I am with the M3 owner here... Had an E61 M5 which was stolen. Paid £33k for an AUC with 31k miles on the clock, then 2yrs later Admiral offered £20k. Mine was loaded, and believe you me, when that E61 M5 was loaded, it had everything - full leather - £5k alone, TV etc. I think the only missing thing was the tow bar and double glazing. £86k original invoice. Car was on 50k miles when stollen, which instantly made it more attractive due to the doubling in cost for the BMW Insured Warranty once the car is over 60k mile.

I understand that 2yrs of depreciation had to be factored in. However, as an insurer, Admiral is supposed to offer a settlement which puts you in the same/comparable car. The £20k initial offer was nowhere near enough to get me into an AUC with 50k and all the extras ticked. It took me 2 months of to-and-fro, getting the FO involved for the pricks at Admiral towers to pay up to £23k, which was still not enough. By then I had lost the will and just cashed in the cheque.
I can sympathise to a degree but you will know M5s are and always have been heavy depreciators due to over pricing when new and over supply.....trade on a 3 year old top spec lowish mileage car currently being c £30k showing a possible and decidedly horrific averaged c £17k annual depreciation so tbh for your car to shed effectively £10k over 2 yrs and 17k miles was about right.

Also, unless you specifically itemised the factory fitted options and costings on your car when you took out the insurance, the insurers are under no obligation to pay out an increased value over a more basic spec car in the event of a claim.....and worst case scenario non declaration can and has invalidated claims.

I am not disputing the depreciation. What I was disputing was their valuation. The insurance company is under an obligation to make it right. In other words, I should be able to buy a similar vehicle - mileage, condition and specification. That was the gist of the correspondence between the FO and Admiral. At the end Admiral caved in and increased their pay out.

They did have a spec list and they still bent me over... I deal with Aviva distinct now. I can't tell you what they're like in the event of a claim but i get a better feeling for them than I do Admiral.
If To got 107k then bloody well done him. Thats a result and a half! No wonder he didn't want anyone knowing! He made a nice packet on it!

I'm sure he'd have preferred it not to happen, but £107k is a very nice profit, especially if he then bought again at list; almost pays for the car. All assumption of course but yes, no wonder he doesn't want to talk about it if true; sure he bought his mate a few pints biggrin

I've always considered John Holland to be pricey but this CS GT4 looks reasonable given the spec at £99K.

They sure know how to fluff up the spec using std / free spec items and listing things twice!

As new delivery mileage - errr I have never yet seen a new car delivered with 100miles on it!
Clubsport pack - extra
Presented in Guards Red - Free
with contrasting Black Leather Upholstery - Looks like the free non extended leather from the pics
and Black Alcantara headlining - Free
Superb specification includes 20" GT4 Light Alloys in Platinum - Free
Porsche PCM Satellite Navigation - extra
Bluetooth Mobile Phone Preparation - extra
Carbon Interior Pack - extra
Carbon Sport Bucket Seats - extra
Sport Chrono - extra
Carbon Fibre Centre Console - err already covered this above in the carbon interior pack
Switchable Sports Exhaust - Free
Alcantara Steering Wheel - Free
GT4 Embossed Seats - Free
Guards Red Seatbelts - extra
Track App - already covered this above in sport chrono
Supplied with 2 keys - free
and all its original owners manuals and wallet - free

So the actual spec is:
Clubsport Pack
Porsche PCM Satellite Navigation
Bluetooth Mobile Phone Preparation
Carbon Interior Pack
Carbon Sport Bucket Seats
Sport Chrono
Guards Red Seatbelts

Still OK spec, but not as good as it seems when you strip out all the waffle!

Its a good spec for the money though taking into account the other cars priced I think.

I does have full leather as you can't have red door handles without red sticking which is only available with full leather so thats an additional £3000.
Its basically the same spec as mine without the PDLS, extra leather trim on inner sills and steering column and possibly auto wipers.
It would have been about £75k os a good 25k profit still less the dealers cut.

I think actually more than £75K given that mine was over £73K but without PCM/sound pack plus and sport chrono which is around £3700?

It's an excellent spec without going overboard.

Derail, how is your Spyder coming along, got it back yet?

Will do a revised assessment of car availability next week.

Well....since you asked.....Spyder is still at the dealer. The clutch issue was sorted very quickly, it was a push on hydraulic fitting which had failed. Porsche approved replacement of the two rear wheels which are now at the dealer. They're now awaiting on a replacement front splitter which is apparently on back order.

All I can say is, never let Porsche Assistance (aka the AA or one of their preferred contractors), recover your car. They're an absolute joke.

Do you mind asking what was wrong with the rear wheels ? I have the older 987 Spyder and can honestly say the quality of the wheel is far superior to the 981 Spyder even after just 250 miles the inside face is like sand paper.
I am also awaiting on a front splitter replacement as was scraped badly underneath where it happened no idea will keep it as a replacement as I am sure many will get damaged due to the low front end .

I have the silver finish on my 981 Spyder and they are quite beautiful. I love these wheels.

The damage was done by Porsche Assistance to both rear wheels when they were strapping them down on the recovery vehicle. Similarly, the splitter was actually damaged by the straps rubbing against it and not actually because it was too low.

£94K. Good price for a PCCB equipped car. No PCM but then I don't think that's essential for a lot of people. Certainly looks good. The buyer could have gone PCM and leather instead of PCCB which may have made it more desirable to most.

Well, it's also the same outlay as buying,
  • A Cayman S for "him", AND
  • A Boxster for "her".
yikes

who wants PCCB's though in a car like this ? I find it an odd option to have ticked so to me looks poor value with no nice bits in it.
it's a crap spec imo, and why spec the track app and not have CS ! plus the cheaper buckets.

It also states it has the PDSL and it does not, so all in all quite a cheap RRP car imo and a tough sell.

There are not many comfort seat specced cars for sale.... its a shame as comfort seats and the full leather/alcantara interior would be a lovely car.....for me!

Its also carrying 1,600 miles.

There's an undelivered car for sale privately with delivery mileage, PCM, clubsport, Spyder buckets and clubsport for £94,995.

Being a straight flip that hasn't even arrived yet, at least you know there's no chance its been ragged before buying, which is more appealing than a car with 1,000+ miles which has probably been given a few red-line hoons before sale

These cars will be sought after once the euphoria on bucket seats for road cars wanes.
