Do you think he may have bought one ?

lol would be class after all this time.
I hope so then he can be a R fan boy like the rest of us, it just takes time with the car to realise it rather than a few test drives.

Blimey mate, Welcome to the fold!

Now another quick question about the battery - Bosch one was delivered today with the blanking pugs in it (which I removed) But Porsche has a cable that fits into the top of the battery (where the transport blank was) are you meant to plug that cable into the space where the transport plug was - there's nowhere else to put the thing!

Cheers

Yes, thought that it may come as a bit of shock after our chat over a coffee 2-3 years ago !

smile

Your new battery, you mention a cable, do you mean a cable or the drain tube arrowed here :

Yes that's it Slippy - the drain tube. I've plugged it in same spot as you have it. The R will grow on you - especially if you upgrade the brakes which are st as std!

The real problem with the Cayman R is what you swap it for. It's such a good road car and surprisingly good on track that there really isn't much that makes sense. I do love the new Lotus Sport 380 but it's pretty expensive. And the Elise Cup 250 should also be a riot on track but every time I get into the Cayman and go for a hoon, I struggle to imagine parting with it especially as it's losing no money. Hmmm.... decisions, decisions...

Yes agree had mine nearly 3 years and can't think of anything in my price range I can swap it for with the way Porsche prices are now.
I was down for. GT4 never got one or a Spyder both would have been a small spec which would have suited my pocket . No way can I stretch to the prices for a used GT4.
So looks like a service next month and kept it a bit longer.

As the S4 is sealed and cannot be topped up or leak, I just left it unplugged.

The R brakes are not that st, it's in the top cars for braking and came 37th beating an exige and f430. Google from 100 to 0 the 50 best braking cars :-)

BTW anyone else got an R on a 62 plate....that's the first one I've seen.
Mine was registered on 18.09.2012 so it is a 62 plate. I purchased it when it was 1 year old with 4,000 miles.

Now 13,000 miles. Great car.

I got the S5 - told it was the new technology - platinum range instead of blue and only £20 more than the S4. Still a lot cheaper than the Porsche battery with its added Porsche tax.

You're right, the brakes aren't that st but they are the weak point of an otherwise exceptional car.

Can someone post a link for the latest, best Bosch battery for the R?

I'm not actually sure what is in mine at the moment, but after a week of no driving (& it's not on a trickle charger as it's parked on the street) the alarm didn't work on the fob, but it did thankfully turn over. Took it for a decent drive after & I've made sure to use it a little more often.

If there's a link to a recommended solar trickle charger as well that would be handy - I could obviously Google these things but would much prefer the recommendation from fellow R owners!

The fob button not unlocking the car after 7 days is normal - it goes to sleep to save the battery.
I use the Bosch S4 battery in mine.

...and to wake it up, just pull the door handle while it's still locked and the fob will then work normally again.

Witchcraft.

Anyone got a recommendation for trickle chargers / alternatives for cars that live on the road rather than garage?

Is the solar type the best?

I tried, however (& this will definitely sound lazy!) I was hoping someone could recommend one they are already using in anger & are happy with.

Having 5 different ones to choose from will basically leave me procrastinating for the rest of the week.

I have Bosch S5 battery in mine.

Looks like this http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/p/-/-/-/-/?444...

But buy from Tayna batteries as they are cheaper. I can send you the exact details if helpful?

I use a plug-in charger by C-TEK - they are very good and I have an adapter which allows you to charge from the cigarette lighter which is very convenient.

Excellent, thanks!

No need re. the charger - seems like the battery is coping with a week's inactivity now & it's getting well used at the weekends so should be fine for a bit!
