Is dual climate essential? What's the standard air con like? Still torn over "connect" options, and not sure how I could need rain-sensing wipers. Help!

I fiddle with my manual air-conditioning about as much as I did with climate in the previous three cars. It's fine.
My non-rain sensing wipers are no issue either.
You get used to both in days.

None of the options are essential. A Porsche isn't essential.

At certain price points you don't expect to be twisting an air con knob.

Every demonstrator I've seen has climate control and professional sales people have to sell these cars on after a few months. That tells me something.

For me both of these things have been standard on cars for a while now; I've had them on the Beemers I've been running for the last ten years at least.

So I know it would annoy me immensely not having them on any car I bought now.

They're both fire and forget items.
Climate Control; Set your temp and forget about it - your car will always be at that temp. I never touch my climate settings throughout the year; auto CC handles it.

And rain sensors are a brilliant invention for me. Starts to rain, hit the auto sensor button, and forget about it. Given the nature of the weather in this country, non-auto wipers never quite meet the demands - intermediate wipe is either too slow or too fast, and normal wipe is also too slow or too fast. Rain sensor wipers have always done the job of adjusting to match. At least BMW's version - not tried on other cars but I'd hope Porsche's would be at least as good.

So speccing both is a total non-brainer for me, even at a ridiculous >800 squids for the asking.

In French but gives an idea of the grey (boring IMHO) and the 19" 5 spokes which I am warming to.

I would get the climate control. They recently gave me a loan car 718 without it while mu 981 was in for a service. I thought the manual system was clunky. As someone said above, the climate is genuine "fire and forget". Recommended.

No rain sensing wipers on my car and I've never missed them.

For me the rain sensors are more about the auto dimming mirrors, tired of being blinded by cars behind me, not so much by the interior mirror (which has the tab) but the exterior ones.

The chagrin of buying a new Porsche! My last new purchase I had to pay for nav, leather and alcantara sports seats, and rear parking sensors. But keyless entry, good dual climate control, mats, electric folding mirrors, limited slip diff, sports steering wheel, good headlamps with washers, and half decent stability control (that can be turned off) all came as standard. First world problem I know! I'll just have to make sure I save up a little more to get everything I really want.

For those still deciding on colours/wheels thought it might be handy to know which OPC has what in case you fancy seeing your desired colour in the flesh (or should that be metal biggrin)

OPC Sheffield
718S in Carmine with black Carrera S alloys
718S in Adgate with Carrera Sport alloys
718 in Racing Yellow with silver Carrera S alloys

I'm hoping somewhere has GT Silver as I'm yet to see a decent picture...

Good thought. OPC Bolton has:

718 Cayman in Racing Yellow with Silver 20" Carrera S wheels (and wildly yellow bits in the interior)
718 Cayman S in Rhodium Silver with Satin Platinum 20" Carrera S wheels

One day I'll find time to go and see them... If anyone knows of a Carrara White metallic in the North I wouldn't mind seeing it in the metal.

Newcastle's showroom 718 is an S model in Miami blue:

Their demo cars are:

718 2.0L Cayman in black, has 20" Carrera Sport wheels (satin platinum), standard passive suspension, manual box.

718 2.5L Cayman S in white (has red and black 2 tone interior, carbon interior trim), 20" Carrera Sport wheels (satin platinum), PASM -10mm (I think), PDK.

Must be a 20" wheel glut somewhere! Have any of the demos got anything smaller?

Correct getting it from Leeds. It's delayed due to me ordering painted intakes. Was originally due to be delivered mid November. Your welcome anytime to have a butchers when I get it.

Right,

So my deposit was paid to my OPC at the very beginning of July. I was told I would get a car this year.

Today they have confirmed I still don't have a build date, but that they "hope to have more news by the end of this month".

Pathetic. So that's 3 months since deposit was paid, and still no build date, despite knowing a number of people in the UK who paid deposits later in July or even August who are getting cars this year.

I've told them I want confirmation of a build slot this week or I want my deposit back.
