I had similar experiences with Guildford. In 1987 I bought a 944S from them and said "never again". It took until 2004 until I went to them to buy a 996 Turbo and said "never again". Sad to see that they still haven't improved - but I had the same feeling that unless you were spending vast amounts of money (and the cars I bought weren't cheap!) they just weren't interested. I have been using Mid Sussex since 2004 and they have been brilliant.

No, it has changed as power output is up:

BOSE® Surround Sound System
The optional BOSE® Surround Sound System really strikes a chord.
It comprises eight amplifier channels with a total output of 445 watts. Its 10 loudspeakers, including an active subwoofer integrated into the vehicle bodyshell behind the dashboard, deliver a balanced acoustic pattern.
In combination with the optional CDR Plus audio system or optional PCM, the BOSE® Surround Sound System enables audio playback of DVDs and is thus able to make full use of the impressive sound spectrum of 5.1 digital recordings. Of course, you can still play other audio sources, such as CDs and MP3s, in stereo or, at the push of a button, in one of the virtual surround modes generated by BOSE® Centerpoint® 2.
The BOSE®-patented AudioPilot® noise compensation technology uses a microphone to continuously measure the ambient noise inside the vehicle and adapts music playback instantly and automatically so that a consistent sound is maintained – whatever the driving conditions.
The result is a balanced, faithfully reproduced sound and a captivating 360° acoustic experience.
Let's hope those extra 60 watts have been to music school!

My wife and I have bought 2 cayennes, a 997, a 981 s cayman, a 991 Gts, and every time I have given guildford an opportunity so sell as they are nearest but they have not been quick enough or made enough effort. On the last cayenne SD they said x is he very best they could do. Portsmouth were significantly better deal. We bought. Guildford chap rings. I tell him deal. "Oh we could have bettered that". tt.

As others have said. Experiemces within a dealership are varied. We had good with reading, silverstone, mid Sussex, Portsmouth and Bournemouth.

I agree as dealers vary from person to person. However, I have always had expectional service from Bournemouth.

Most unlikely so I am not opting for the BOSE and I am also going for the standard xenons (without PDSL) so now I have £1400 to splash on some other options I don't need or pocket.

Agree on standard xenons. I have gone for bose although think a close call. I am paying 1600 for paint ffs so I guess it's a moot point!

On the 718 models, if you opt for standard lights (xenons), do you still get the four point daytime running lights like the link below, or do you need to upgrade to LEDs all round for that? I think daytime running lights really give a car presence, to would be tempted to upgrade if that's required...

Take a look at the standard features for your chosen model. For the Cayman S the Confounderator states:

Lighting and visibility
Bi-Xenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running light
Separate auxiliary lights in the front end with LED indicators and position lights

Yup seen that, but it doesn't say whether it's the four point LEDs or some other configuration?

I dont think you do, i.e. think you have to spec the LEDs to get the cool 4 point DRLs

frown

Well thats how it looks on the confounderator - its only when you spec the LEDs do you get the 4 point lights

Its crazy, it wouldnt be so bad if you didnt need to pay up for everything else, auto dimming mirrors, climate etc

Need to spend about 10k on options minimum imo

You don't get the 4point front lights as standard . As with many items on a Porsche ,its an extra.

I drove the 718 Boxster today, in anticipation of seeing the 718 Cayman when it arrives in October. I have to say I was underwhelmed by the whole experience. I would be a PDK customer, the OPC know this, so I am sent out on a 10 minute escorted test drive in a 718 standard Boxster manual. From arrival to departure it was 30 minutes. The dealership was having an 'experience event' today so lots of customers through the door to test drive, I was not told about this when I booked the test drive two weeks ago. I just felt that I was just pushed through to test drive and on my way, didn't even have time to finish my coffee before the salesman led my to the door!

The Boxster was ok, but i didn't feel i had sufficient time to really enjoy the drive, and it was MANUAL! Their other Boxster S demo is PDK, but I wasn't down to drive that. I feel disappointed and very underwhelmed by the whole experience, on return to the dealership it seemed to be ...... place an order and give us £3000 deposit or goodbye and thanks, even though I had explicitly told the salesman that I would not commit until I have seen and driven a 718 Cayman.

So, even if I decide i want a Cayman, it ain't through that OPC!

There happened to be a newly opened Jaguar dealer next door, so I went and had a look at an F Type 3Ltr Supercharged Coupe - now there is a possible alternative to a Cayman!

Most Bose stuff sounds terrible. A company built on small speaker gimmicks which values convenience over SQ.

That's a real shame. Quick check on the OPC website will give Dealer Principle email. Quick email summarising disappointing experience should see a decent test of a manual car I would have thought.

I really am surprised at some of the comments re test drives / opc's and Guildford ....

I have a Cayman on order from Guildford and they have been nothing but helpful.

Prior to ordering I booked a test drive in a 718 Boxster - when I arrived both the basic and S demos had been reserved for me - and not a short test drive either ....... I could take each car for an hour so I could get a good feel for them.

That's service .

Glad to hear it; hope they have upped their game, they have been nothing but useless to me, and I know a number of other people who had issues with new cars/orders.
