It wouldn't be the first time I have re-coded a PCM which has lost its settings.....

Well bizarrely this morning I turned the ignition and the radio sound burst into life and I now have working the CD player, Nav, Maps , cd changer and obviously Amp all working . The telephone is still not available ! So it rather puts paid to one fails all fail argument!
Every so often the sound does go off so I am thinking its a wiring thing maybe connected to the telephone under the seat?!

Depends what the failure is doesn't it. If the phone module is powered up but not functioning correctly, the MOST fibre optic signal from the other modules may still be passing through it, hence your other modules on the ring are still able to communicate with eachother and work. If one module completely fails or the MOST signal is stopped at any point on the ring, nothing on the ring will work as it is a loop with no resilience built in. Trust me I have taken a few apart. Good luck getting it sorted.
