serious question why have people not gone for the M4 Comp pack car over the 718 Cayman ?
in my case because choosing a car is about much more than choosing an engine.

ALso no glowing 718 reviews to talk of, where the M4 comp pack looks like a bit of a weapon.
engine character aside, pretty much every review i've read has been glowing.

and more importantly, my face was glowing when i had a test drive smile

£60K for an M4 Comp

£45K for a nicely specc'd Cayman

you can prob get 15% off an M4 and it needs very little options

as we all know you add the default £10k to a porker in options to get the same spec levels.

what do you own now and did you test drive a M4 Comp pack car ?

I am just interested as I would like a new daily next year and think the M4 with Comp pack is at the top of my list atm.
coming from the older 987.2 car I only see the new line up of Porkers as very soft and a far cry from a sports car, so when looking at a much less hardcore car other manafactures seem to do this thing better.

Having had nine BMWs from 1986 to 2014 I think I'm entitled to the opinion that BMW have lost IT, whatever IT was.

I tried to like any of their offerings in 2014 but they were all bobbly, sanitised, commercial, plasticky, rubbish in my opinion.

Hence the move to Merc (briefly - rubbish too), then Audi (dull), and now to Porsche.

My 981 picks up where my E46 MSport 330ci cab left off. A drivers car.

given your forum name, i'm guessing that i'm coming at this from a very different perspective to you smile

for starters this is my first sports car, and my desire is for the styling, design and build quality above all and everything else is secondary to that. i'm as gutted as the next guy that the sound is gone, but sitting inside the car it wasn't really that different. in the end i decided to not bother with PSE as i don't really want to make a noise i'm not particularly fond of even louder.

i love the classic Porsche silhouette (of the Cayman), and my inexperienced opinion is that the overall impression of the car evokes the original 911 spirit.

i considered a 'standard' M3/M4 but after seeing them in the metal on the roads i decided it wasn't the right car for me. the power and handling of any car in this league is way more than i can exploit, so it definitely doesn't matter to me if the M4 does this or that any better.

i drive an old Golf GTI right now so i'm used to turbo lag smile maybe that's why i don't have a problem with the 'lag' on the 718??

How funny....exactly my experience (I loved my e46 330ci sport coupe in imola red).

I simply find new BMW's terribly boring now. An M4 is another 3/4 series you see every second on every road in the uk....

I've never spent anywhere near £10k on options for any of my Porsches. That's what I like about them.

I come from this angle, Porsche offer great value as you don't pay for options you don't want or need.

I guess you are approaching the M4 with different set of requirements. If I had a 987 Spyder, 987 Cayman R, 981 GT4 and a Fiesta ST as my daily drive, I'd probably chop the Fiesta in for an M4 daily driver.

good memory on my car line up :-)

The ST is a great car though so that's staying (or a car like that is staying maybe the polo GTi next) plus the other half uses it and it's small and we leave it any where + don't care and it's a tip run car and does good mpg. one needs a small Hot hatch in the car line up.
And as you know I hate understeer and the ST never does, it's a fun car to drive and wins EVO small hatch for good reason.

Just not into the Porker thing going forward as I think they are now dull, but like others have said with BMW all new cars seem to be a bit dull :-(. but the M4 don't under steer, is very rapid vs any new Cayman by a BIG margin. with that straight 6 engine ;-)

my choice for a daily will be the M4 comp pack or the new TTRS, I fancy a bit of poke for a year or so and a quite ride, all my cars give me a headache these days lol

I drove the M4 quite a few times before deciding on a CGTS. It is without doubt quicker than a CGTS but it is one soulless motor. Having had a couple of TTs in the past, I should know characterless. The only pleasure in driving the M4 came from the acceleration.

I think the comp pack adds a lot more into the drive than the standard car

And one cannot buy a CGTS any more only a 718 4 pot !

I always keep an eye on your fleet!

So, what will the M4 replace....or is this another addition?!?

I am sure the M4 is very fast, but I just find them rather large old beasts now......thought a M2 would be a better bet....especially for holding it's money?

One's a large, front-engined four-seater.

The other is a small, mid-engined two-seater.

Entirely different beasts.

Lovely colour combo sparky. I may be about to pull the trigger myself (test drive this weekend). Are the discounts that a few on here have mention really available?

Can't really say about discounts (allowance) but I haggled hard for the best trade in on my Cayman. Happy with the deal.

Good news!I bet the excitement is building.

mine is finishing it's build tomorrow and due in the dealer on the 1st July ..I don't know if that's a realistic timescale but sounds similar to what you've been told.
Have you had the info for the built in tracker activation yet?

Great spec sparkyhd. I've gone for red roof and the black/red leather but with gt silver and titanium carrera s wheels.
