v true. mines remapped to 270bhp but thats still 60 down on the cayman. not sure the lbft comparison though

r26.r probably faster in the wet..rest of the time i imagine the cayman would walk away. as it should for double the money!

Just remembered I had this tucked away

Rather a prophetic comment from Autocar. But a pity really they didn't do what Renault did...proper weight saving , half cage and Ti exhaust..

Thx for comments...will be keeping an eye out for a white manual

Just for clarity I was stating that it was the R26R that is the benchmark for the ride and handling not the Cayman R.

The R26R is a very well set up car almost Lotus like in its ability to ride the B roads and also still firm enough for dedicated track use.

Down on power but it is a bit lighter. Ultimately theres no match for the Caymans engine the delivery is IMO much preferable to the 2.0 Turbo even with a decent map. Torque is about the same assuming a stage 2 map on the Renault. I suspect the Renault over the longer term will appreciate more.

They should have had a multi option version of PASM on the R. Not many owners will admit it of course but the PASM setup is vastly superior to the fixed R setup.

For me the essence of the Cayman R is its firm(ish) passive damping and the buckets that help communicate that damping to your butt. That's why I chose it over an S. I can't see it going up in value but I believe it's unlikely to shed value in a hurry (I don't see the gen 2 S losing much either). A great driver's car that you won't lose your shirt on....makes it a win-win in my book.

At any money, would you want a Porsche on Cat D ? I spotted this one the other day and the wheels/decals could be the tip of the iceberg. If they can't be bothered with simple visible detail, what about the stuff you can't see ?

indeed. dont think I disagree. shame, as its the spec I want.

thing with Cat D it could just have been keyed or v lightly pranged but the garage say they have no details or paperwork, and came across as geezers.
and its not actually their car "its for sale independently" me: "so how many owners is it?" them "1". me: "so the seller must know the details of the damage" them" no, that was the first owner, not the guy selling it"

That's the Lotus route. When push comes to shove not many are prepared to take it.

I certainly wouldn't have wanted PASM on an R - had it on my C2S before, and although it's a pretty decent adaptive damping setup compared to the likes of Audi (dozens of settings, most of them awful), I find the setup in the R great for fast road and the odd bit of track day fun.

As moose says, it would have been nice to have had a an upgrade option, but I wouldn't have wanted that upgrade to be PASM.

I'm meeting with Öhlins next week, so I'll ask them if they're still planning to do a Road&Track setup for the 987 platform - if they are, I'll offer to be a real world test mule; well not me personally, rather my car :-)

I had 6 of them, 3 manual, 3 PDK, the manual versions were the best, however the PDK had its own qualities.

So just lightly keyed then ? biggrin

It takes more than keying (pretty much irrespective of how many panels) to make a car such as an R uneconomic to repair .....
The truth will always out, and it looks to all intents and purposes as if you've outed the truth in fairly short order in this instance smile
