Compared to the premium that the gt3 rs is so called fetching the gt4 is a real bargain even at 100k take my word for it i would rather have 100k invested in a gt4 than any other performance car, freind of mine has just traded in his aston v12 vantage and lost 60k in 18 monthes,i will be looking to change the gt4 in 2 years time and if i lose 25k i cant see me losing much more.
just my opinion of course simon

You won't be losing 25k in 2 years thats for sure. You just have to look at the current price of the Cayman GTS in the high 50's and 60's to know that the GT4 will retain strong residuals just my opinion of course simon
Any talk of it losing lot of money is just nonsense in my opinion. If you ask me they'll settle at between 85 - 100k depending on spec and mileage and stay that way until the Gen 2 comes along and depending on whether thats a Turbo or not will see which way the price goes.
The new GT4 will be slightly more expensive at probably 70 - 75k list plus options and if N/A will see a slight dip in Gen 1 prices possibly. If the Gen 2 is a 718 Turbo then you'll see the Gen 1 increase quite significantly in price. My hunch is that the Gen 2 will be N/A and the last of such a breed making it a very special car indeed.
I don't see how it can be NA tbh. I know Porsche have said it will "probably" be NA F6 but there is no NA engine in the 911 range now, so that means they would have to use the old tech. Not very Porsche.
Also I am not sure you could fit the turbo 6 in the GT4 either.
That leaves the 2.5T. Or the 991 GT3 engine

Agree, whatever NA supporters might want, any sensible (for Porsche) NA option will be slower than (say) a 400bhp 2.5T. And there is no way a 718 GT4 is going to be allowed to seriously threaten mid range 911s.Also I am not sure you could fit the turbo 6 in the GT4 either.

There was talk they'd use the same 3.8L lump from the current GT4, but with a slightly higher tune to just below that of the turbo'd 911's, so it is conceivable there will be a 981.2 GT4. No chance of the 4.0L engine, though that would be incredible. Hope they don't make one, but if they do, I'll be sure to be ordering one.

Agreed and its probably why they have detuned this GT4 unit down to 385bhp to make way for a power hike in the Gen 2 version.
yep they have 2 nice options now 1 just a tune for say 410bhp or 2 the x51 kit for 430bhpthing is what would you have if the next GT3 is the 4.0l engine and manual as expected, that's the car to own imo but that does leave a lot of room for the 3.8 GT4 with 80bhp less.
I just wonder what their status is re production of the actual motors.
If they continue to use the 991.1 S motor then its all well and good but you need a production line, that does not exist any more.
So then you are looking at small numbers production, whilst possible, expensive.
They are basically having to do this for the 991.2 GT3..

if the 718 Gts punches 370bhp+ then a n/a. Gt4 at 400 hp is going to struggle ! Imo it will most likely be a F4 turbo with 400 hp!
Plus the only engines porsche now make are f4 turbo in 2.0 and 2.5, f6 turbo in 3.0 and. F6 n/a 4.0 gt lump.
They could bore out the 3.0 turbo to 4.0 n/a but that will be expensive for less than a 10000 units(shared between spyder and gt4) unless the 991.2 Gts carries such an engine also but then that has got to put out in excess of 450hp+ to compete with the current 991.2s which then puts it to close to a gt3!
So flat 4 turbo it is then!
