Just got the car back from the Sport/plus upgrade and am very pleased with what it has added to the car. As some of you rightly pointed out, it's almost necessary to get the best out of the PDK. The sport plus is a particular grin factor when in auto mode. It jolts you in the small of the back on the upshifts which adds to the fun. It's not so noticeable a difference in paddle mode except from those more savage upshifts close to the red line.
At £830 for the upgrade I would class it as pretty good value for money as I guess it would have cost at least that if the sport chrono had been specced when the car was new. There's no clock for the dash with the upgrade but that doesn't bother me in the slightest. Now looking forward to trying it on the track.

managed to get the unicorn on track this last few days at the Ring. Sport plus and pdk are brilliant on track allows you to concentrate more on the lines and braking. I have pccbs so the brakes were phenomenal but tyres get hot very quickly. Easily remedied and the car is very easy to drive quickly very flattering to the driver. The balance of the car is great and it's a nice cruising machine to sit at 100 on the autobahn without breaking a sweat. Totally stable at 150+ as well. Great all rounder very much in love but not something I'd bother doing short circuit work in.

It should be awesome Boxsey. I'm thinking about that upgrade for mine and it's a manual, for a PDK car, I think it's a must have!
I'm not sure how much difference it will make to a manual car. In paddle mode in mine I don't feel there is much difference in throttle response between the normal, sport and sport plus modes. So that's likely to be the same for a manual gearbox R. However, it'll give you the sportier PSM modes which should be useful on tracks and is a cheaper upgrade at £630 for the manual.Just back from a fantastic trip to Spa and then Zandvoort. As a car to travel across Europe, do some tracks and then come home again the Cayman R is just about perfect. The recent sport/plus upgrade really came good for the track sessions. Money well spent. The MPSC2s are bought now, they're going on this Saturday. Then it's going to the garage on the 26th. Then I think a trip to Silverstone is in order
Make best use of them while the weather remains warm and dry because once in the depths of winter it won't be as much fun.boxsey said:

Good man. Two of us will be Oulton Park on Tuesday in ours. There will also be a GT4 and GT3 with us. The MPSC2s are on now. I've only driven back from the tyre fitter but initial thoughts are slightly improved ride and in spite of them being cold and not scrubbed in yet and the road being a little damp, they didn't try and throw me off the road at any point, which I was kind of half expecting given some comments I've read and also what the Cup+ was like on my old E92 M3.
All being well I will pop my Porsche cherry on Saturday with my own Cayman R.
Wanted a Porsche for 33 years now and always found a reason not to. I wanted a 911 and initially completely discounted the Cayman, because quite simply... It's not a 911.
However I only want a GT3, however like most, I've missed the GT3 boat now.
I thought I would howeve try a Cayman R and see if it was any good. Wow is all I can say, totally special car in its own right. Completely fell in love with it and can't wait to collect it
