I like the look of the car. I'll look forward to a test drive - hopefully there will be more cabin insulation to mute the engine sound, then it wont matter how many cylinders there are !!

Well I THINK I like it, ish. a bit.

Hmm, the back end looks very plain though.

I actually don't have any gripes with the black stripes. What bothers me are these pseudo diffusers that are the signature of boring hatches, coupes and softroaders

Is it my imagination or does it look a little more 'squared off' along the sides, particularly from the rear 3/4 view, compared to the 981, a bit more Aston Vanquishy?

It's not a disaster by any means, but I really don't like the black strip or the rear reflectors, other than that it looks nice enough?

That engine though, bloody EU emissions regs, eh?

I think it looks ok, but I also hate fake diffusers. Surely it should have a flat floor and some proper aero with real diffuser. Even SUV's have fake diffusers.

I think overall i prefer its predecessor.

Somewhat bizarrely the uk configurator has a picture of the 718 Cayman under the heading 718 - rather than the boxster. (though when you go further it does show the Boxster and not the Cayman) It suggests the configurator will be updated soon.

I think it's intentional and part of the rebranding.
It seems likely that they will drop the Cayman and Boxster branding within a year and replace it with 718 Coupé / 718 Roadster or 718 / 718 Cabriolet or something along these lines.

You're probably right - though I believe the Americans don't like cars without names. BMW have got away with calling a 3 series a 3xx Sedan or a 2xx a 2xx Coupe, so I suppose 718 Coupe and 718 Roadster might work. Having a Cayman and a Cayenne in your range was never very sensible.

I agree, absolutely. A cheap looking piece of trim.

Presumably a GTS/GT4 will have something more realistic looking as part of the marketing push.

See my similar comments on the 'Launch Night' thread. The 'accent strip' adds an unnatural step in the rear deck. The pseudo diffusers appear to be a regular Porsche design touch for facelifts. They did this on the 986.1 to 986.2 facelift, the 987.1 to 987.2 facelift ,then on the facelifts of both generations of Cayenne.

Edited to correct thread title.

Just had a play, shocked that digital radio does not come with the PCM (actually should be standard really)

I specced up something similar to my GTS and it came in around £65k, a similar price. With PDK and Miami Blue paint it would be pushing £70k - for an 'S'!

Looks like they're tweaking the site. It's gone again, bound to be back soon I'm sure.

the prices haven't really changed have they (vs new 981)?

i specced a 981 prior to the 718 being announced and the same spec is pretty much the same price AFAICT.

contrary to most (all?) around here, i prefer the new styling to any Boxster/Cayman that has come before. the rear lights are still far from perfect, but they're another small step in the right direction.

phoned Porsche and no one seems to know when the new Cayman will be available. i test drove the 981C and the 718B this weekend, and was told the 718C wouldn't be announced until around September and wouldn't be available until Nov/Dec.

two days later, the announcement has been made but i phoned them earlier and still no one has any info... one source (some american website) says that deliveries will start in Europe in Summer and in Nov/Dec in the USA.

anyone have any reliable info on this?
