Evening all - my first post
Whilst out for a wiz in my 2010 997.2 turbo (46,000 miles - Mobil 1 oil changed annually) I happened to notice that the oil pressure gauge needle was up and down like a fiddler's elbow! It was varying with revs and was never below being horizontal - is that 3bar? and went up to about 1 -2 o'clock (sorry to be so vague, but car is under it's cover now) Revs were from tickover to about 4500 - 5k. I've had this car for 21 months now and sadly I can't say that I've ever noticed this before. Looking at a couple of Pistonheads replies, it seems to be normal on n/a 997 engines, but I couldn't see anything specific to Turbo engines.
Anyone ever notice what oil pressure variation they get on theirs?
Cheers all

Hope so, it's just that all other cars I've had including my supercharged Westfield seem to keep their OP more or less constant when funning, only dropping down at tickover.

You may well have a point so I stand to be corrected, I will state my oil pressure gauge is not erratic but is more or less constant and only drops when slowing/stopping.

Yours sounds like it's very sensitive to change! Is it under warranty? I'd get it checked for peace of mind if nothing else.

Not sure if this helps or answers the OP's question, but the oil pressure on my 996tt starts off high-ish, when engine is cold.

One the temperature gauge is above 80 and the oil is beginning to warm up properly, the pressure drops - on like-for-like revs - and then, once the car is warm enough to drive properly, I find the oil pressure will vary, but only depending on engine revs.

Not sure if the 996 engine has the same internals as my 997.2
On the Porsche Club site, someone who knows a lot more than me - not too difficult - reminds me that my engine has a total of 7 oil pumps, one of which is electric.
I'll see if I can get an answer from my dealer.
