I'm the biggest advocate for reducing unsprung weight, though I have to say I'm not overly fussed where the reduction comes from : lighter brakes, tyres, wheels, suspension or a combination of all, the less US weight the better in my book ! !
What I do I know is that binning the craptastic (© JL) standard (and heavy) brakes on the 1M and fitting larger, lighter AP discs and 6 pots, completely transformed the steering feel, along with the ride and the car's turn in to a staggering degree.
So whilst the benefits of reducing wheel and tyre weights most likely has a larger and more noticeable effect/benefit, reducing stuff closer to the hub also has huge benefits too. But I've no doubt the fitment of some lightweight forged wheels and the lightest available comparable sized tyres would've further improved things further still on the 1M.
Shocked the Cayman 17" wheel/tyre combo uses 235's on the rear !

Just to get back (vaguely) to the topic, I see in this month's Evo that (at last!) someone - SharkWerks - are giving the GT4 (and presumably any manual Cayster) a more sensible set of ratios. 1st and 2nd (pity) stay the same but 3-6 can all be closer. They also do some engine upgrades (Evo not so keen). Expensive, but worth a look.

No - just in the UK. It is amazing that given the manual gearbox ratios have been so widely critised that an alternative is so low profile.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULIuS_wO6o0&fe...

Tbh without changing 2nd gear I personally think it's a waste of time changing gears 3-5 only.Edited by bcr5784 on Saturday 18th March 21:28

That was my initial impression too. But the argument put forward was that instead of only using 2nd and 3rd on give and take roads, you use 3rd and 4th instead avoiding cross plane shifts. Apparently changing 2nd would have been much more expensive.Slippydiff said:

Have to say the videos tell you practically nothing (except that the drivers like the changes). The Sharkwerks site http://www.sharkwerks.com/products.php?pid=464 does actually tell you what the ratio changes are - putting the gearing in 3rd and 4th more like those of the PDK box..... 3rd is (inevitably) a bit close to 2nd and there is a big jump 5th to 6th - but actually pretty reasonable choices imo. Pity it isn't cheaper.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULIuS_wO6o0&fe...

Have to say I wasn't suggesting they did tell you anything, other than the fact a revised gearkit was now available Of course if you live in cave without an interweb connection, a good old magazine would have to suffice .... bcr5784 said:

My professional view for what its worth at 85ish thats got to be a smart buy. I've had our very own rfoster run me some numbers!

Please show me where they have come down 10-20k? Prices have softened from the early highs but are still strong and perhaps 10k off but not 20k!My professional view for what its worth at 85ish thats got to be a smart buy. I've had our very own rfoster run me some numbers!

You seem to be belligerantly anti troglodyte - I'm sure there is a law against it.
I refuse to take anything too seriously on an interweb forum But the Matt Farrah video was released over three months ago (I'll give you the Drive Tribe Henry Catchpole one as it's only a month old) as for being belligerent in my distain for troglodytes It's all purely in jest fridaypassion said:

not much lol, as they seems to have gone up not down since Christmas ! £90k was always the benchmark to get you a Bucketed car with leather, carbon with PCM, nothing has moved regarding that, unless the car has more miles. in fact I cannot see a car for sale less than £90k in that spec atm with sub 3k miles on it.My professional view for what its worth

I think he was referring to the odd 110k priced car in the early days of them just coming on the market.10k I would agree but if anything, they've strengthened from end of last year where some were sold in the high 70's.
Looking pretty stable to me now and far fewer on the market.
Has anyone noticed how many Cayman GTS' are on the Porsche used locator now? 21 !
I swear it was about six one month ago! Are people changing for the GT4 and 718?
