Yellow looks awesome on Caymans. The red mock up above also looks good.

Dull colours really are a waste of a beautiful car (in my opinion, which is correct).

I'm more than happy for you to photoshop them. I'm fancying GT Silver myself. Love the Miami Blue but it pains me to fork out £1800 for a colour! Yes, I'm a tight Northerner. biggrin

A bit premature for me as I plan on waiting for GTS Boxster but my head (and wife) is saying Agate Grey, my heart ( and brother in law!) is saying Miami Blue. I am in Silverstone on 30 June and hope the Miami Blue cars are there for me to see colour " in the flesh" . One other factor is that I fancy Graphite Blue (possibly two tone with crayon) interior and I think this works better with Miami Blue. Oh what a lvely dilemma . At least I have a long time to ponder !!!

But that's only valid for a few people like us who actually give a crap. For everyone else they could have kept the F6 (ETA: NA F6), not had to invest mega money in dev costs and carried on as usual. 911s sell by the bucket load compared to Caysters anyway, all they've done is massively erode their margin on the Cayster with all the new R&D costs. Not sure forcing a few people like us to cough out for a 911 is going to make up for that.

Not sure that's right. Isn't the flat 4t just the flat 6t with two fewer cylinders and worse an inferior turbo that is probably just bought in?

It's made-up journalistic bullst that idiots swallow. Everyone has a vague understanding that turbo means more torques or something and they trot it out. The F6 (except in 2.7 form) was not lacking in torque in any meaningful sense. The engine in my car (3.8 997.2) generates loads of torque in any meaningful rev range, and that is comparing it to smaller turbo engines.

But they still had to develop the F6T to start with. My overarching point is that they should have left turbos alone for the 9x1.2 and gone hybrid for the gen after.

The other chestnut is when journos bang on about some diesel engine having the same torque as a Ferrari or some such as if its remotely relevant. It's bloody meaningless when in any given gear, the diesel gearing will be about 40% longer than the car they're comparing it to.

I agree with that. I was just making the point that the Cayman/Boxster will not have carried massive independent R&D costs. As ever, Porsche has used 911 R&D budgets to produce parts that (with modification) will work in the cheaper cars. The 911 is so expensive partly because that's where Porsche claws back the bulk of the development costs for all of its sports cars.

The Caysters are great value because they piggyback on the 911.

I'm not sure about hybrid tech aside from very light motors fed from regen braking. But I wouldnt want AWD to become standard, which it probably would. And I wouldn't want the hybrid tech to mean 4 cyl engines in 911s, which it might. I see the only real advantage of electric tech being the capture of otherwise wasted energy on deceleration. If that can be done without sacrificing brake feel and progressiveness, that's cool. But that seems to be quite difficult to achieve from what I have read. I find a lot of supposedly excellent brakes awful and 'on/off'.

what's the torque at 4K revs over the BMW GTS ?

That's the issue for Porsche now they have gone turbo they lack the pace of cars £30k cheaper even though a bogo 911 laps the ring the same as a 991 GT3 !!

Torque is key now in modern cars, to be on the same playing field or to even stand a chance on track you need Torque out the bends.

The new 718 will be a great road car for 99.9 % of people.

Utter tripe.

The kind of people who drive around at 1800 revs and accelerate in 5th gear are not the kind of drivers that need more than 250 'torques'. They never use more than half throttle anyway.

I find the idea that there are people who want to drive very fast indeed but cannot change down a gear completely ridiculous. A mixture of a pootling granny and a racing driver. There is no such thing.

All these cars are autos anyway, so if the moron just stamps on the accelerator, the car will put him in the right part of the rev range in milliseconds.

Boggo Porsches have never been fast compared to turbo performance cars that are much cheaper. And it's never been a problem for selling them.

Anyone who thinks a 997 or 991.1 lacks adequate pace for our roads is either just trotting out pub talk rubbish or drives at licence losing speeds constantly. I can get a few seconds of WOT in my car before it's threatening my licence.

Exactly... It's not like it's a 1 litre Mirca/Corsa etc.. I do genuinely find this struggle through traffic with the 3.4 baffling. Anyone care to help me understand what they mean? Straight question.

And Mario, I wouldn't have thought you were having a pop.

At the risk of completely derailing the thread.

This question is aimed at cmoose or anyone who would like to answer, what are you thought’s and feelings on the 991.2 compared to the 981 CTGS? As I have been wondering about an upgrade next year or do I go the whole way and pay over the odds for a GT3?

I would suggest the 991.1 Carreras morphed into more sports GT than sports car following the 997.2 Carreras replacement.

The GT3 v 981 GTS really are chalk and cheese but the 981 would be a smart purchase and good value for money imo....not that many good spec cars around and last of a line should ensure relatively cheap and involving motoring.
