It's a shame Porsche have gone in this direction...but it really isn't hard....if you don't like the 718, keep your/buy a 981/987/986's.

I had a drive in the 2.0 4 pot T and was surprised how much I enjoyed it. But I am not desperate to p-ex my 981 for it. And I would never jump into a Jag or M2!!

Not sure I get that impression, indeed, driving home in the 981 last night, I noticed that the front wing creases were noticeably less angular/pronounced than the ones in the 718? Still, both are not as nice as the view over the bonnet of my old 7.1 GT3 weeping

Yes, I thought that too when driving the 718.

I don't really get the Jag. The base model with a set of 19 inch wheels is 53k. Having had a 370Z I find myself thinking of it as an upmarket version of the Zed.

Look at the side profiles and they are very similar. Get over the lack of exhaust noise in the 370 plus the badge and they offer much the same.

The journo's always describe the 370 as a heavy car, but it's over 30kg lighter than the un optioned Jag. 53k v 38k (for the Nismo) is also a big price differential, considering it's half a second slower 0-60 than the 370. I know what I'd prefer if it was someone else money!

Tin hat ready for anti 370z posts!!!

You'll be ok. if you buy a 981 in 10 years time, it will be the same age as your 987CS is now.

You have plenty of time to make a decision! Relax.... smile

Having taken delivery of the base 718 on 1st of July and clocked up nearly 800miles, in my opinion its anything but a lousy engine. I don't know if you've driven both the base and S.Maybe you could let me know dreamcar.
I drove both. The "base" 718 is the better engine of the two and the one I'd have. But comparing either with the charismatic flat six in my BGTS I have to say both are a major retrograde step. Maybe, as an engineer, the engine sound quality is more important to me than it might be to others, but the thrill I get from the sound is simply not there with the new four cylinder cars. Such a shame as in most other areas 718 is a significant step forward, although I prefer the flush central dash vents and sport chrono rather than proud vents and return of the sport chrono "wart" from the 987 / 997. I've not driven Jaguar F Type but apart from it's six cylinder engine I would prefer the Porsche. Not a fan of BMW's 1 and 2 series again apart from the engine. It's certainly not a sports car!

I don't blame Porsche for not building cars around the (subjective) preferences of buyers of 10 year old Porsches.

I suspect that Porsche don't listen to many owners of new or 10 year cars!!

Considering the relatively low number of posters on this forum and of those who are prepared to buy a new car, it probably wouldn't even register as a consideration for them

When GT versions are over subscribed to the degree that they are, the brand just seems to get stronger and stronger. Even the sub standard engines that they fobbed us off with (I had a 997) in the previous generations seemed to have had little effect on sales!

Would it be correct to say "from NASP to Turbo engines" reminding me from "Air cooling" to "Water cooling" transition biggrin

That did not make 996 bad car but surely made 993 something more special, imho. 😎

Yes. you could be right. I didn't pretend....but I may have got the wrong end of the stick!

My only defence is, your replies can come across as a little....well....snotty .....(e.g. the term shiny shiny new new).......so when responding during the course of a working day, my responses can come across as a little 'trash'.

Anyway. End of the day chap, Porsche ain't making cheap NA 6's anymore...... we really just have to move on!
