I currently have a 991 Gen 2 S for a few days to try it out and oh my lord it is unresponsive. Its quick on boost but is a blunt tool compared to the Gen 1 3.8. I am massively disappointed with the engine.
The noise is all whooshing and popping which is a bit embarrassing for an everyday driver and as said, the lag and response from the engine is a real downer. It doesnt feel like a Porsche sports car at all to me, more like a diesel Panamera.
I have had a 991 gen 2 S on loan for a week now and I must say my experience is completely different. I find in incredibly fast especially when you hit the warp button on the steering wheel. I also find the suspension setup better than the 991 Gen 1. I give you the fact that it does not sound as good and that it is not as pure as say my Spyder or the 991 GTS but still a great Grand Tourer. It is one of the crowed in the middle 991 range and probably will never stand out as a classic but still a great car none the less. I think this is the issue - it's a 911 , it's not supposed to be a Grand Tourer , it's supposed to be a 911 GT4RS said:
The owner of the 85k base car is open to offers, I have emailed him and he has confirmed this. Please note I'm unsure on how much he will move but if someone is looking for a cheaper gt4 now this may be the one for you!
Personal I wouldn't pay over list for any gt4.
Car now sold. I won't let betray the trust of the new owner by stating the sale price. Personal I wouldn't pay over list for any gt4.

Spec and miles have always been key to price as can been seen in the 991gt3 prices, the base cars are bloody hard to sell.
Make him an offer as you say you would buy at £79k :-)
I bet you don't though as you also want the spec :-)
I just paid £7k more for my R than the cheapest R for sale due to spec.
People have a choice, buy a cheaper car with no spec or buy a more expensive one with spec.
Talking prices is cheap parting with money is the real deal.
Dealers will talk down spec come part ex as they want to buy your car at base price, but back in the real world REAL buyers are fussy buggers and want ALL the spec I find.
That car at £85k is doing every owner a massive favour and it's the perfect base line , if some one offered me £85k I would say if you want a £85k car go buy the black one, stops low offer bullstters right there.

I agree it has lost something in terms of edginess over the 997 but I would still have a gen 2 991 over a gen 1 car of similar model type. Sorry probably not appropriate for this thread, going off topic.wdpor said:

Its still a very well built good looking car Willie but I just feel that the noise and response has gone. The turbo lag is laughable.I'd have a 991 Gen 1 GTS any day for my 100k, maybe even save a few quid. I just think its a shame that the 911 has become a bit of a large GT style car. I suppose it makes way for the Cayman to be the sports car in the range and with the GT4 they have a world beater. Interestingly if you park my GT4 along side a 996 turbo, the GT4 looks bigger! My old Cayman R was about the same size as a 996 turbo... they should put all these cars on a diet!
I just love the arse on the 911 !

I don't disagree with anything you have said I would have the GT4 anyday over the 991.2 C2S. This one I have at the moment lists at £109K. The 991.1 GTS is better, I had one of those for a few days also but the 991.1 C2S isn't IMO. I just love them all I am like a kid in a sweetie shop when I go into the OPC. Did you use the little button the the steering wheel (I call it the warp button) at any point? it was a blast I kept running out of road and also looking over my shoulder to see if I was about to get nicked. My licence is in tatters as it is but yes I did have a play! Its probably as fast as a 997 turbo so bloody quick! Which is your local OPC?wdpor said:

I think we've seen the last of the NA engines apart from the GT cars hopefully Porsche will stick with the statement that NA engines will stay in the GT cars. In a few years we will see the end of the Turbo Lumps making way for hybrid technology. Give it another seven years and see where we are.
