I wouold go the other way round, I think a lower profile tyre on track is better and offers less roll.
where on the road a higher profile tyre will be a better ride.
ALso might be worth a look at the Sport contact 6

I would not risk it myself as I love the pilot SS and bought the Dunlop Race maxx due to great reviews only to find it not that great so took them off 1/2 worn and they were big money !!!
I never got them to work, I even think I took boxsey out at Donny and could never get them dailed in, was a frustrating tyre.
The Pilot SS just do what they do, and we took two Porkers to Spa one with SS on and they were great on track at Spa also.
I think I would go OZ 19" with SS on 100% if it were me.

I appreciate the suggestions. I've done the high grip tyre thing with Mich cups and Toyo R888s when I had the 964 but want to leave those days behind...especially the days sitting out the wet sessions because the tyres (with my talent) won't cope. Trips to Spa almost always see wet days, regardless of the time of year. It's a long way to go to sit in the garage! The MPSS seems to be the sweet spot for a road/track compromise, hence being able to use them being a major driver for the choice of track wheels.
I want to avoid using the original Spyder 19 inch wheels on track to keep them away from brake dust damage and the like.
An option for using the MPSS on 18s would be to use a 225/40/18 on the front. However the load spec for those drops to 88 from the recommended 91. Which might be a concern when loading up a front wheel when on track?

Sport contact 6 looks interesting but getting the right sizes looks to be an even bigger issue as it affects 19s and 18s.where on the road a higher profile tyre will be a better ride.

What is even more interesting in that link is that the Hankook S1 evo 2 does well in those tests....and is available in the right sizes for 18s...and a full set would come in at less than £550!
I have a set of 19" OZ Ultralegerra in Black with PSS fitted for track days. They are ideal for the Cayman R as the offsets are better than standard wheels eliminating the need for front spacers (Front 53 and Rear 40) and they look similar to the Spyder wheels.
I was not going to use the CR on track anymore as I have the Boxster so I may consider selling them complete.
I also have a set of 19" carrera S (Lobster claw) wheels with Toyo R888's on which could do with a refurb which would sell cheap

New owner here as of today. Need to get some stone chips sorted and a correction detail done and one wheel needs a refurb but I plan to use it as a daily 2 or 3 weeks per month so won't be stuck in the garage too much.
Spec:
Black
Manual
Buckets
PSE
Chrono
Spiders
AC
Rear parking sensors
Aux input
Cup holders
2 years Porsche warranty
I don't have Nav but not bothered. What I would have liked would be alcantara steering wheel and gearshift gaiter but I have leather and also no Xenons (first world problem right there!).
Cheers

Going to put a set of tyres on mine in the next few weeks.
Would Cup's be ok for warranty being N- Rated??
If they're n rated then no problem. If they're not, Keep your old tyres (as long as they have enough tread). If there are any issues, then swap your cups back for any warranty work.Would Cup's be ok for warranty being N- Rated??
Maybe a fun weekend around N.Wales finding out if you'd love an R, at under £500 (plus a tank of petrol I suspect!)
