Si spotted you going through MacDonalds on the Stratford RD today. First time seen crayon in the flesh. Looks awesome (better than the pics). Just hope it doesn't stink inside now... haa haa
Busted! Popped over to Shirley Aquatics after a speed awareness course this morning and decided a dirty Maccy D's was needed biggrin Thanks Ollie, shame the car is filthy!

Hi all,

Waiting for freeze date on my 718 Cayman and thought I'd post here to get thoughts and help with the excitement.

First car, so loads for me to learn - this site has been really helpful - but known for years that when I got a car, the Cayman would be it. It's probably because I'm a beginner that I haven't added many of the performance type options.

Ordered and paid deposit early August, with build estimated for October and delivery late Oct / early Nov.

Agate Grey Metallic
Sports seats plus black leather
Deletion of model designation
Bi-Xenon headlights with PDLS
Tinted taillights
ParkAssist with camera
Electrically folding mirrors
PDK
64L tank
19 inch Cayman S wheels
Cruise control
Seat heating
Storage net
Bose audio

Cannot wait.

I'm very jealous of your reduced wait time compared to what mine was/is.

Bose: I would want to hear this in the flesh, i've heard very mixed reviews and I thought the base audio was pretty good to be honest. Not great but better than I expected. I nearly added it but the dealer persuaded me that it wasn't worth it.

I listened to the base stereo and thought it sounded pretty crap so specced Bose again. Both of my 981's had Bose but for some reason it sounds awful in the 718, I've spent hours fiddling with it too, there's just no mid range and very little space to the sound.

If I was speccing a car right now I wouldn't bother ticking Bose.

Thanks both. Will see if I get a chance to listen to the standard audio to compare.

On the wait times, yes I was pleasantly surprised but it seemed strange. I checked with a few dealers, but there are two within 30 mins of me. One told me October build, and the other said nothing until Q2 2018.

I suppose either people aren't ringing around, or maybe the dealer with the longer wait is better in some way. Or maybe people just want to maintain their existing dealer relationships.

Anyway I don't really understand but obviously I'm not complaining!

I was in the dealer today and they were of the opinion wait times are just as bad if not worse so I would be double triple checking that you've been set the right expectations for such a quick turnaround

I think it depends where you buy from, I was in Wilmslow last week and they said they're alotted builds per month means they have a 1 year waiting list. I bought mine from Cheshire and was concerned by this so called Cheshire, they said they're a class A dealer and get more builds allotted to them each month and confirmed mine will be built in November. I ordered early August.

Hi guys, my car is due to arrive at the dealership on the 29th September, apparently it has already entered the factory. Anyone have any ideas on how long the car usually stays within the factory? They are expecting it early and I am hoping that with it being in the factory already it is going to be quite a bit earlier smile.

Thanks smile

Back in 2010 (!) I had a build date (Boxster Spyder) 0f 8 March and took delivery on 18 March. Not sure if timescales are still the same but don't see why not!

Interesting , I ordered from Wilmslow I don't know why they would have different classifications maybe someone else would know.

When I ordered from London 1st week of August, they actually had a couple of spare September build slots. Unfortunately the freeze date had past so I couldn't use them. Very surprised there are such big discrepancies between locations.

From looking over their shoulder at the screen, it looked like they had about 8 slots per month if I recall correctly.

Question to those with sport chrono: How do you find operation of the mode wheel? During my PEC the instructor asked me to adjust it whilst driving and I struggled to locate the damn thing, let alone turn it to the right mode or press the little button in the middle!

I find the dial easy to reach, always flicking between Sport and Sport Plus smile

You need to play more computer games, having just one dial to adjust in a real life car is a novelty biggrin

Despite me finding it utterly pointless during my test drive of a 718 CS, I am still considering it if I go PDK. However, I'm still swaying towards manual as I enjoy it more. Nigh on every CS that's appearing used on the Porsche network is PDK and the vast majority of base models are. I couldn't find a manual S for a test drive. Porsche marketing at it's best, swamp the market with PDK and as for the PEC track (and overall) is definitely geared (pardon the pun) towards PDK.

He seems to get on fine with a manual.

I bought a manual S ! As you say not at all common. on my PEC day I drove their silver manual S too so there are a small number around. I know manual is not quite as fast in changing gear but for me this is outweighed by the greater interaction. If I drove in heavy traffic every day the clutch is a little heavy but excellent for normal mixed driving. Ditto when you are at slow speed in sport mode you have to be quite sensitive with the throttle. But after over 9 months and 5000 miles I have no regrets about choosing manual

Another manual 718 CS here. Near 4k and 6 months of ownership, couldn't be happier with the stick and 3rd pedal.

Base model with manual box for me. Just over 3 months and 4500 miles. Last time I looked at the speedometer while pedalling much, I glimpsed 77mph in 2nd gear, so it's not like much gear changing is actually required. No regrets about having more pedals than feet available to press them for me.

I would say you'll see it second or third week of Sep...variable being how long it has to wait at the port for a ship and sometimes takes a few days to reach the OPC once it's arrived in the U.K.

OPC can take a screenshot and show you the expected dates for build completion etc

Same goes for anyone who is ordering a car and has been promised a car later this year. As soon as OPC has your order they will load it up in the system and it will show an expected build date....that can still change a by a week or two thouh (forward or back). Good OPS sales person would send that to you as a matter of course...
