I recently test drove a manual base Boxster 718 with sport chrono and to be honest apart from the auto blip, I didn't really see the point. I couldn't really tell the difference between sport and sport+ if I'm being perfectly honest. I am hopefully going to test drive a Cayman S with PDK in the coming weeks, which I assume will have sport chrono (the car was not at the dealer when I last visited).

With PDK and sport chrono, I take it in sport+ it will change up at the red line in auto and that's the main difference? Research tells me that sport chrono is popular with PDK and almost considered essential but how often do people use sport+ mode?

The car I drove also did not have PASM and whilst it was firm, it was perfectly acceptable to me. I had the car for a couple of hours and drove on a mix of A, dual carriageway and B roads so I got a good idea of how the standard suspension behaved.

Think this combo looks really smart, I've read reviews saying the flat black is prone to swirl marks but I would get the car coated with gtechniq so would flat be ok protected with that?

Hello folks,

What do the brotherhood think about the following Spec? Trying to keep the cost down on a 718C, as it is very easily to go crazy with options as we all know. I drove a 2.0 manual and loved the way it drove, involving, but not silly fast like the S. Definitely would prefer a manual over a PDK as it is a weekend car (I drive a BMW i3 as a daily!). Standard seats would be my first choice oddly as I found them very comfy and the alcantara seems to last well (had this and leatherette on a SEAT Cupra).

I'm in two minds about yellow with the yellow belts and dials, or white with red bits.... Black with silver bits would be another approach (a la Cayman R 987), but solid black is surely a no no for resale.

Although impossible to rationalise it try and separate functional extras (where Porsche are a bit stingy) from aesthetic extras (which is personal taste which varies)

Functionally I would add climate control - the standard system is old school turn a fan to get air con and no temperature fixing (I didn't think many cars have this now but the standard model does). Personally I wouldn't bother with the folding mirrors. You might want to add DAB for future proofing in case they turn the analogue signal off

I'm not a fan of the yellow but do like the stronger colours (I went for Guards Red) rather than the neutrals (like black/white/silver/grey) so if you want it go for it and if you do the outside you might as well colour code it inside

Dab is standard now, but I see what you're saying about climate. Not interested in seat heat (it won't be used in the winter salt which is the only time my bum won't be warm!)

So, Guards with Red details, or White with Red details inside then. Maybe the flying banana would be a step too far!

Has anyone specced the black rear spoiler? I'm kinda keen on painting the other exterior bits gloss black too.. Black door handles is an odd option when they don't offer gloss black mirrors I thought!

i would not buy a car without seat heating if it had leather, so for the small price it costs, I would add for resale.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Racing yellow with yellow dials & seat belts is a winner. An absolute winner.

I wasn't quite ballsy enough to go for yellow meself, so total respect for anyone who does. Think they look great!

Black spoiler must be a new option, pretty sure it wasn't there when I specced mine. Not seen any images on t'net of it either.

Anyways. Exterior black bits would contrast brilliantly with yellow. wink

Indeed, but I'm all about the Alcantara! Second choice would be Sportex. lick

I was originally going to leave the heated seats (I'm going alcantara too), it in the end i thought it'd really annoy me having those massive blank switches at the front of the gear lever where the heated seat switches go. Sounds daft but my OCD is a bit like that.

Rest of spec looks good. I'd personally add sport chrono although plenty would disagree with me. I drove two manuals back to back, one with SC and the other without and I can't quite put my finger on it, but the SC one felt smoother for quick progress which I'd imagine is down to the dynamic engine mounts?

Spotted Guards red with some gloss black options - including door handles and side air intakes - looked very nice (to me) - with SportDesign package. Dark tail lights integrate well too.

I personally think Gloss black wheels are a bit lost, satin pref. Black door handles just look st, I have no idea why you would pay to do that.

Love that Guards red with gloss black 20" wheels. Exactly same as my specs, but I'd leave the rear light as standard and debadge the model name.

Agree about the lights...they don't look OEM.

Hi all, long time lurker first time poster here smile I think I've read this entire thread 3 times now laugh

I placed my deposit for a 718 CS in February for delivery in September and had my Porsche Experience this Tuesday and was seriously impressed! The main objective was to check that I definitely wanted a manual, I sold my PDK 981 GTS last year and thought it was time to go old school again .... turns out I just didn't enjoy the manual as much as I expected to! I didn't think the box felt as good as the short throw one I had in my first 987, and the clutch was really light. I guess that's good for a daily driver but I felt I extracted more from the PDK car on track and ultimately enjoyed my time in the PDK car more.

I was also dead set on either Miami Blue or Carrera White before I arrived at Silverstone but having seen Lava Orange in the flesh I've changed my order today. Current spec :

Lava Orange
Black Leather Interior
718 Logo painted Black
Tinted Taillights
Park Assist Front and Rear
Bi-Xenon PDSL in Black
PDK
Sports PASM
Sports Chrono
Sports Exhaust in Black
20" Carrera Sport wheels in Black
GT Steering Wheel
Sports Seats Plus
Two Zone Climate Control
Seat Heating
ISOFIX
Interior Package Painted
Bose

... welcome any thoughts! I had to cut costs somewhere so no auto wipers, it'll be a fair weather car anyway. I can't wait to reach lockdown as I'm sick to death of fumbling around on the configurator on an iPad until god knows what time in bed every night!!

Keep the pics coming guys, loving seeing what people have gone for,

Cheers

Simon

Smoking package to tidy up the centre console by getting rid of the cubby hole at the end?

As you're blacking a lot of stuff out maybe consider painting the headlight washers as they'll be the only bit of chrome, other than the Porsche logo on the back. That said, it's strange that can't be painted black anyway.

Hi Pinball, I double checked about the washers, when you select the Bi-Xenon Black PDSL you don't get washers at all, strange! Spoke to my salesman today and he said the lights are the same spec as the normal PDSL Xenon's.

Hadn't thought about the cubby hole, I'll get that cover added!

I don't think that's right. If you go on the 3D configurator and select those lights you get the washers. I'm getting the normal PDLS and they definitely have the washers. The standard lights aren't full fat xenons so don't have washers but as far as I know it's a legal requirement to have washers on proper xenon lights.
