I have just sold my 981 Cayman 2.7 and will be looking to go
718 Cayman with a spec of:
Cayman II alloys
PDK
Rear wiper (my 981 didnt have this but think it is needed)
folding mirrors
black leather seats red inserts
Multifunction steering wheel
Saphire blue or GT silver (always had silver with the 981 in Rhodium Silver) so i have a difficult choice.
Miami Blue looks stunning but may stand out too much for me etc.
Twin exhaust tail pipes. (finishes off the rear quite well in my opinion)
Not test drove a boxster 718 yet but hope it goes and sounds well. (it is a porsche after all)
I have always managed a 'contribution' towards my order and i am very interested to know if there are any deals out there?? forewarned is fore armed.
tentative discussions have only yielded tyre insurance and paint protection.
pm me rather than post re contributions.
thanks!

About to replace my 981 Boxster for either a new 718 Cayman or an M4. I'll be buying via finance and the monthly payments for my chosen spec are within £5 of each other (list price of Cayman (approx £50k) v pretty good discounted deal (approx £60k before discount) I've negotiated with local BMW dealer). Local OPC where I would buy from is well aware of the M4 deal I've been offered. Parting words to me last week were "make sure you come and speak to me before doing anything about the M4, I'm sure there's something we can do". Also, same OPC, different salesman. Chatting while we drove to fill up a 718 before a test drive. I mentioned my reservations about the boring 718 sound. "I'm sure we could chuck a sports exhaust into a deal on a new 718".
Maybe there are deals to be done...?

What sort of monthlies are you getting on an M4 out of interest? Not looked at those yet.

M4 with DCT and HK was my spec. Although after a recent test drive I now fancy the HUD and carbon interior!

Brief figures from local BMW Stealer were £4K deposit, £635pm x4yrs. 10k pa.

The initial monthly was over £750pm. I laughed. Over the course of several days and emails its dropped to £635. biggrin

Probably a bit late now that you have paid the deposit, need to negotiate prior to giving them anything

If your £2k was just to hold a place in the queue you are fine to haggle all you like.

If you have already signed on the dotted line it may be too late...

Right.

Went for a test drive today of course in a 718 since nobody has a Cayman yet.

It was an S, with 20" wheels, PASM and PDK.

Really liked it. In every respect it betters the old car; acceleration, handling, interior, brakes, mid range, Navigation, steering, steering wheel...

Of course the elephant in the room is the engine note; does it sound as good as the 6? No. Does it sound st? No. Can I live with it? Absolutely. I've gone for Sports exhaust; the test car iddnt have it, and still sounded good in sport mode.

Tried not to go mental on the spec, but went with (at the moment) the below, delivery expected Oct/Nov.

Agonised over the wheels; I like the 20" Carreras but the 19" Boster S wheels I like nearly as much and save 700 quid, and should ride nicely. Thoughts?

718 Cayman S

Night Blue Metallic
Sport-Tex leather interior in Black
Deletion of model designation
ParkAssist (front and rear)
Electrically folding exterior mirrors including courtesy lighting
6-speed manual gearbox
Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM)
Sport Chrono Package including mode switch
Sports exhaust system (incl. sports tailpipes in silver colour) Exclusive
19-inch Boxster S wheels
Cruise control
Speed limit display
Automatically dimming mirrors with integrated rain sensor
Light design package
GT sport steering wheel
Heated multifunction steering wheel
Sports seats Plus (2-way, electric)
Two-zone automatic climate control
Seat heating
Smoking package
Navigation Module for Porsche Communication Management (PCM)
BOSE® surround sound-system
Digital radio

They look like 20 inch Carrera S wheels in the picture from the Confounderator...not the Boxster S 19s.

Sorry you are correct, I am actually not going for those I dont like them enough over the 19 Boxsters which will also ride nicer.

Last minute change to Carmine, and adding 18 way memory. Def stopping now!

Was gonna say. Midnight blue. An "interesting" choice. scratchchin

Carmine red is a much more spectacular for this car I think. There was a fabulous-looking Carmine-red 981 Cayman S at the OPC when I was putting my order down. It looks great in that colour methinks.

Your experience reflects mine, also took a spin in OPC's 718 Boxster S demonstrator, with PDK, PASM. But no sports exhaust, so couldn't judge that. The exhaust note did change tone with use of the Sport mode setting though.

Your spec choices are v. similar to mine; going for Manual, Sports Exhaust, Ladypark F&R, PCM, Bose, DAB too. Few other bits. I've gone for the 20" Carrera Classic rims though.
And Sapphire Blue in Colour.
You've specced quite a bit more otherwise than I have in total.

Only thing I'm struggling to decide on is whether to upgrade the headlights or not. Bi-xenon PDSL, LED PDSL+, or leave as standard.
Like the look of the LEDs but at over £1,300 a pop it's pricey.

I just had a conversation with my local Porsche Centre about changing my 981 Cayman S PDK for a new 718 version...

Bought a 997 GTS instead!

Was the right decision for me but appreciate others have different wants / needs.

edo, have you checked what the wheels look like in real life rather than just on the configurator - when speccing up my proposed purchase I looked at those wheels but when I saw them in real life I much preferred the look of the 20s.

Timbola. I was at Silverstone lasr week driving 718 Boxsters and asked the instructor about LED lights as like you I like the look of them. His response was that bi xenon were bright enough and that LED were VERY expensive to replace if you have problems . Not an issue for first three years of course

I have specced Bi-xenon PDSL - don't like the nipple cleaners but the lights are much brighter than the standard lights hence the regulatory need for the washers.

Sapphire is an awesome colour, my just departed 991 was Sapphire, but I fancied a change!

If googled lots of images and used the 3d mode on the configurator. I find the "openings" a bit too big on them. I dont fancy the turbo wheels as a) they are over 2k, and b) they are part polished which we have on my wifes cayenne and it is a pain in the tits if you mark it!
