Hi, I currently own a 981 Cayman S PDK which I no longer will use daily. Hence, I am looking to buy a weekend toy smile which will not drop too much in value in the coming years as I expect to keep it a minimum of 4 years. Therefore, with my budget of £40-£50k I have my heart set on a 987 Boxster Spyder from opc with the peace of mind of 2yr warranty. I would like to know your opinion if someone has made the move from 981 to 987 Spyder. I have driven the car below and felt it is more sharp and agile in corners in comparison to my current car which I believe is important for a toy. Also, given the low production numbers of the 987 Spyder and my 5,000 yearly mileage I expect this to be low on depreciation. The car I'm looking at http://locator.porsche.com/ipl-customer/ipl/detail... has buckets,PSE,sports chrono. The only downside I see is it has the Turbo wheels. Do you think any other important options are missing in this Spyder? Also, do you think these will still be worth say 20k after 4 yrs with 40k miles? Appreciate your opinions

I don't think you'll be losing much over four years, I can still see these at £30k+ with 40k miles if not more.

If I was looking for a Spyder, I'd definitely be taking a look at this one http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

Looks the perfect spec to me, private sale yes, but looks well looked after and these cars are pretty reliable.

Great cars for the money, almost bought one but jumped into a GT3 instead three years ago. For a road car in the UK I think you'd probably have more fun in a manual Spyder.

Have fun in your search thumbup

These cars are quite spec sensitive. As a weekend car (and enthusiasts car) you should opt for a manual.

The main options for me would be:

Manual
White or silver
Spider alloys
PSE
Buckets in alcantara

Seems the Porsche approved web page is currently down however I suspect the one you added the link for is at Aberdeen OPC. If that is the case then I believe that it is on a SOR and the Turbo wheels and PDK are the majority of sticking points for buyers and hence why it is not shifting.

Agree with "g7jhp" that these cars are very spec sensitive to allow them to sell quickly on the 2nd hand market. However a lot of Spyder owners do not want the lightweight spec and are happy with some modern comforts (e.g.heated seats). It just means when you come to sell it may take slightly longer.

Also as the Spyder is very much a weekend warrior for a lot of people, mileage is also key as a lot of the cars are sitting at below 15k miles (mines at 13k but only did 400 miles last year in it).

My own opinion is that the cars will retain the value in the coming years, the 981 Spyder is slightly different and has a different type of appeal (i.e. a day to day liveable Spyder) which may work in the favour of the 987 Spyder in the future (i.e. become the purist choice smile )

This is my car, I have had numerous traders trying to buy it but no one with what I would class as a genuine fair offer, the advert expires today so if anyone is interested PM through here. I will look at possibly re advertising in the new year or may leave it until spring when prices may firm up.

The cars are mega will be £60k imo in the right spec which is what some one else posted, one of Porsche best ever cars to date, and it does what no new car can do inc the GT4 and 981 Spyder.

Manual
Spider alloys
Buckets

PSE and ss you can add later if the price is right, wheels are £5k, buckets about £8k.
PDK well you don't go there on this car imo it just don't fit with it and all the guys who seem to have had PDK on PGCB have sold and moved on to the next PDK think or a new SPyder.

vry very nice car that, don't waver on price ;-) that will sell, Porsche Leicester sold a car like that for £46k only last month and 911V was up at £45k.

I would put it back up at £45k in spring, it's a great spec esp with alcantara bits or KEEP IT nothing else like it ;-)

Thanks for that, I think people seem happy to pay the dealer the 5k mark up rather than buy private despite these cars not having anything which really goes wrong, no engine risk, no PDK gearbox risk. Tyres are nearly new on mine, just add fuel!!!

I agree, if I was in the market for a Spyder, I'd buy yours...but with the black polished wheels.

As said, spec sensitive these cars, has to be Manual, Buckets, Sports Exhaust...

Agree - that looks like a great Spyder with the correct wheels (why oh why did people put heavy turbo wheels on some of them!). Should sell at that price with patience.

If you are talking about the Aberdeen car, it used to be mine and is not on SOR, I traded it in for the new one. Great car in top condition, I actually think the wheels suit the car very well, they were factory fitted and from what I gather the weight difference is pretty negligible in the scheme of things.

Sandy,

Apologies about that as it was based upon information from what Aberdeen OPC told a prospective buyer.

Hope you sell it. If I hadn't got two garages filled I'd buy it myself, honestly! Looks perfect.

As others have said, it'll sell. As Mr GT4 says, probably one of the best cars Porsche have produced in the past.

Yep, shock horror PorscheGT4 talking up the price of a car he owns. Hype by name, hype by nature!

As bad as some as the inflated dealer expectations... chancers.

I notice he's indicated the GT4 will be sold.

The Spyder is a great car and ideal as a weekend toy. They are just such a fun car to drive, I did a number of Euro trips in mine and it was perfect for mountain passes!

Spec wise I personally would go for as "true" a spec as you can, spyder wheels, buckets etc. I had a PDK car and I don't think that it suited the car as much as a manual although I don't think that effects resale.

When I sold mine it never even made it to market, I had three dealers all wanting to buy off me and there is a strong demand for the Spyder.

This is arguably a better long term buy than the Aberdeen car!

Correct wheels, gearbox and seats for this type of car and will help it sell in the future.

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

Not normally a white car fan but it looks good with the black wheels on the Spyder, the only thing I would want on top of this would be the alcantara steering wheel!
