Hi all. Just thought I would post here my final two ideal spec'ed 718 caymans before I finally decide before lockdown on my order.

I have previously owned a 2008 Cayman s and a 2013 boxster which I sold in May when I placed my 718 deposit.

Anyway on to my preferred specs:

The only real difference is the interior colour - thoughts?

Also still can't decide between flat white and metallic white - thoughts on that too? It's getting so close to order time.

Finally there has been much debate on here and some of it really bhy but they are absolutely fantastic cars to drive.

Thoughts appreciated.

Slightly preferring the two tone red-black interior, but both look good. Red seat belts with all-black interior looks odd however, but personal preferences 'n all that.

Combination of white with satin wheels looks ace.

Spec options - you've ticked all the main boxes, only thing missing is the Auto Dimming mirrors with Integrated Rain sensor, which should be standard but isn't.
Oh, cruise control?

And welcome to PH. smile

I had the auto dimming mirrors and rain sensors on my 981 boxster and found the rain sensor a bit hit and miss, hence why I left it out.

No cruise cause I do next to no motorway driving... All B roads for me!

Ah. Rain-sensor wipers in the BMWs I normally run are spot-on, and I couldn't imagine not having them.

I wonder if Porsche's aren't up to scratch. Or could this be a subjective thing; one person's perception of too much rain on the screen is different to another person's ...

Think that the black/red interior would look great with white. Would not bother with the sport bucket seats as I have heard they are uncomfortable so go for sports plus seats instead.
Possibly Dab radio to future proof it.

I really really really want the sports seats. After having a Cayman r for a while years ago I have absolutely loved them..

Cheers for the positive on the red/black interior.

I had a boxster 718 pdk on long term loan with a complete red interior which was a little too much but I loved the colour. With the red/black you get the deviated stiching and that's why I'm thinking of it rather than pure black.

DAB radio is something I hadn't thought about!

What about Apple connect? Thoughts?

I have DAB and the only difference I've noticed from FM is that with DAB it sometimes cuts out for a few seconds and then comes back again.
No noticeable sound quality improvement, probably due to the other noises in and around the car.

I was worried about no auto wipers too, but haven't noticed their absence one bit. Maybe it's the ability of being able to dictate how often the wipers wipe rather than the car trying to decide and getting it wrong sometimes?

No climate either, but I don't fiddle with the controls any more than I used to with climate.

In order, if I ever buy new, I'd spec climate, maybe auto wipers, probably not DAB.

I would not be without DAB as I am a TMS fan and the only reliable station on which to receive it is the DAB-only 5 Live Sports Extra...I have specced DAB on my 718 Cayman S needless to say....and its cheap enough but no FOC like my boggo white paint.

I believe that other stations are also available only on DAB but this may not be of any concern to you.

Was sat a bar today, noticed a white 981 Cayman. Think non s bt was de badged.

Looked great and had pse.

Sounded glorious, looked amazing.

I'm starting to wobble on going brand new. But from a finance perspective makes sense to go new!
In which case you can ignore this brand new white 981S!

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

I have specced FOC white on my 718S but I must say I was down Pompey a week ago and nearly popped in to discuss a deal on this beauty. I presume Porsche New Car finance would be available on it...very tempting.
There are some nearly new nicely spec'd GTS's for sale..................do it, buy with your heart smile

It's Apple CarPlay and Porsche Connect or Connect Plus. Take a look at this thread as a starter:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

You can only get Connect+ if you specify the Nav module for PCM.

Welcome to the madhouse rotate

Just looking at a couple of specs, can't decide on interior really like the colours on the graphite blue and crayon sport tex seats but just not sure how the seats will feel to sit on, has anybody tried or seen these seats? Feels like going back to a fabric seat is a bit of a step down on Porsche so have thought about the full leather seats in Black/bordeaux red although this is not a recommended combination in the brochure. The graphite blue full leather interior just looks like too much blue.

Can't decide on wheels looking at either Carrera s or Carrera classic, leaning towards the classic as they stand out a bit more.

Not entirely sure if the satnav is value for money or necessary, is this something that is a must when selling on a Cayman? I tried it out and was not wowed by it and I already have a Garmin.

I have been deliberating on the merits of The Crayon Leather + Black Sport-Tex but none of my local Dealers have seen the Crayon or Sport-Tex in Black or Blue yet .
Also ... contrast stitching in Silver !!! ....... very cheap looking .

Does anyone know whether Crayon is beige or crème ( as shown in the 718 Brochure ) or Pale grey ?
If it turns out to be Pale Grey then this would count me out .... Pale grey went out in the 60's and 80's with early 928 / 944 Models .

Very similar to my prospective non s in terms of spec. I'm a little concerned about the amount of blue in the interior, crayon and black would be a bit safer, but I do like the way the graphite interior and exterior match. I didn't consider the nav, easier to use something on my phone for the few times I use it.

I thought that the sportex interior wasn't available on the Boxster but I've just checked the UK configurator and it is. Maybe Porsche have just added it as an option or I was mistaken. I haven't seen a Boxster spec'd with it. I don't think many UK dealerships have the 718 Cayman in yet but I've spied a couple on twitter (London). I like the idea of fabric inserts as it means the seats won't get cold in winter or hot in summer and am surprised to see that it costs more than standard leather! Despite, the black/Bordeaux option not being recommended in the brochure, I actually think it works and it looks smart.

With you on the satnav. I would rarely use it. Maybe if you have an iphone, Connect at £400 would be a compromise. I think it looks a bit naff though with all those coloured icons on the screen.

If I was going for the graphite blue/crayon interior, I think I would get the steering column cover in leather, otherwise it's black plastic but maybe you wouldn't notice it from behind the wheel. I noticed that you've opted for a brushed aluminium gearstick and would have thought it would look a bit odd unless you go for the brushed aluminium trim as well, as the standard trim finish is plastic/metal. The brushed aluminium option would work with the graphite/crayon though as it at least gets you a graphite gear gaiter, otherwise it's black.

DAB coverage in my area is terrible but I wouldn't be without it after spec'ing it on my last three cars. BMW now include DAB (and Satnav) across the range as standard. Take note Porsche.

Climate can be fiddly and although I think I would prefer it and spec it myself, I don't think that I would miss it. Stick the heater in the middle and set the fan to 'on' and forget about it.....it would also save 500 quid!

Auto wipers are yet another option that should be standard and I spec'd the auto dimming mirrors and I think I would also get them on a Porsche.

Porsche really are stingy when it comes to options. Most of these items are standard now on daily run around cars costing sub 10 grand!

Reason I went for the brushed aluminium gearstick was that I thought it would be more tactile/grippy than standard gear stick. Was not particularly meant to match trim as it would be a stand alone feature, but you may be right.

I was bored on nightshift so had yet another play with the configurator and noticed a few more options added to the configurator e.g.:

Front air intake slats painted CKX
Rear side air intake grilles painted CAC
Rear apron painted CNG
Tinted tail lights XXP

You can also now get the climate control panel trimmed in aluminium, carbon etc. or painted.

There might be other new options but those were the ones that stuck out.

  • Sigh. Back to the configurator I go...
