Stumbled accross this rather useful site so thought I would share, it shows MOT history, tax and more useful the car tax price once you put the plate in, just to make clear it's not my site and I'm not affiliated with it in anyway whatsoever, just thought it would be useful as the dvla main site doesn't show tax prices anymore

Enjoy!

No probs, it's a pain when you find that dream car and you can't work out the tax band !

It's not always correct - I've just renewed the tax for my van at £230 per year, that site says it's only £110 per year.

@LambShank, Regisearch is my site. All the tax prices are correct. In the case of vans, there's no way of knowing the vehicle is a van from the information returned by the DVLA (wheel plan is "2 axle rigid body" which is the same as a car) so the price for a car of the same specification is shown and a message is given to that effect. This is because I would expect 90% of the searches to be for cars.

Looks like I haven't made that obvious enough. The message states "Tax prices shown are for a petrol or diesel private car..."

I state on the About page:

"Tax prices are only shown for private cars, motorcycles and tricycles. This is because there is insufficient information returned by the DVLA server to determine the correct tax for goods vehicles, buses etc (it can be quite complex)."

I could probably put that message on the search result too but it's almost repeating the message that's already shown.

The site has only been up a few months so I will keep an eye on this.

Is it just scraping details from https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ ?

@marting

The vehicle information comes from:

https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

The MOT history comes from:

https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/

(The above is stated on my About page)

None of them show the tax price so I have to parse the returned data to determine the correct tax price, which I can always do for cars, bikes and trikes but not for trucks, buses etc as there is insufficient data returned and it can also be quite complex.

The idea of the site is to show the vehicle information, tax prices and MOT history on one page which you can't do anywhere else. It's to save people making several searches on the Government site and as you might expect I have had positive feedback about that.

Thanks Charles.

I actually missed the bit about it only being for cars... and was well on my way to have a rant at the DVLA that they've charged me too much laugh

Having cross referenced my V5 and tax banding etc, I appear to be paying the correct amount...

Tis a very helpful website.

Great site Charles! smile

Could anyone let me know if they have got a pre-1996 car to work? I tried my old Pug but that looks to have been scrapped and my Nissan is an import which both add complex to the query.

My 1994 mx5 worked (import) but a 2000 RX7 import didn't.

Same car in Ireland?

Even my €200 to tax Fiesta is only £30!

I looked up my old cars...seems like after I sold them, they rapidly deteriorated. Maybe I dodged a bullet, but that sorta makes me sad...

My first car (1990 Mini) only has MOTs starting from 2006. Any way of going back further Charles?
