718 Cayman Spec & Colours- what have you gone for?
Discussion
I've spec'd it; it's a silly amount of money but...
I like that it give the chrono/clock on the dash which breaks things up a bit, I like the fact you now get a wheel mounted selector, and can also have a personal setup.
Having said that I have gone for PASM so there are more connotations to cover. It also brings dynamic engine mounts for what thats worth....
Lets be honest, many of the extras we could all do without, each to their own!
"Sport Chrono Package including mode switch with: dynamic transmission mounts; analogue and digital stopwatch; mode switch on the steering wheel for selecting driving modes Normal, SPORT, SPORT PLUS and Individual; SPORT PLUS mode for performance-oriented tuning of engine and transmission; Individual mode for personalised selection of a range of sporty vehicle settings; throttle-blip downshifts in SPORT and SPORT PLUS mode; performance display; sports performance shift indicator on the colour screen in the instrument cluster (for manual transmission only). Additional performance display in conjunction with navigation module for PCM: PSM Sport mode. Additionally in conjunction with PDK: SPORT Response button for fingertip activation of performance-oriented engine and transmission setups; activation of Launch Control (racing start) and motorsport-derived gearshift strategy in SPORT PLUS mode"

Regarding sport chrono, when I eventually come to ordering, I intend to spec it because as far as I'm aware it also brings "rev matching" on downshifts on a manual equipped car. I don't consider myself a Ph driving god so it's a nice (presuming it can also be turned off) have while still learning the car.
If I was going for PDK, I'd be tempted to leave it off for that reason, although as you say, I agree that it breaks up the dash nicely and the dial on the wheel is a nice touch which enhances that "special" car feeling.

Bugger. Seems this rev-matching auto-blip thing only comes with Sport Chrono, and not with the standard sport button on the console, for a manual 'box. I NEEDS IT.Feck it. Every week an additional option is going on my planned spec

Its deffinatly nice to have, although you cant over ride it so people who can heal and toe might not like it, as much as i love the satisfaction of getting the downshift on point, i love it. The wife also loves it as she cant heal and toe but loves the re-match noise win win. Feck it. Every week an additional option is going on my planned spec

Is that for sure? I'm surprised its not something you can turn off through the "individual" setting on the sport chrono dial.It seems odd that Porsche would leave something like that in that can't be turned off given that most "hardcore" drivers would inevitably spec manual plus sport chrono for track days etc!

Thanks for the responses guys.
OPC is Hatfield. They have been really good this time around as they dropped the ball last time around and I ended up going to Cambridge. I put my deposit down in June.
RE sport chrono - I kind of think it's pretty cool, but do you think it's completely useless for road use. No plans for track. In all honesty on my extended test drive I did just stick it in sport as you lose the obligatory pops and bangs in sport plus. I did notice however that the gear shifts were noticeably quicker than in my current 981 2.7.
I have neither rain sensors or climate control currently and sometimes do miss them as even my old 118d had these as standard.
Thoughts...?
The 981 Boxster PDK my OPC loaned me for a day and a half to try had SC. When I put the car into Sport Plus it just seemed not to want to change up at all. I had no idea why at the time, red lining the engine as it screamed along in 2nd or 3rd gear. Pointless with PDK.OPC is Hatfield. As for manual rev-matching, that's maybe the combination where you'd spec it... on a manual car.
With PDK, even on the base 2.7 981 without SC, when driven in manual mode you get throttle blips when decelerating quickly which has a certain novelty value. For me the "Sport" mode is plenty lively AND still changes up at reasonable revs rather than thinking you're killing the engine when it's in Sport Plus (SC).
And you still have manual mode for when you want to rev it a little higher. Paddles for overtaking, gear stick to the left for full control per a manual but better (once you stop your left leg convulsing in and out!).

Not usually one for lairy colours but the Miami Blue looks hot
Metallic Graphite Blue is clearly the on point classy option
Just a girl's opinion....

I was going for dark blue, but my wife talked me into Carmine Red....

Quite like it ...
I've been set on sapphire blue since the start, but I spent some time yesterday flipping through google images of carmine red. It is a mighty nice colour and really suits the Cayman.
Hmmmm ...
Metallic graphite blue is indeed very classy but I'm personally leaning towards a "bolder" colour.
What are people's thoughts on Guards Red? I like it (as well as the fact its a no cost option saving!) but I do have some concerns around its longevity (in turns of maintenance and potential fade) as well as potential resale.
Carmine red is definitely a consideration but I've come to the conclusion a saving on paint cost could be spent elsewhere on the options list!

Guards red will be fine. If you're concerned about long term paint condition, just use a decent paint sealant 4 times a year. I get 8 application out of a £20 bottle of G Technic C1.5 or whatever it's called this week.
Personally I am now tempted by flat black on a 718 2.0. I know it's a pain to keep clean but I don't care too much. Even the OPC are happy to supply unprepped, ie unswirled.

Got a few days before I need to lock in my spec. Delivery expected first week of November.

Fairly happy with it overall. I'm slightly worried I'll regret not going for an interior with deviated stitching but I'm not sure I could keep the crayon seats clean (and neither of the alternative colour options appeal).
Any thoughts on Sapphire Blue with satin platinum Carrera S wheels? It's what I'm leaning towards so far.

Nice spec, my only thought might be to go for PASM as this works well with sports chrono and 20" wheels . Yet more money on extras !! Difficult to know with wheel choice as you really need to see them in the flesh. I was looking at the same wheel and colour on a Graphite Blue car but decided that the they blend in to the car too much so have decided on Carrera classic.http://www.porsche-code.com/PHICIN64
