718 review - test drove today
Discussion
Call me mad, but I recently bought a brand new VW Beetle turbo 2.0 and decided to keep my 986 as a second fun car instead of buying a brand new 718.
Will probably update my 986 to a used 911 soon by keeping two cars, but if porsche is gonna make 4 cylinders rather than 6, I would go out and buy a more reliable + affordable every day car and keep the fun on the older versions

Haha cor you lot like an argument don't you?
I only said I prefer a n/a 6 to a turbo 4 and I come back to a debate about house prices and Audi TT's. Having had a few days to think about it, despite its good points, I have absolutely no burning desire to get back in a 718 and it has if anything just made me even more appreciative of what great cars the 987 and 981 boxsters/caymans are.

I had a look at a yellow 718 Boxster in the flesh today at Cambridge OPC (hate those launch nights, so popped in the next day so orange wives don't get in the way).I agree, they look much nicer in the metal....I think the revised rear spoiler configuration works very well.
As you say, pity the 2.7 6 has gone....but as a 30K miles per year new car buyer, I don't have many options available to replace my 981 C 2.7 with a self imposed £45K budget.
And, no.....Audi TTS is not an option!

True. I would be gutted right now if I wanted a new 2-seater for daily use.
To be honest ORD, I don't really want to own 2 cars...but I am seriously considering keeping the 981 C 2.7 and putting it on 'light' duties, whilst running a VW Golf R or BMW 235i as a daily.I just hate owning 2 cars

I agree but this really is not a good barometer for the future of porsche sports cars.
As a londoner, I know you could stick a Porsche badge onto a pile of horse droppings and sell it in central london. They will literally buy anything.
Porsche will get it right eventually with the 781.
When have they ever put a foot wrong recently though? Maybe its "us" that are wrong? They have just made a PDK GT3 thats trading ridiculously over list when apparently everyone only wants manuals. Only people that post on pistonheads want a manual. And speculators. The rest of us have a PDK As a londoner, I know you could stick a Porsche badge onto a pile of horse droppings and sell it in central london. They will literally buy anything.

I have thought of that route...especially since the warranty period has been extended. My only issue is, I run my cars through my business, and these old cars have serious tax implications...I am not just talking about road fund licence! Compare a 997.2 to a 2.7 981 for 40% bracket earner.....anonymous said:

 In 2014-15 October - December (Quarter 3), local authorities sold 3,285 dwellings under the Right to Buy scheme. Local authorities in London accounted for 33 per cent of sales in 2014-15 Q3; this is the second highest percentage recorded since quarterly statistics became available in 2006-07 Q. last year local authorities received c£247 million from Right to Buy sales, the average receipt per dwelling in 2014-15 Q3 was £75 thousand, although you can easily amass up to a 70% discount on current value based on number of years at residence
TV headline is £1m, but plenty in london beyond £0.5m, to the original point, plenty of people on an average wage can accumulate the funds to buy a £65k Porsche :P

To be honest, I tend to lose the plot with alot of these Porsche threads!! (some bloke test drives a 718...and were picking the bones out of house price increases ). All I will say is, once you've paid your mortgage off (as I did some years ago), you would be amazed how little money you need to earn to have flexability with investments and turning over houses/cars etc. to make real money....without other funding other than mortgages (which of course, most average wage earners have!).
