Neither fat, balding or grey. How bizarre.

During my 24 hour test drive, I actually really enjoyed it. More than I thought. Coming from the 2.7 with PSE I was concerned about the noise but actually rather enjoyed it, even without PSE. I use the car daily and rightly or wrongly I think the turbo/bags of torque etc will make it a much better car to live with day to day. As great as the 2.7 is it can be tiresome to extract the performance (yes I understand that is a lot of fun when the feeling takes you but I'm not always in the mood).

Yes the F4 does give away 'something' to the F6 but I did kind of enjoy the burble. It wasn't as bad as the press made out IMO. Also, I really enjoyed the turbo lag, I think there's something exciting about waiting, waiting whoosh. It's different yes, and not 'traditional ' sports car but as bad as some people have made out? Far from it.

Graphite Blue is great colour in the metal - there's a 991.2 for sale at my local OPC finished in this shade and it is gorgeous, more graphite (i. e. grey) than blue.

I'm not sure how it can be a better daily driver if you found it had turbo lag? I had my TTS daily driver for 15 months until I could no longer stand the lack of "go" when I needed it. How could you enjoy this?

I found the lag is pretty negligible in the grand scheme of things. My point was that I don't find turbo lag a put off as such and I find the hit of boost adds its own level of excitement.

Agree - but the result is a lack of instant mid range go - which the NA also suffers from. The solution with either engine is to keep the revs up - above 3500 with the turbo, above 4000 with the NA engine.

Some like the way the NA engine picks its skirts up and goes above 4000 - and some clearly like the way a turbo winds up too. Personally not keen on either delay in real response and would like a flat torque curve and no significant lag.

A point to note is that Danm is buying an S - I found too much lag (for me) on the base car - but the S is bigger (so will have more torque unboosted) has a variably geometry turbo which might be expected to spool up faster, and has less boost, so not so boost dependent. So I wouldn't expect lag to be so much of an issue on an S - but haven't driven one to find out.

So after being kindly offered an overnight test drive of the Boxster S, I've bitten the bullet and decided to upgrade my 981 base Cayman to the 718 Cayman S. I have managed to bag my local OPC's only CS they've been allocated for this quarter so should get delivery in Oct/Dec.

Spec I've decided:

Graphite Blue
Sport-Tex leather Black
Model deletion
Park assist (f&r)
PDK
Sport chrono
Sports exhaust in black
Carerra S wheels in satin black
GT steering wheel
Sports Seats Plus
Seat Heating
Nav + Connect Plus

It's my first car as a factory order and as I'm only 26 I'm really bloody chuffed with myself!
Grats, nice spec.

For the model deletion, what is removed? Is it the 'Cayman S' just below the boot spoiler?

Couple of questions before I start contacting dealers to order a Cayman S ...

Is there a pricelist of those items in the brochure, but not available on the normal spec?
I want Sapphire Blue, which is only available in the brochure, but there are no prices there. Would I need to speak to dealer for the price?

On the configurator the max deposit on PCP is 25%. Would a dealer take more than 25%? Am looking to put down 30% to 40%.

Also, for orders made now, with delivery later in the year, what deposit is required now? The full deposit? Or £1,000 downpayment, or what?

Thanks for any answers ...

Hi there - I think when you configure the car at the dealership they have a few more options than on the configurator and I believe Sapphire Blue was in the 'metallic' section.

Also regarding PCP, they have more flexibility than on the configurator. However, I put in a decent chunk into my current car (around 25%) and I'm not getting a great deal of that back on trade in. So for this one I'm coming right down with the deposit and stomaching the slightly higher monthly payments to keep the capital in my account. I have other things to pay for right now (moving house etc) so don't want it tied up. Just something to consider.

As for holding deposit they require £3000 to secure the order on the Boxster and Cayman. This is either returned on delivery or taken off your full deposit.

Hope this helps.

std model designation is (in this example for a CS) "718 Cayman S"

you can either have the whole lot deleted, or just leave "718".

I have a 10 yr old 987s and was looking to upgrade. I tested the 718s and felt my 10 yr old car to be a better overall package. I didn't like the turbo lag in the new car, I tried to put up with the noise but the final straw was when I sat at some lights next to a 10 year old Astra with a big bore exhaust and both cars sounded the same. Overall a much more sterile experience. It is not just about speed. Saved me £60k so thank you Porsche.

50% is the max as that's what I put down on mine.

Thanks for all the helpful replies guys. Appreciated.

Sent a request off to Porsche in Chiswick, but missed the salesman's call as I was in a meeting. Will look to head out there later this week and see what's what. Hopefully seal a deal and put down £3k. smile

ETA: I'm guessing dealers would laugh me outta the showroom if I mention discounts ???

Was mentioned to me. I get the feeling that the 718 is not exactly flying off the forecourt.

I think you could get something tbh, I've had a couple of dealers offer me build slots recently.

Rather than talk discount, talk deposit contribution!

Good luck smile

I managed to get abut £1200 off and an extra driving experience thrown in. I think this was partly because they were rubbish when I was looking at my previous car and ended up buying elsewhere so they really have tried to look after me. The impression I was getting was discount on the base model is pretty achievable but the S not so much due to the limited allocations the OPC have. Worth a shot though.
