Thanks lads, I will go drive the manual.
The clutch cant be any heavier than the TVR Cheimera that I had with T5 gearbox.

Cheers

Gadgit.

I don't think they will drop at all, just the usual age and mileage price reflection.
Isn't that what depreciation is?
The OP was referring to a drop because of a new model release not standard depreciation.
Ah! I get it now. Thanks for clarifying.

As you say Gadgit, coming from a Chimp you'll be delighted with the clutch weighting. I learnt to drive on a MK 2 Golf, have still got my TVR S and Chimp 500 and feel my 981 BGTS clutch weighting is just fine. It doesn't register as particularly heavy or light.....just right. It's all about what you're used to. Enjoy!

Quite. The drivel that's spouted about heavy clutch in these cars is absolute nonsense.

No, it's heavier than any car I've had. Not had a TVR.

Was watching the market for decent spec 981S models and the later ones actually increased in price when the 781 came out, as much as £10k ! The GTS model definitely did.

Obviously Porsche making the most of buyers who wanted the last of the 6 cylinder cars.

How long that inflated price will hold I don't know, but I didn't feel comfortable paying a premium at the time for something that might correct itself on top of normal depreciation.

Great cars though.

Eeeeer thanks Flyferrari....
Funny thing is we have been well matched with cars apparently, looking at your profile.
I presume you haven't still got them all.....
Part of my past is TVR S1, TVR chimp, Aston DB7 i6 which I have had for 6 years and feel I should move on to a more modern car hence the Cayman, 2014 in manual of course? The modern Cayman is the only car I've got in which feels nice.
I have considered a Jag F type, but they are remaining high in price, and don't think its as nice to be in as Porsche.
I hate to say it but as previously said 2013 onwards has been a massive improvement in all areas. The previous model gen2 is still a great car though.

Gadgit.

Hi Gadgit, I tend to keep all my cars unless they're useless. I just checked my profile and it is correct.....I still have all those. No kids thoughbiggrin!

The only car I've sold in recent times was my F355 spider when I bought the Aston. Sold it for £37K in 2010......I don't feel stupid at all now....much!

You'll love the 981. Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

Yes, know what you mean, Runnymede Aston rang me up a couple of years ago offering me a ferrari 348, mint, 25k miles. Absolute peach!
Exchange price £10K...... Although not the best Ferrari, it would have been the best investment.
My only problem is will I miss the Aston if it goes??

The dealer asking price for cars like my 2014 981S are about the same as I paid (a dealer) for mine nearly 2 years ago, so there has been little or no depreciation (at dealer prices) in that time. And as you say GTS seem to be even more pricey. Difficult to say if it will last.

Porsche Approved Used shows a 2014 Boxster S with just 7,000 miles selling for £45,000 - It's well loaded with leather and other extras too.

Really? Well, I jump into all sorts, but don't notice anything. I cover 25K in mine too...but I've never understood the whole 'I use my car every day so I need an auto' comment.

...you've never been stuck in trickling traffic on the M6 for 2 hours then?

Driving to Norfolk a few weeks ago in my wife's A3 manual, the tiresome clutch in/out in queuing traffic reminded me how much I like the PDK. And that has a lighter clutch.

Ha ha....dear fellow....I can assure you I am regularly sitting on the M25 in stop start traffic....it's good exercise!! I hope you enjoyed Norfolk - I regularly stay in North Norfolk around the Blakeney area. Some great roads and amazing places to eat up there - if your left leg isn't too tired.

That is a little cheaper than my Cayman was - but it's a manual. Cheapest approved Cayman S I can find with less than 10k miles (like mine now) is 48k, which is only slightly less than I paid nearly 2 years ago. There is one at 44k with only 11k miles - but that is a manual with as basic a spec as I have ever seen - and when I was looking for mine there was an manual S for 40k with a similarly basic spec, so there's little doubt that secondhand prices have gone up.

I moved from a 987.1 manual S to a 987.2 S with PDK and sports steering wheel. At first I was not convinced but now I have been out there and played a bit I can tell you that I needn't have worried. The PDK gearbox is just amazing!! I had a red letter day 'supercar experience' last week. Rarri 430, Lambo Gallardo, Audi R8 and Nissan GTR. Apart from the GTR, the flappy paddle gear changes were clunky and caused the cars to lurch. Perhaps this was because it was all at pretty low speeds (less than 70 for the most part) but it showed me just how amazing the Cayman PDK really is. The last test before I tick the '100% keep' box will be the mountain roads,to be driven next month. I imagine that I shall need to use the stick rather than the paddles to change up and down as the paddles are fixed to the steering wheel and once the wheel is turned through the 90+ degrees needed to turn most corners, the positions of the up and down paddles are lost. I shall just use the stick forward and back, much like I would have a manual version.

If you are worried about going from manual to PDK, dont. The PDK it seems, is better than most cars could offer; even supercars!

I have the standard wheel - multi function and heated. For those that dont know this has no paddles but shifter type buttons of sorts. Hard to explain so look at some pics. There is one on each side and both do up and down. So to go up a gear you push forward and to go down you pull back - on either side.

The Gallardo and early R8 flappy paddle boxes weren't dual clutch. Ferrari weren't where they are now with the box on the F430.... Hence what you experienced on your Red Letter day.
The 2012 facelifted R8 received the full 7 speed DSG which the Gallardo never received.
The PDK is an amazing bit of kit though, it's the first flappy paddled box I've had and I love it. I don't think it's better than a manual, just the way it works it offers other options.

Hey! Stay away from Norfolk. all of you. We don't like 'incomers' clogging up our roads. Seeew thaarr!

Clutch too heavy for me in the CGTS, really wanted a manual but just couldn't have lived with it. I do have a damaged ankle though, but it coped with the usual Audi / VW cars ok. So I plumped for PDK and I never drive it in anything other than sport and manual using the paddles. Or maybe sport plus just for a grin now and again. The binoculars get turned off most of the time though, don't want to wake my fellow norfk people from their torpor
