I have SPP in my 981 CGTS and it's good, although I'm no audiophile. There is a lot of noise in the cat anyway (exhaust, induction, road noise, wind noise if a window is open etc) so I wouldn't be spending a fortune on audio equipment. Put it towards PTV, Nav, PASM etc instead to enhance the driving experience.

I thought as much, generally I get a really bad service from them even on simple items as warranty items. I've got the point now, where I refuse to use them unless I really have to and will use other OPC's.

I had a day with a 718 on 20" wheels with Pzero N1 tyres and thought the ride unacceptable to me (bad roads near Silverstone). My 981 S has PASM and the same tyres (N1 Pzeros) on 19" wheels. My car is clearly much more comfortable with PASM in normal and even more comfortable with PASM in sport on the same roads.

One thought occurs to me, on the 981 at least, the normal pressures for 20" wheels are 33psi but there is a comfort option (slightly speed limited) of 30psi. I know the 781 I drove car was at 33psi (the ride was so jiggly I checked) - but was the car you drove on the comfort setting? My 981 was at 33psi too.
Probably, it wouldn't be a surprise, even with my positive experience if I was going down the 718 route, I'd still be inclined to spec it as I would also be going for 20s. Not something that can be retrofitted and wouldn't want to regret it when driving over one of the many pot hole infested roads all over the country.

Re PASM on the 981, I think a major advantage for you is having 19s with PASM. Its probably why the 718 felt so much worse.

Oh dear, they are literally 2mins drive from me. I haven't dealt with them yet but I'll have to go there in September for dreaded multipoint pre extended warranty check. Are they really that bad?

If you think they are bad try Guildford, who are cretins on many levels.

I have the same - I noticed the guy at the OPC used it in the same way and it worked fine, but never worked for me (and I've tried IE, Safari and Chrome)

I have SPP in my 981 Cayman and it's fine, especially from USB.

Not up to my Merc E Class Harmon Kardon standards, but absolutely fine for the Cayman.

I've had a number of problems with them as a few examples, it's taken them 4 attempts to correct my sports chrono and 2 attempts (wrong one was ordered) to replace my windscreen and general poor communications. I guess clearly I am not a valued customer I have often wondered if things would be different if I spent any more money with them or if I need to spend more to get better service.

As always there are others, including me, who have enjoyed excellent service, at all levels, from Colchester OPC.

I have been dealing with them for a considerable number of years without complaint. Yes there has been the odd minor issue but no organisation is perfect all of the time.

Yes I think i will give the Bose a miss and reallocate the £800 elsewhere.

That is good (and thanks for your email Neil!), I am not in a position to commit just yet, but a bit of surfing and some calls made to me and I have a £1400 discount without trying, through Coast to Coast Cars. The OPC is 250 miles away but not bad for starters and without even asking. I just know my local OPC will not entertain a discussion on discounts, I am driving their Boxster on saturday!

Is this the same as the system that was in the 981?

BOSE® Surround Sound System with 10 loudspeakers including centre speaker and an active subwoofer integrated into the vehicle body. Fully active sound system with a total output of 505 watts. BOSE® Centerpoint® 2 and SurroundStage® technologies enable the system to play stereo recordings in a virtual surround mode. AudioPilot® Noise Compensation Technology ensures that the acoustic pattern is constant and well balanced in all driving conditions.

No, it has changed as power output is up:

BOSE® Surround Sound System
The optional BOSE® Surround Sound System really strikes a chord.
It comprises eight amplifier channels with a total output of 445 watts. Its 10 loudspeakers, including an active subwoofer integrated into the vehicle bodyshell behind the dashboard, deliver a balanced acoustic pattern.
In combination with the optional CDR Plus audio system or optional PCM, the BOSE® Surround Sound System enables audio playback of DVDs and is thus able to make full use of the impressive sound spectrum of 5.1 digital recordings. Of course, you can still play other audio sources, such as CDs and MP3s, in stereo or, at the push of a button, in one of the virtual surround modes generated by BOSE® Centerpoint® 2.
The BOSE®-patented AudioPilot® noise compensation technology uses a microphone to continuously measure the ambient noise inside the vehicle and adapts music playback instantly and automatically so that a consistent sound is maintained – whatever the driving conditions.
The result is a balanced, faithfully reproduced sound and a captivating 360° acoustic experience.

My experience of all dealers across different brands has always been very mixed - even mixed within a dealership.

I've had two contacts with OPCs (not bought a Porsche yet but will buy the 718 Cayman GTS) - Guildford and East London. East London has started inviting me to events and so on, but never ever return a call or respond to an e-mail - so I can get in cars but only at group events. They just never call me back when I ring to ask about a 718.

On the other hand, there's a guy called Edward at the Guildford branch who has been brilliant (even if the rest of the staff there never seem to know what's going on).

It just always surprises me when you effectively walk in and say "hi, I'm looking to spend £70k" and they can't even be bothered to reply. I know they have customers spending much more than that, but £70k is not a small amount of money in anyone's book!
