Any thoughts on Navigation module for PCM ? Tried it on Boxster S test drive and not very impressed, no where near as good as the BMW professional one on my 330d m sport and not worth £ 1,052 cost. What are update costs like after initial 3 year 'free updates'?

Is it a deal breaker when selling on ? Would probably keep car for a few years so possibly considering not speccing and using my Garmin for which I have a lifetime update service for very little money. Seems that the manufacturers systems become outdated quite quickly.

I know that you can use smartphones which have navigation on but I suppose that you need to spec connect and I don't have an iPhone- still in the dark ages with a trusty blackberry!

I used to have a 520d with pro navigation it's the best I have ever used. My company car is a golf and I have top of the range VW sat navigation. The voice control is useless the navigation graphics look like they are ten years behind. I can only suspect that my new Cayman S will have the same system which is quite frankly useless.

Nobody is close to the current pro nav in BMWs.

I think the new nav module is much better in the 718, but agree a lot of money. You can save quite a bit and not spec nav but spec connect which will give you carplay, which I would think was a good compromise and helpful come resale.

Doesn't car play use your roaming network ?? And therefore wouldn't it be expensive. I looked at it but thought you had to order it with navigation module. I have only speed Navigation to improve residual.

It does use the network yes; dont forget you can download large parts of google maps to your phone, or install maps for various nav apps so you dont use data.

2 types of connect - standard for cars without Nav, and Connect + for cars with that I still cant quite justify 800 for...

We are Porsche customers we are supposed to be ripped off. We are Cuckold car buyers we enjoy paying over the odds for equipment that's standard on any other make.

Are there other major manufacturers who are so spartan in their standard spec as Porche are?

Speccing up for the first time I was amazed that such standard items as automated climate control and rain-sensor wipers were an extra cost. These were bog-standard on most marques ten years ago. It comes across as particularly miserly ...

Not come across any other manufacturer who is this mean on standard spec for a car of this price. Only comparison is with BMW about 30 years ago but they moved on from that strategy many years ago. Really would expect rain sensor, climate control, parking sensors and DAB radio as standard for 50K car!

Mine is scheduled for build in the second week of October having placed my order (3% discount, no finance) back in May. I am in the queue for around October/November for my PEC jolly but in the meantime I have been invited by my OPC to a 718 Cayman Drive Event at Silverstone in September where I get 80 mins in a Cayman...was allowed to take someone else too so SWMBO is joining me.

Placed my order mid-late June, with a mooted early November build slot.

Have not heard a peep from OPC (West London) since I put my £3k down.

Hi guys. I've placed my order - here's my final spec http://www.porsche-code.com/PH62ESZ3 - managed to get about £1300 discount.

Cayman S
Graphite Blue
Satin Black Carrera S wheels
Black/Crayon leather interior
GT Steering Wheel
Sports Seats Plus
PDK
PSE (Black)
Sport Chrono
PASM
Heated seats
Nav
Model deletion
Park Assist (F&R)

Freeze date is 6th Oct and should leave the factory 4th Nov. OPC has advised delivery around WC 21st Nov.

Interesting about the driving event in September. I've just popped my salesman an email. When do you normally receive the PEC invitation? Is that after collection? My current car was a stock model and this is my first factory order.

My understanding is you wont hear from PEC till you have an allocated build date. My OPC is "waiting on allocations". I am nervous this is bks and they are stringing me along, but we will see.

What about...

Auto wipers/dimming mirrors. You'll miss this if you've had them before. Good for resale.
Climate. Ditto above.
Cruise. Good for resale.
Smoking Package - £36 - Ashtray and cigarette lighter in place of the uncovered storage compartment in the front centre console.
Passenger footwell storage net - FOC.

Why Sport Chrono? Are you tracking it? Useless on the road imo.

Dan, When did you put down your deposit and book your build slot?

On the spec, looks good, but completely agree with DJMC.
Climate control and rain-sensor wipers are standard spec on cars these days but Porsche are too stingy to include them, so you'll have to take the ~850 quid hit.
Sport Chrono - agreed it seems useless on the road - useful only for tracking. Without speccing this you'll still get the Sport button on the console to tighten up throttle etc. 1,300 quid saving.
Cruise - worth it for a mere 220 quid
Storage net is a no-brainer.
Ashtray personal choice. I'm not speccing it.

Which OPC was this ?

Clearly your salesman is a great deal more communicative that mine as put down a deposit in May and no indication of delivery date of lockdown date is spite of asking the questions!

Thanks for the responses guys.

OPC is Hatfield. They have been really good this time around as they dropped the ball last time around and I ended up going to Cambridge. I put my deposit down in June.

RE sport chrono - I kind of think it's pretty cool, but do you think it's completely useless for road use. No plans for track. In all honesty on my extended test drive I did just stick it in sport as you lose the obligatory pops and bangs in sport plus. I did notice however that the gear shifts were noticeably quicker than in my current 981 2.7.

I have neither rain sensors or climate control currently and sometimes do miss them as even my old 118d had these as standard.

Thoughts...?
