EVO had a feature in their pre-Xmas issue that was about what to buy used for £50k. They listed the 1M, 911 GTS and early R8 (57 plate with 28K miles). There is a lot in that price bracket but depreciation is the tricky thing to avoid and with something like an R8 I would be concerned at elevated running costs. For me the Cayman R fits the bill perfectly, but as the article states, you want to be able to use the car and not have to actively avoid using it to protect the resale.

I use mine, but am guilty of being conscious of the effect that adding 6k or 7k per year to the mileage will have on resale so mine will be limited to 3k or so per year but given that my daily "station car" only does about 3k per year anyway, this isn't likely to be too limiting in reality.

I wouldn't sweat about that too much. What's it going to do shave a couple of grand off the top of you add 20k? There's nothing worse than buying a car and being afraid to put miles on it. I couldn't give two hoots what I do in mine.

I do like the 911 GTS but as per the article good ones are a lot more £ than a CR

You're right!! I can't bring myself to get it covered in salt but cometh the dry day and it'll be out. I resisted putting on a SORN as I need to know I can use it at the drop of a hat.

Looking just like its R cousin 😉

"Halo effect"

Can someone please tell me, do the carbon buckets require any extra brackets to be able to use 4 or 6 pt Schroth harnesses? Thx

Yeah anchors behind the rear bulkhead cover. Not sure how you would do it on a 987 the 981 has to be specced with clubs port pack I believe that includes the fixing points.

Most 987s I've seen with belts have had a roll hoop fitted with integrated harness bar.

996/997 turbo hit this bracket nicely and are less mileage effected. Cost more to run and turbo not for everyone. Cayman R's do look a safe bet. Would probably prefer a Spyder for the added benefit in summer.

You also need to fit sub bars to the underside of the seat frame. These are a Porsche part 996 521 933 90 referred to as a crossmember. Easy enough job to fit but seats need to come out.

Took mine for a long weekend blast yesterday. Single figure temperature, but the sun was shining hard and the road was dry. Absolutely loved it. Needs a clean desperately now though, absolutely caked in crap.

Would really like to take it on a Europe road trip this year!! Anyone else up for it?

Sounds like fun! If I can get some childcare sorted, would be a good trip for me and the Mrs.

I don't have anything in mind.

I just really want to do a road trip in the R. Find some amazing roads and valleys with great views. Couple of nice hotels, lakes, visit a circuit or two. (although not sure I'd take mine on the track)

Why not join one of the many paid for organised tours most of which tend to have several Porsche cars anyway?

Guys what's the view on pricing for these? Porsche seem to suggest putting it up in track season? Saw someone say they think high spec cars are about 48k at the moment... ok mines Pdk and up for 42.5k should I be putting this up a little now?
