Just a quick update.

Did the same format PCGB evening session last month at Brands, 102 static.

Took a gamble and no problems at all! Only difference being dry and not to windy.

Only trouble now is I'm about to get a GT4 and I believe they are louder even with PSE off?

I did a gold track day on the GP a couple of weeks back. It was 102db static.

Perhaps not...

I drove a GT4 last night, back to back with my GTS.

The GT4 was quite a lot quieter on the exhaust front. Compaired on/off and results were very noticeable.
Way more lift off crackle/pops in the GTS too!

I was really surprised.

Having been involved in motorsport and running a Race car hire company for past 15yrs. I too have been caught out by Brands recent change to noise limits. Most recently on a 105db day in our Caterham that runs 100db static, it easily passes 100 static at castle combe, bedford etc. It passed static at brands (with 101db) but after a few sessions got black flagged.
Long discussions with noise tester, it emerged that they have dropped their drive by by 3db. but left static the same.

Also if you check the noise limits on different days you will find 105db static and 92 drive by. 102 static ......92 drive by. 101 static... 92 drive by..

My point at the time was the day should not have been sold as a 105 if drive by is the same as on a 101 day. We all know the problems circuits are having with noise. But they need to advertise / sell their days correctly.

I've found similar, but not quite the same. My GTS was fruity and often quite loud and crackly with more of a bass-y tone from inside the car, outside however it was loud but not that obnoxious... However, my GT4 is bonkers loud pretty much all the time, and drive by, certainly sounds louder than the GTS ever did. Maybe it is because it is a higher pitched note? I'm not confident the GT4 would pass sound checks at circuits as easily as the GTS did with PSE off!

Agree

Now I've had the chance to really push the GT4. At full chat it's bloomin loud! But a lot less pops etc.

I'm in love.

As luck would have it my first track day in it is at Blyton Park and they are not quite as draconian so I can gauge the damage!

But why do people live near a race track and complain about noise(im assuming its residents pushing for this)?
This! The circuit was built in 1950 so anyone who moved there after that date should ps off.
