718 Cayman Spec & Colours- what have you gone for?

But at least in the 718 you beat the Astra off the lights
You reckon? That was another issue in the TTS. Sit next to someone at the lights. Foot down hard and that momentary bogging down whilst the turbo woke up lost me the advantage time and again.
The 981 just gets on with it, especially in Sport mode with the "handbrake" auto releasing.
If you're testing a 718 try a full throttle start away from the lights and report back?

Clearly did not try this during my dealer-accompanied test drive. In an attempt to avoid Launch Mode I wonder whether the new Sports Response Mode (20 secs of mayhem) would ensure the turbo is spooled up and ready to go? I will give it a go at the PEC Silverstone when I am up there.
Sport response doesn't do anything in the way of spooling up the turbo prior to a launch as far as I could tell - seemed a bit of a non-event. Maybe I was missing something.Attended the PEC at Silverstone yesterday. Tried the launch mode a number of times. The car ( 2 ltr. ) was very fast. Steering, handling, brakes on wet and dry surfaces were just outstanding. Great fun and very impressed. As far as the dial on the steering wheel ? well you could feel the change as you were driving, but it would not be something I would think of engaging on a daily basis.

Was that with Sport Chrono, i.e. launch control?I'm not sure how useful LC would be in daily driving. I never used it once in the TTS due to a) thinking something would break and b) the fandango of setting it all up and getting half way through this when the lights turn green.
Did you try it from standstill, full throtte, without LC?
The only way LC could spool the turbo up is to build up boost pressure using throttle against the brake. That's OK with a torque converter auto (effectively with a fluid clutch) - but I wouldn't expect the clutch on a PDK box to last long with that sort of use. Given the expense of replacing the clutch (complete exchange gearbox) I think you would need deep pockets if you were to make a habit of it.

I expected a great day, but the set up they have at Silverstone just blew my mind. Also my wife spent some time out in the car. She also came back in knocked out by the day. Just wonderful, your going to love it.no pics?

Agree about LC,but it works if you wanted to use it. Yes, full throttle from standstill without LC was fast and I loved the sound.I'm not sure how useful LC would be in daily driving. Good to hear you had a great day by the sound of it.Edited by Dyffed on Tuesday 14th June 15:55
Talking of sound I'm with you on liking it having tried an S without pse. It's certainly not an f6 which I enjoyed in a boxster for 3 years and 60,000 miles a few years ago but it has got a character of its own and while I can see why some don't like the concept and or sound I think that the knocking has gone a bit far at times.
Mine is in transit I'm told and due first or second week of July. Any news on yours?

I'm still buzzing from Monday. Its the first thing I mentioned to my wife when I got up this morning. It was brilliant. I loved the sound under acceleration. I was thinking it was just me. Had a 986 for 14years and sold it on here in March. Never did anything like averaging 20,000 per year. I agree 100% with your comments. Tonbridge Porsche emailed me Monday last week with the news that my car is now built and should arrive in a couple of weeks. Received another email this Monday stating that it should be here within 10 days. Might be on the same transporter? Talking of sound I'm with you on liking it having tried an S without pse. Could I just clarify something from those above who have 718 Caymans arriving in July?
Have I missed the Cayman OPC launch? It seems only a few weeks back that the Boxster was launched?
Confused???
I can see why you may be confused. You have not missed the Cayman launch. The cars arriving in July are Boxsters. I think the first Caymans are due in September.Have I missed the Cayman OPC launch? It seems only a few weeks back that the Boxster was launched?

Thanks for all the helpful replies guys. Appreciated.
Sent a request off to Porsche in Chiswick, but missed the salesman's call as I was in a meeting. Will look to head out there later this week and see what's what. Hopefully seal a deal and put down £3k.
So spent the afternoon at Porsche Chiswick. Let myself get schmoozed by the perfectly pleasant salesman. Took a spin in a bright frickin yellow 718 Boxster S. And signed on the dotted line for a 718 Cayman S.Sent a request off to Porsche in Chiswick, but missed the salesman's call as I was in a meeting. Will look to head out there later this week and see what's what. Hopefully seal a deal and put down £3k.

Should be shipped toward the end of November, so quite a wait.
Happy camper here though.
Oh, and I took a quick snap of the yellow 718 Boxster S on me phone, which I'll post up here in a bit. It turned heads cruising round West London, and a bunch of little schoolkids all stared and shouted WHOA as we burbled by. Not a subtle car!
