Nice going!

I'm so st at negotiating.

OPC: List price please. Sign here.
Me: ok
I've come to the conclusion the key to getting reasonable discounts is acting like you're not that bothered about the car!

I've always known exactly what I've wanted in the past and rushed headlong into the dealer to throw my money at them, getting a crap deal to boot.

This is the first car purchase where I wasn't rushing because I genuinely couldn't decide which car I wanted (M4 or 718). Over a period of 6 weeks and about 8 phone calls BMW kept coming back to me constantly improving their offer on the M4 (finally knocking almost £20k off list) and Porsche "wanted to do a deal" when they knew I was serious about leaving them for a BMW.

My patience, or more like indecision ended up saving me some cash. scratchchin

Although I've only previously bought one car from my OPC I have a pretty good relationship with them. I didn't expect any discount/deal to be honest with the 718 being so new. However, went with a different salesman to the usual guy I deal with to put some fuel in their Boxster demo before a test drive. Got talking about me fancying the PSE, "I'm sure we could chuck one into a deal" says salesman. Hmmm, interesting.

I'd also been very honest with OPC that I'd been offered a sweet deal on an M4. When I returned the Boxster demo my usual sales guy says "don't do anything about the M4 until you speak to me. I'm sure we can work out a deal on a Cayman".
Hmmm, more interesting.

Finally, another poster on here (can't remember his name but a nice bloke from Barnsley who I now owe a beer) mentioned his local OPC offered a £2000 discount the moment he mentioned buying a 718.

Abridged version of the ordering process...
OPC: List price please. Sign here.
Me: Erm, no.
OPC: List price for Cayman but we'll give you £1600 of GAP, tyre cover, SMART etc for free.
Me: Nah, mate of mine been offered £2000 off list. But I do want tyre cover.
OPC: Ok, £2000 off inc tyre cover.
Me: Chuck in some Porsche goodies (got a £100 fleece and a £25 mug last time) and we've got a deal.
OPC: Ok.

Deal done.

Do you mind telling me what dealer this is from? I'm in Northern Ireland and as there is only one Porsche dealer here, getting any sort of discount will be pretty difficult so will probably have to go to England to get it.

Usually depends which "options" boxes are being ticked. Lots of margin in there.

I did my deal with OPC Sheffield. The £2k discount they gave was to match a deal I'd heard about (I really should thank you again Keith!) at OPC Leeds (both owned by JCT600 I believe, so I little local rivalry maybe).

I deal with David Richardson at Sheffield. Top bloke.

Again, it's much easier to achieve discount on options than on the car itself - due to generous margins on the toys.

Good to hear.

When I spec up with OPC before lockdown, my options list will be significantly higher than when I paid deposit on the build slot order and got initial numbers. At least £7k more in fact. I blame this place. rolleyes

Or at least, I'll say I'm tempted by certain options, if they could sweeten the deal.

Been following this thread with interest as I'm getting close to pulling a trigger on an order for a lightly specced 718 Cayman.

However, wondering if some users can help with regard to the supposed price rises due in January?

I had a chat with my local OPC a few days back and brought up the subject of price rises. Having asked about lead times (I ideally would like to take delivery around February next year to coincide with getting rid of my current car), I asked that if I was to place an order before the year end, would I get my price 'locked down'?

He suggested not and said it'd depend on when my build date was allocated. ie. If it was to be built in January, I'd just have to "grin and bare it". Does this seem right?

I'm a bit worried about ordering a car and seemingly having no visibility over what the final price may actually be! Given recent events with the £ taking a bashing, it's something which could potentially be very costly indeed!

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

I believe they can reserve the right to alter the price before delivery, but you would then have the right to cancel with any deposit being refunded.

Thanks, I will give them a go if I don't get any joy from my local dealer.

Has anyone ever had a Porsche is the 'basic' black colour as opposed to the metallic? I always prefer a non metallic black but I've read bad things about the Porsche one and even the dealer told me that its very hard to keep in good condition?

Any idea when discounts for 718 Caymans are likely to be available? Was in my local dealer a few days ago and test drove a 981 base and a 718 Boxster S, both PDK. I actually preferred the 981 overall but wouldn't pay more for a 2 year old car that a brand new one so was going to go with the 718 base. I was quoted 7.3% apr finance as opposed to the 6.9% advertised on the Porsche website for some reason, and was wondering if discounts/dealer deposits are likely to occur anytime in the next year if anyone knows from experience of Porsche with new models?

Thanks,
If the 981 you drove was a Rhodium Silver Cayman with platinum wheels, that's my previous car.

You should be able to buy it for less than the cost of a 718, though you'd have to weigh up the pros and cons, and I can assure you it has been very well cared for during my ownership.

Whether is metallic black or not, it's going to look bad except when it's clean. Mine is basalt Black but I did look at non metallic one too (I bought secondhand) I Personally preferred the non metallic one (colour wise) so I'd go with that if I were you

That was the very one that I drove Pete, absolutely fantastic car and to be honest overall I think I preferred it to the 718 S. I'd be going for a pcp deal and the figures they had on it seemed quite a bit more than a new base 718 which is what made me decide on the new one, however I'm still in two minds, but I really loved that 981 of yours!

I have jet black on my Boxster GTS and its not as bad as you think.

Keep a good polish/wax on it and all it realy needs is a wash every other week.

I looked at Basalt but if you are going black it needs to be Jet as this is pure black.
