Porsche911R/MrD/Gt4 or whatever you are c alling yourself ths week!! If you look at the other lively 718 thread, PDK is outnumbering manual by 4 to 1. So people are clearly are not fed up witth autos. I would no longer consider a manual. You are getting very boring - change the record please. Different strokes for different folks !

Someone on this thread earlier said he found the 718 to be very wide. Just had a dig through my old brochures and find 718 is exactly same width (excluding mirrors) as 981 which was same as 987 which was only 21 mm wider than 986. So a growth of just under 1 inch in 20 years. Wish I could say the same about my waist!

Yes but all of them are humungously wide - about 6" over an Elise and about a foot over a Caterham S3 ( and only a little more over early 911s). When it comes to size width (especially) and wheelbase are the key figures.bcr5784 said:

That Caterham is a 60-year old wheelbarrow with an engine in it.Check out the 1975 Lotus Esprit - at 73" wide.

Having driven an Esprit, I don't need to. Caterham a "Wheelbarrow?" - Can't relate to that, never found wheelbarrows much fun. Caterham is easily the most fun (roadable) car I've driven. (Radical is damn good but barely roadable). Both make my 981 feel like a Thames barge (I'm a big fan of Caymans - but an Elise or Caterham is, for me, much more engaging, if more compromised).Check out the 1975 Lotus Esprit - at 73" wide.

If you're happy going out on the road in a 60-year old car which can't be sold in most global markets because it's so outdated - that's absolutely fine by me.The world moves on, and we have to enjoy our 981s as best we can! I just love mid-engined cars.

60 year old or not a Caterham is dynamically far more engaging than any(?) Porsche (imo). Has to say something either about Chapman's genius or the state of the current consumer market. I'm not sure about mid-engine being the best way forward for road cars, as opposed to race cars. Having owned a Europa, Elise and 981, and driven lots more - the balance you get with a front MID engined car (ie on where the engine is within the wheelbase) seems the way to go. Much is said about the lower polar moment of inertia of midengined cars - but I would be astonished if a 981 matched (or got close to) a Caterham in that regard - a Caterham has - unlike a 981 - little fore or aft of the wheels.The world moves on, and we have to enjoy our 981s as best we can! As for paying over the odds...... The first people who bought it made money..... I'm not in that position, but now I have one I'll hopefully get the new one when it gets released.
The way I see it, I bought my boxster for 60k and in 3 years would probably sell it for 40k..... I bought my gt3 for 137000 in 3 years I'll get over 117000 for it.... Unless the economy collapses.. Therefore even though I'm laying over the odds for a car, I'm probably going to loose less money on it then I would a 981 gts, and therefore does it really matter the cost of entry if you have the money

Indeed, looks an awful lot better than the Boxster I've seen at the OPC. Very clean lines on the Cayman and the colour suits it very well. The LED headlights also help differentiate it from the older cars, they look really good even when turned off but at what cost.
I'm praying they'll keep the N/A around for the 718 GT4, should be absolutely epic.

However, there are a number of others which are of a lesser spec which are listed for even more but id rather buy from a OPC where possible. What's the price of entry for one of these? As I had around the 135K mark in my head.
Wait until the 991.2 GT3 is unveiled. I think it will soften the 991.1 GT3 prices quite a bit as the rumours are that it will be a significant step up (competing with turbocharged brethren) and available as a manual. I don't think prices like that are a good entry point at the moment. All IMHO of course.
