Thanks for that Andrew, I'll try and stick to those guidelines.

Reckon a GT4 would look lovely in Crayon, my dealer has told me he should be able to get me a GT4 or Spyder and I'd struggle not to go for the same colour again if that comes off!

Cheers

I have seen the computer images on the configurator but i haven't seen a real life picture of a GT Silver with High Gloss black wheels.

I also chose the Sports Chrono following a test drive where it seemed really fun, I'm sure its something i wont use it much though.

I have been quoted November for delivery how realistic does this sound from everyones experience?

Cheers

Well I'm still waiting for a car I ordered last October after two misorders. That said there may well be more allocations and quicker build times now if they've sorted the factory move/retooling which held things up previously. I would take it with a pinch of salt.

November ... wow , I was told it was still 12 months when I went in last. I'll ask when I'm in there a week on Thursday see what they say. Mines at dealer now ordered in November last year.

I hope it doesn't drag in much longer than that as I'm selling my own car private.

If you're getting a November build slot I would suspect that the cut off date for spec must be soon. I would get it confirmed by dealer and the decide what you're doing based on that. I would also see if anyone else has been promised such short leads - maybe the factory is retooled and all is good but i'd be wary given I was told March from November order and I will get it 1st September.

I have been without a car for the past month and a half as I sold mine too - been using the Mrs's Seat Ibiza which is one of the worst cars i've ever driven and the interior is really cheap. So I can't wait until 1st

Haha your certainly going to feel extra power and comfort when you collect yours then!

The dealer has asked me to confirm now to prevent it getting delayed so im sticking to my choice, my only concern now is if i should have gone for Black Satin finished wheels or High gloss? Is anyone able to photoshop a GT silver Cayman with Black Satin Finish Carrera S and High Gloss black Carrera S wheels? they both look the same on the configurator.

Has your dealer not got cars with satin and high gloss for you to compare?

Current trend seems to be satin black, I personally don't care for them as they never look particularly clean without the shine you get from gloss black. But plenty of people see that as a bonus as high gloss shows the dirt and dust much more!

If I was you I'd go for the Carrera Sports in high gloss black, the silver rim would look great with GT Silver and the biggest bonus is being able to get my hand all the way in between the spokes to clean behind biggrin

I have black satin and GT silver on my 911 and think it works really well - I was doubting the choice right up to delivery but black satin goes better with the various bits of black plastic on the car in my view (but I think there is more black plastic on a 911?). Ideally you need to see them in person - gloss is too shiny for me but colour is very personal.

Hi All,

I am new to this forum but I have been following this thread whilst specking my new 718 Cayman. I have now placed my order for the below spec, I wanted to keep below £50k so I've left the interior as standard.

The biggest challenges I faced was choosing the colour and gearbox, after test driving both I found the PDK much more enjoyable as the manual felt very similar to my current manual TTS. I have currently added sports Chrono but i still haven't decided if this is necessary......i would welcome any thoughts, I won't be doing track days.

GT Silver
20" Carrera S Alloys in High Gloss Black
PDK
Sports Chrono
718 Logo
Guards Red Seat Belts
Smokers Package

I have struggled to find images of a car similar to the above, does anyone have a spec like this?

Chris
I've got a manual mk3 TT at present and the manual in the Porsche is night and day better in my opinion.

After testing a manual base and a PDK S I decided on a manual base (no sport chrono). After doing my PEC, I think I finally 'get' PDK but to be honest, the two handling tracks at the Experience Centre are more ideally suited to a PDK box. Obviously the launch control starts on the straight track were amusing to say the least and actually made me question my choice of manual and at the moment, I'm really undecided. Part of me thinks, "sod it" and just add PDK and sport chrono but I'm questioning whether it is wise to spend £14k in options on the base car and just going for the S instead. I've gone over my initial budget as it is and am thinking of getting colour coded headlight cleaning covers.....etc.

Why add Sport Chrono to PDK? Are you tracking it? Otherwise... pointless imo.

Totally agree but the acceleration/stopping at the pec gave me a huge grin. Launch control etc is a total waste of time on a road car but Porsche sure know how to market their product!!

As I was sat at the briefing at the PEC we were asked how many people were going to be driving a manual. Only two of us put our hands up and as far as I could tell the other bloke was on the full GT experience day. I thought that was quite sad.

I went Sport Chromo because pressing the response button put a massive grin on my face. Worth it for me even if it is a bit gimmicky

Manual is good with the turbo engines for "block shifts", like when you're in 5th, and you want to be in 2nd pretty quickly. I'm glad I chose it. Sports chrono and PDK is a massive grin at PEC, but to be honest, on the road you can make much more reasonable progress than most without it.

I have (internally) questioned my choice of the base car with manual. Would love to accelerate faster at times, but it's very engaging, and couldn't be described as slow. On balance it was a good choice for me.

I went manual, but with Sport Chrono too, mainly for the auto-blip.

If there is one option on my list I'd remove after owning the car for 5 months it is the Sport Chrono. It's expensive for what it is. I don't use the dial as I'm always in Sport mode, or Normal for motorways. So the Sport button on the dash that you get without Sport Chrono is fine for me. The auto-blip is nice but certainly not worth ~£1,400. Same with the clock on the dash, nice, but not worth the money.

In manual too there is no launch control, and the sport response button in the middle of the dial is for PDK only.

In regards to manual, just to add more opinion to your indecision, I am pleased with the choice. It was not a decision I needed to make on speccing up the car. My previous car, and M235i, was the first auto I'd owned - the excellent ZF-8 speed. I didn't gel with auto. I rued the lack of control without a clutch, the inability to block shift and having to jump through 3 or 4 gears to get to the gear I wanted was a constant annoyance.

The manual in the 718CS is excellent, and I'm happy to have the stick and the third pedal again. I feel like I have the control over this most responsive of cars that I need.

Sadly, I decided to cancel my 718 order earlier this week. I was in two minds over the past few weeks and the thought of shipping £60k (it was a cash purchase) on a new car that i'll only drive for 4 to 5k miles a year just seemed pointless.

I'm looking at going 996 C4S route instead and saving myself £40k, which seems more palatable. I also like to tinker with cars and hopefully an older will reignite some of the passion.

I'm just working on getting my deposit back, hopefully won't take too long.

Regarding sport chrono, what everyone forgets is that its not just a a dial on the wheel and launch control. It also includes dynamic transmission mounts.

Whilst I can't tell the difference on a PDK, i drove a manual with sc back to back with a manual without sc.

I could tell the difference straight away. The shifts seem smoother with less accompanying vibration from the engine. Its difficult to explain but I think most drivers would immediately notice if driven back to back. Conversely, if you'd never driven a manual with SC, and only a non SC manual, then you'd be okay I think.

My issue was that I test drive an SC equipped manual prior to the basic manual and so SC was a must (although I do the odd trackday too).

To the poster who regrets speccing it, you should try a manual without it immediately after your own car. I think you'd wonder why it doesn't feel as "sweet" as your own.

Yep, absolutely. I went without it, and then shortly before getting mine I drove one with Sports Chrono at PEC. The rev matching on downshifts gives balance into corners so you can still be on the way down the box on the trail, everything is smoother, and you get the sports mode for stability control that the non SC models don't have. With my one it's either nanny state stability, or everything off.
Probably my only real regret in spec I chose.

I cannot believe it! It's a well-known-fact that any REAL driver would regard auto-blippers as the work of the devil. Odd that almost all high end race cars have them (must be driven by pratts!)......
