I use my 718 S as a daily driver and didn't go for performance options but for practical options so did add climate control (standard is a manual fan), seat heating, DAB and front/rear sensors all of which have proved very useful. I also went partial leather which is fine for the reasons you say. I also added Bose / Sat Nav / 20" wheels which are not essential but I wanted them !

Hope this helps
That does help actually. I will definitely consider heated seats, though I see any electronic options as something that might go wrong in a few years!

Do you have any "full leather regrets"?

This will be my first Porsche so I'm worried that I'll regret my spec. I'll be using it as a daily driver and will likely never track it. PASM didn't seem worthwhile during my test drive, so that rules out PTV as much as I'd like the differential. Similarly, I don't think I'll get value out of Sports Chrono. PSE doesn't appeal to me with the new engine.

I'm looking at around £3.5k of options and I have the budget for up to £6k, but I don't want to spec anything for the sake of it. I plan to keep this car for a LONG time as it's kind of a pre-marriage present to myself haha!

Is there anything glaring that I've missed?

- Base Cayman
- White (not convinced that CWM is worth the extra?)
- PDK
- Black Leather package with partial leather seats (full seems excessive when partial covers most surfaces that are often touched)
- ParkAssist (front and rear)

Thanks in advance for any responses smile
Can't go wrong with base spec and minimal options tbh.

Things that 'should' be standard which aren't are the ones to consider I'd think on a minimal spec.
Climate Control and Auto-rain sensors are two which spring to mind.

I've specced both on my order, crazy that these aren't standard on porkers but are on almost all other marques these days.

No regrets about full leather, no - I don't really notice it at all

Although I went Guards Red outside and black inside I did look at GT silver outside with partial red inside (it's only on the instrument binnacle and seat centres so not too full on) it looked better (to me) than full red inside which is a bit strong

I put my deposit down just before Christmas - I'm third in line for a build slot at this particular OPC apparently they are very slow coming through because of the production move. It wouldn't surprise me if my build slot was in April or May and delivery in July or later, so I've probably got plenty of time to confirm spec & colour; or get bored waiting ...

I'm coming from Lotus, I've had several Elises over the years but now I think it's time to move on. The car is not a daily just weekend fun so driver involvement is key to my spec which looks like this at the moment:

Cayman S
Manual
Black Sport-tex interior with the 2way sports seats plus
Sport Chrono
Carrera S wheels (or maybe Carrera Classic depending on the colour)
PASM
PSE
Bi-xenon with PDLS
ParkAssist F&R
Folding Mirrors
Navigation Module
BOSE
Digital Radio
Smokers Package

There are a few other options I was considering but I was trying to keep to a £10K limit and it sure adds up quickly:

Dual zone climate - OPC Sales guy said that he wouldn't bother as it is a small cabin there isn't much difference in the operation and efficiency and (surprisingly) it doesn't affect resale attractiveness.
Seat heating - I think is important with leather, but with cloth seats not sure.
Dimming mirrors & rain sensor - dimming mirrors are good, rain sensors can be a bit hit and miss, worth £332?
Multi-function Steering wheel - not sure I quite like the simplicity of the standard but the convenience of controls may win out.

The colour is the biggest question at the moment - I think I have narrowed it down to Graphite Blue (with Carrera Classic wheels), Sapphire Blue (with Platinum Carrera S wheels) or Night Blue (with Platinum or Silver Carrera S wheels). I am trying to find a Sapphire in the flesh to go and look at as I've seen the others.

The colour is the biggest struggle for me too but i'm thinking the experience day will get me to a decision when I see them all.

I have gone a bit mad on extras as it doesn't make that much difference to the monthly payments and I don't want any regrets. The options are expensive though , no doubt about that. I would just agree a budget with yourself and then play around with the configurator if you're going finance and see what difference it makes on monthly payments / deposit.

tcs0tm - your spec is pretty similar to mine ... apart from PDK. If you're still considering Carmine, it is a great colour in the flesh ... it's almost Heinz ketchup red:

This is at Guildford OPC if you're close.

@Andy, my GTS is Sapphire, not sure if you're in the North/Yorkshire, but if so welcome to see it.

However, my S had only basic climate and when I changed I had to have full climate control. The former is a real pain in the arse if you use the car frequently.

I would suggest DAB but as many here will tell you it depends on reception in your part of the country. Don't be worried about less options, get what important to you and nothing more, add a grain or 2 of salt to ideas about what's needed for resale.

Have any those who've already taken delivery got a Sports Exhaust?

I really can't decide if its worth ticking the box or not. Aesthetically, I'm going for the twin tailpipes at least as i don't like the look of the standard "block" on the base car, however, I'm just wondering if I may as well go for the PSE?

Does it actually make a noticeable improvement in terms of aural quality over standard or is it just "louder"?

Haven't managed to find a car to hear one in the flesh yet.

I think I have gone off Carmine Red - yes it looks really good however I think there are a couple of metallic colours that would look equally good which did allow me to spend that money elsewhere. I'm still on Carmine Red on the order form but I have the experience day in a couple of weeks and i'm determined that I will make a solid choice on the day when I see them all.

I'm based in Manchester so Guildford not great for me - they have a black and a GT silver in Wilmslow but both were filthy when I took them a test drive so didn't really show them off.

Sapphire blue looks stunning in my view, Graphite looks like a primer but each to their own

Looks like a good spec to me Andy.

Dual-zone climate - this option isn't just dual-zone, it's also set temperature fire-and-forget; ie set your temp to 20 degs and the car will blow hot or cold fast or slow automatically to keep temperature at your setting. Something which should be standard in all cars but isn't on a porker. Without this option you'll have to manually control temp and fan settings. 'Tis a definite option for me.

Auto-rain-sensor is another must-have for me, I find them spot on generally. Is yet another stingy porker non-standard option.

Multi-function steering wheel, I ummed and ahhed about this option - I've gotten used to having controls at my finger tips on my cars, but decided not to opt this on my 718 CS. I like the look of the standard wheel, and controls on the console are pretty good so I don't see a loss really not having them on the wheel.

Which OPC are you going through if I may ask?

ellroy, thanks for the offer ... I'm in Surrey a bit of a trek. I think I probably will go with dual zone - not sure how the prices are going to change over the coming months so that may put a spanner in the works of the fuller options.

ikonic, I've only driven the non-PSE models but there was a customer car being collected when I was test driving and it had PSE and I have to say that it really does add a lot more anger and popping. It does enhance the sound - slightly changes the Subaru sound when revving but it does not make it sound like the flat 6.

tcs0tm, graphite is one of those colours (like Miami blue) that does look better in the flesh and I think is enhanced by certain wheel options:

Tim bo, Porsche is very stingy on the standard spec. but it looks like the 718 gets more than the 981 did as standard ... but you would think in this day and age that DAB would be standard. I'm going through Guildford - they are owned by Porsche UK so have direct factory access, not sure if that helps or not as they have said that their slots for Cayman, Boxsters, 911 and Macans are right down this year. I wonder if this is to do with exchange rates and Porsche not wanting to sell cars at a loss in the UK. We'll see by how much the prices go up over the coming months.

Ok similar to me then ... I'm going through Porsche West London who are also owned by Porsche UK.

They were able to secure a build slot for me as a matter of priority when my previous order was messed up, so at the end of November they managed to secure a build slot in January just 6 or so weeks later, with delivery late Feb. Based on that, and reading about the troubles other folk here are reporting in delays to orders, Porsche-owned dealerships do seem to have a better ability to secure slots or have a larger allocation that they can manipulate.

Thanks for the kind offer but I''m based "up north" unfortunately.

I've had a few listens on YouTube and think I've decided that although it sounds nice, I can't really justify the cost.

The demo model I drove had black sport-tex seats. I was very impressed, much preferable to leather in my opinion (so much so I specified them in my order). They're hard to describe... imagine a man made textured cloth effect (I know that's a terrible description). I think they'll be warmer feeling than leather in the winter, more breathable in the summer and less susceptible to heating in strong sunlight. They were also much less slippy than leather and I suspect harder wearing.

I've sat in the sport-tex seats, I think they are slightly better padded than the equivalent leather seats and to my back more comfortable. I think with the silver deviated stitching you get throughout the interior really lifts the rest of the black. The material is hard to describe it's textured like rip-stop but also soft to the touch. It is going to be my choice.

If you follow Nick Murray on Youtube, he's a Kiwi living in the US and a Porsche fanatic. He's ordered a 911 4S in night blue metallic with the blue/crayon sport tex interior with the Carrera Classic wheels. It looks fantastic from what he showed on the configurator. Not a combo many would go for.
