987 Boxster S Buying Advice
Discussion
Right ok that makes sense, similar to the M3 in the way it just reduces the amount the accelerator moves in order to get going.
Wasn't really fussed about Chrono to be honest but if it included PSE then that would have been a different kettle of fish. I have watched a number of videos on YouTube and I have to say the S sounds quite mute hence my question. Does this translate into real wirld driving or is it lost on the videos?
Miltek do a rather tasty sounding exhaust with lovely black tips which I may well invest in. Don't want any performance gains but like to 'hear' the engine/exhaust.

Si,
I wouldn't worry about chrono or pse, an owner with chrono told me he used the throttle less when he switched chrono on and a pse equipped owner told he he rarely switched it on.
coming from a tvr I'd have liked pse but was a desirable not a must have, my wife did say the boxster sounds quite, suppose compared to a tvr.
the boxster was the best compromise toy I could find, about fast enough, drives well, looks nice and so far is more useable than I was finding the tvr.
find a nice one and I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Thanks Nigel that's really encouraging, a long string of different cars and very mixed for me but keeping coming back to open top 2 seaters. I considered a Cayman but I can't bear a coupe, nothing better on a dry day whether it be warm or cool to get the roof down.
When you were looking did you dabble with idea or test drive a 987 2.7 model??
Out of interest what made you sell the TVR?

Or do what I did...... Get a nice early 3.2S and have one of the many IMS upgrade options fitted - either uprated bearing, or an external lubrication pipe that squirts oil into the bearing. 3.2 doesn't suffer from bore score, so an uprated 3.2 appears to be a good option. Of course, failure rates for uprated bearings are unknown, but they seem to be a good option.
Can anyone recommend somewhere in the North that will carry out the IMS upgrade?I've been looking at Boxsters costing between £9k - £11k, and had settled on a 2.7, but I think I've decided to go with a 2005/6 S and have the IMS fix carried out, for peace of mind if nothing else.
