Very tedious indeed, even by your standards cmoose. Just let people do what they want without judging them, however non-enthusiast you think they are.

The point you fail to understand is that this thread is about comparing 3 cars and as always you drag it into a tedious debate about something completely different.

But you have to have the last word so I will leave this thread to you. Tata.

The Cayman S won the comparison, not surprisingly. It won "by a smaller margin than expected" because of its brilliant chassis and in spite of, not because of the lousy engine.

Having taken delivery of the base 718 on 1st of July and clocked up nearly 800miles, in my opinion its anything but a lousy engine. I don't know if you've driven both the base and S.Maybe you could let me know dreamcar.

Given the timelines you quoted earlier in the thread, I'd wager you hadn't driven the 718 prior to deeming it superior to the Jag and putting a deposit down. So I'm not sure what's worse: having an opinion based on the available facts or buying a car with a cr4p engine you'd never tried and then vehemently defending it online to people who might feel differently.

And before you ask again, I've driven both cars extensively, in fact more than the 800 miles you've clocked, and my dream car is the 991 GT3 currently parked up in the garage.

You are correct. You would win the wager. At the time I visited Jaguar I also visited Porsche and drove 981 Boxsters and confirmed that they are great cars. Mind I already know a bit about Boxsters as I recently sold a 986 which I had owned from new since 2002. The 981 had the edge on the Jag. Maybe I'm bias after 14yrs. of pleasure with the 986. Knowing that the 718 was being launched in the Spring, I had every confidence that it would be a step forward and I was right. But what do I know I don't have a GT3 in the garage. PS maybe you could direct me to the available facts re crap engine.

My words but sums up what this and virtually every other road test has said about 718. Great car, many worthwhile improvements over 981 - tarnished by that engine. From my own experience of owning a BGTS and having driven both 718 Boxsters, I'd say ruined for anyone that believes that the engine is the heart and soul of a sports car. No beetle sounding mill for me thank you. Can't recall which road tester described it as "that rattly thing out back".

I'm just using a 718S courtesy Boxster while my 981 CS is in for work.

The cars seem night & day different to me? 718 is (seems to be at least?) significantly faster on dual carriageway stuff and far punchier, firing out of slow speed corners. Turbo lag not as bad as expected (but apparent) - I could just about live with that? Overall, the car seems 'tighter' and more composed chassis wise - be interesting when I get mine back tonight?

Styling wise I don't have any major comments although the MF steering wheel with that crappy 'manettino' thing is very low rent and something akin to an Atari product?

But then there is that engine character, or lack of? Burbling along at 30/40 it is not too bad in a Scooby kind of way, but for me, changing down the box is the most disappointing - sounds as though someone is mechanically crushing cardboard boxes back there!!

Maybe being on my 3rd NA F6 Porsche engine is clouding my view and a total newcomer to the brand, wouldn't give it a second thought, but it is enough for me to know, I don't want one and won't be buying one. May as well go GTI/RS3 hatchback?

You are missing the point I think.

Just because something is under warranty doesn't mean it won't break. In this instance, being the first owner is peace of mind knowing how the car was treated, not that it will be free to repair if something goes wrong.

What does "shiny, shiny, new, new" even mean?

I really don't understand why you have started this new vs used debate in a thread comparing 3 new cars? You sound like you are trying to convince yourself of your arguments rather than the rest of us...

Out of interest, and to test a theory, what engines did your previous cars have?
Were they maximum 4 cylinders?
Were any turbo petrol?
Many thanks.

You are wasting your time. He is like a religious nut. Has his opinion and can't accept any other. Has to make every conversation about his topic regardess of the conversation at hand.

Don't argue with morons they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

"C" Moose. We know you don't like the 718. We know you don't like the idea of buying new. We know you like your (slightly awkward looking) gen1 Cayman.

And you calling everyone idiots isnt being insulting?

You have made yourself look an idiot on this thread as pointed out by others. It was just about a comparison between 3 cars.

But I am out now. Have a nice day Mr keyboard warrior.

The wide range of opinions on this thread suggests that even the Porsche enthusiasts are not sure this time.

The Cayman has its handling as a crutch to lean on this time, from what I have read the M2 has very sweet steering.

Edo/Cmoose - pls cease, shake hands.

As an every day proposition I think the m2 would be good. Jag is out for all the reliability issues jlr just don't seem to be able to sort.

Nobody is saying anything is going to disintegrate. Again, you are missing the point.

I see you drive an older Cayman (which given your posts should have been really fking obvious) and you prefer it. Good, there's nothing wrong with that in the same way there's nothing wrong people with preferring the 981. But there's no need to throw your toys out of the pram because a new model came out and some people want to buy it. It makes you sound bitter.
