was all I'd ever need for the road, and a PDK 981 GTS really is a weapon, BUT, after driving that GT4 - first turn of the wheel and first shift - I knew I was wrong and that I'd been bitten. Where do I sign.… please.
GT4 has a familiar layout but really feels like a different car to the series 981 and that's because it is different with a completely bespoke rear axle and chassis set up. Thing that surprised me most was the pliancy of the ride on the PASM vs the X73 in the GTS. GT4 is just more sophisticated - plain and simple - it's evident right away, it even puts the power down better as a result.
To keep the GT4 for real driving, I'll be picking up something on lease to take car of daily duties, and we also have a GLA.
This particular car has really been cared for in perfect condition and barely run in, which the CS ancillaries nicely in boxes. Thank you Mr Previous Owner.
This car won't be a garage queen whilst in my care - I plan to keep it for a long time and am not worried about putting good driving miles on it because I believe this is the car I've been looking for in my Porsche journey so far - something that will grow on me - that I'll learn, can be adjusted, has been built to take the punishment and will deliver rewards.
Should be picking up on the weekend - I can't wait.

Fokker: youre right, looking forward to the journey. I bought the Guards Red mid spec car at Leeds OPC, hadn't bought from them before. Whilst clearly relieving me of funds, they did it with style
Mutema: Thanks for the info, you've made me question myself now;) Ill try again tonight, but pretty sure the standard liners don't fit - perhaps there are specific 981 GT4 part numbers? Don't do pics but will measure them up
TDT: very similar journey to you: CGTS, X73 PDK to GT4 and agree your "logic"
Lets be honest, we are lucky bu88ers;)

Thanks for letting me know, I'm sure there are other errors too, especially when cars are first published, as the spec they submit isn't always right. Edited now.TDT said:

yes it is odd how the GT4 feels very GT and solid and very unlike a 981 even with x73 etc, it rides the bumps like no other car at this level should and while it still has EPS, it's a long way from the normal 981 EPS.Moving up from PDK X73 Cayman GTS to the GT4. I could not own a 981 Cayman or Boxster as the steering does my head in on those cars, they are nice cars, but that's it, not drivers cars.
The 981 saps every thing which was sports car from the 987.2 cars imo and just made it a nice car nothing more.
GT4 needs a geo and rear toe links once pushed, but that's cheap enough and transformed the car for me as oem it's way to understeery and I did not gel with my GT4 until I changed the full geo on it.
