Hi guys – newbie here! I have been looking at Cayman R’s for the last few months, there are a couple currently on PH that look good to me however I know that both have been on line since October/November.

There is an Aqua Blue PDK at 22k miles from JZM currently available and a White PDK at 33k miles listed from Autostore Cambs. Both are obviously PDK which I know tend to hang around a bit longer than manuals and the Aqua Blue doesn’t have PSE, that aside is very well spec’d. (I can link if allowed?)

Is it just the current market or would you say there are other reasons these are still around I haven’t noticed?

I bought my R in October and it's white with the main options required and a manual...it was up for at least 2-3 months...I just don't think many people are buying them at the moment.

It's all relative in my opinion. While there are 16 x CRs in the PH classifieds, there are over 40 x 997GT3s. The commonality between the two is that dealers are sticking with their prices and not worried about keeping cars in stock. I guess they know for experience that each will find the right buyer eventually. When I looked to buy mine I waited around 3 months. Indeed there were cars that never sold in those 3 months and the prices were never dropped. In fact, one car was put up in price while I was watching! 12 months on, there is only one that I was watching at the time that is still for sale (black one at Targa Florio). So basicially, the only reason they are sitting around is that the dealers are waiting for the right buyer and are not expecting a price crash.

BTW as far as I can see the average price of a CR today is about the same as when I was looking for one this time last year.

Thanks for the prompt response guys.

The white Cayman R is coming in a few £K cheaper however has circa 10k more miles. Both have the likes of Carbon buckets, Chrono Plus, Spyders, xenon and aircon. Anything else i'm missing apart from PSE?

Whilst I do like the Aqua Blue has anyone had any experience with resale? I imagine it would split opinions with some loving and some hating the colour.

How do you feel they are priced? I understand a manual with all the right specs are fetching high 40's therefore would PDK without PSE warrant circa £45,000?

If you want PDK the white one looks good value to me. It does have PSE. And also has the rare rear wiper option that some won't like! biggrin However, despite the claimed full history, do expect it to be on original brake discs so you might have to budget for those. Prices varies according to whether you have OEM replacements at an independent or Porsche original.

Good advise thank you.

Something the Aqua Blue has going for it is relatively new consumables. I guess buying from JZM will always come with a premium too due to reputation.

Also, as cars approach 6 years they will need the drive belt replaced and the engine air filter (assuming not already done).

If the blue one takes your fancy, check that spark plugs were done as part of the major Porsche service they mention in the ad. Before I bought mine it had that service done (major at 4 years) for the previous owner as part of the sale. Yet the Porsche centre (who shall remain nameless) didn't do the plugs for him. It's about £350 if you pay yourself.

p.s. I'm fairly sure that car came up for sale privately in the middle of last year....it was quite a bit lower in price then.

Why didn't they change the spark plugs? It's under the standard definition of a four year service. He may have elected to not have the spark plugs done, I know I was given the option.

I don't think it is part of the 4 year service. It's certainly not if you go with the fixed-price service option, same with brake fluid

Yes it's strangely worded in the maintenance book as it's described as 'additional maintenance' which goes on to say that the plugs should be changed every 60K or no later than every 4 years. So it's an option to us the owners at the 4 year service but it's not really an option because if we don't get it done, a future warranty claim might get sticky. As this car was sold at the time needing plugs to be up to date on maintenance, I suspect it was conveniently overlooked while the salesman was calculating his margin. When I bought it later I knew I would have to get them done as one of the first jobs. I'm now looking forward to the next small intermediate maintenance with the 'optional' every six year items of air cleaner, drive belt and PDK clutch oil. laugh

I had my R serviced on 4 year in November, major service. Optional item was the spark plugs. Was an absolute piss take for the sake of an OPC stamp.

The plugs on my CR were changed at 2 years and 9k miles, the last service I had last week at 23k miles and 4 years included them strictly speaking but I declined to have them replaced again!

Apparently the reason they recommend changing them so soon is not because the plugs deteriorate but because they are prone to welding themselves into the heads.

Had the brake fluid changed which had a noticeable affect on the pedal feel though, well worth having that done as advised.

It's one of the rarer colours. And the best one in my opinion. The rarer the better (assuming the options are there)

Thank you all again for the replies.

How about the black one online at TH Boler, seems to have similar amounts of miles as the one at JZM, I am pretty sure from speaking with them previously it has a PSE however its not mentioned in the description. Also has 11months Porsche warranty.

Looking at the interior pics there is no PSE button on the console so unlikely to have it.

You're right, I just called to check.

So that makes the JZM one very similar in milage, spec and price. Black CR had 11months Porsche warranty but JZM comes with their own warranty which I hear is just as good!

Dilemas! I do like the white in Cambs however its 10k miles higher.

There are a few stone chips on the blue in JZM however I guess that is to be expected.
