I've coming from a 4 series aswell , I think i'm skipping connect plus I think it would be nice initially but something I could easily live without
I see a tonne of BMW drivers interested in the Cayman. See it on the BMW forums, huge amount of owners test driving the Cayman and putting in orders. I'll have to wait another year on my PCP but I'll be looking to order next year hopefully....I really like the car, always loved Caymans but I've stuck with BMW for 16 years. Time to make the change I think.

A question for those who have ordered from Porsche, do the dealers try and push certain colours and combinations on you with a view to the resale? Especially if you're buying on a PCP plan?
Dealer pushed Sports Chrono which I initially wasn't interested in but then I took out a Cayman with it and no way am I not taking that. The Business Manager was pushing Connect Plus and Apple Pay on the basis of future capabilities but you can't sell on roadmap unless you're willing to share what that roadmap is so i'm reluctant to part with any money there.

I'd be inclined to get full leather interior, sport chrono pack, Sports Seats, PASM, heated seats, cruise control, folding mirrors, Connect, 20in rims, PDK, light package and front and rear park assist. I think what would save me from the dealer having a whinge? I have to say if I was speccing all that and the dealer was still trying to push Sat Nav or anything else on me I'd be very unimpressed. All of the above will be circa €20K over here.

What is the difference between the standard aircon and the climate control? Is there still a digital display with standard aircon? And I'm not going for PSE as it's expensive and I'm not sure it's a must have.

I was very honest with my Salesman and asked him to point out things in his position would be beneficial come resale ... not that it bothers me as I'm not looking for resale ... but I was interested.

I was absolutely fixed on manual - he says that most (90+%) will be PDK nowadays; which will differentiate mine in the future. Then in no particular order his core options: Sport Chrono; PSE; 20 inch wheels; full leather; nav; seat heating; BOSE. The rest is down to personal preference. As I said in an early post, he didn't push climate control which I was most surprised about also I was quite keen on PASM and he was actually trying to dissuade me. So it is quite a minimal specification really, I liked the fact that he wasn't pushing a big spec.

I have specced all the above apart from cruise control and connect. I have had cruise control on my last 3 cars and never use it and as for connect see above. I have also added PSE and PTV and a few other things. Cruise Control is set and forget , not having to adjust dials etc and to me I think come resale that will be important. Irrespective I want it anyway and I wouldn't buy a car without.

Cruise control is effectively useless on this country's crowded roads.

The only times I use it is on long road trips to France, where you get mile after mile of little or no traffic. I spec it for that reason alone.

Hi Folks

I am next in line to place an order for a Cayman S at my local OPC. I was told before Xmas that they had received their first 2 months of 2017 allocations - 3 x Cayman S and I thought that I would now be locking down my spec hopefully for a March build. But I have since been told that the factory move is delaying builds and that they are still working on December cars and I might not get a build slot now until June!!!

What have others heard from their OPC?

My spec (tbc)

Cayman S
Sapphire Blue
Graphite Blue Leather
Sports Seat + 18 way - they are more generous in the shoulders
Seat Heating
PDLS
Park Assist
Folding Mirrors
PDK
PSE - Silver Pipes
Power Steering +
PASM
Sports Chrono
20" Carrera S
Light Design - Mrs wanted that
Auto Dimming and washers
Bose
Connect

I ordered in July 2016, and got a May 2017 build slot. Approaching 20 customers ordered after me, but I guess some of them will have cancelled, so June would be optimistic at my local OPC unless they are getting a huge allocation in May. Should settle down over the next few months, but it's a long wait for a build just now.

I've eventually got my lock down date in the middle of February for build in April and delivery in early may (ordered in the middle of August), so I've got to make some decisions.
I'm going for a standard Cayman with the following options. Feedback would be useful particularly on the options I'm not sure about.

Colour Night blue or GT Silver
Interior leather Black /crayon (if blue) or Black (if silver)
Wheels 20" carrera s (if blue) or 20" Carrera sport (if silver)
Sports seats 14 way electric
Deletion of model designation
Standard lights
Park assist front and rear with camera
Folding mirrors
Trim strips in high gloss (if blue)
PDK
PASM
Power steering plus
64 litre tank
Cruise control
Lane change assist
Auto dimming mirrors
Light design package
Home link
Heated multifunction steering wheel
2 zone climate
Seat heating
Seat ventilation
Smoking package
Passenger footwell net
Steering column casing in leather
Navigation
Digital radio
Connect plus

So just need the colour
Help appreciated

Exactly the same as you - I ordered Wilmslow and was told 4th in the queue for an S when ordered in November - originally said March now saying June "hopefully"

Night Blue.

Silver does nothing for the Cayman IMHO. I'd also take a few less options and an S myself...

What does your spec come to pricewise?

Thanks for the advice on colour. I take your point on buying an S with less kit, but I'd probably just spec it up and end up paying the extra.
The build comes to just over £56k

I'm the other way to Edo and really like the GT Silver - go with your gut feel the car looks great in most if not all colours and everyone is going to have a different opinion

I had originally placed a deposit for a Cayman in September with a projected build for 1Q17 but then drove the S at the start of November and changed my order so went to the back of the queue which I thought was a bit rich as I didn't appreciate that there were separate build schedules for the Std and S. Luckily there were only 3 in front of me which have now been allocated.

You do get a few extra options and upgrades with the S so by the time you spec up a like for like Std vs S the price difference isn't as great as it first appears.

That and the extra power in the S convinced me anyway - I'm only going to do this once (mind life crisis) so might as well do it right!! And the Mrs has also said get what you want otherwise you will always wonder what if....................!!!

No I haven't. I just assumed that it was really light at low speed and that it switched off as speed built up. What wouldn't I like about it?]
